Few games have the same feeling of adventure as this classic gem
wick ones? can i have a titles plz?
Yup. 6/7/8 all had incredible feelz.
Chrono Trigger!
@@rafachrzaszcz6997 A day ago? hello friend.
@@BlueRabbitification hello!
The fact that the dwarf spends like 95% of this run dead is hilarious
MM7 terrified me as a kid when my party was poisoned tired hungry in a deep dark cave, or trying to get to a new town but having a field of gogs shooting fireballs at me.
Jared Ong Those were the days...
same. omg, I used to watch my grandparents play, and when they got a bad genie or to the blaster guy and he did his special attack... I thought I was going to see those skulls in my nightmares.
My brother had nightmares because of the zombies in the barrows. He still hates zombies to this day because of them.
My experience can probably be abridged as follows:
Emerald Isle
"Ah, this isn't so hard. Let's go see that Dragon -
OH GOD THAT DRAGON JUST KILLED MY CLERIC IN ONE HIT"
Avlee
"Okay, better go do that Druid promotion quest -
OH GOD THE ANCIENT WYVERNS KILLED MY CLERIC IN ONE HIT"
Thunderfist Mountain
"Huh, seems the Ancient Wyverns were biggest threat so far. Even those Medusae were easy."
(Cleric immediately slain by Minotaur Lord... in one hit)
Land of Giants
"Well, my Cleric has been through a lot. But we finally made it - lets go to Colony Zod!"
(Meteor Rain immediately kills entire party)
Lessons learned?
1) Have multiple Clerics
2) Meteor Rain hurts
That time my party went down into one of the barrows and found itself stuck in a maze of identical rooms filled with undead... that was traumatizing
Man such a great game. For some reason RPG's today cannot come close to matching greatness like this.
best rpg game ever .. still 2016 no one make better rpg ... god bless Jon Van Caneghem !!!
man...totally agree with Ya!!
yeah lol
... and Tim Lang. alot of the level concept and design that made MM7 what it was, should most probably be attributed to Tim Lang instead of JVC.
Holy fuck, that Land of The Giants thing was absolutely fucking cool. My god I am still shocked by that shit. That's just, damn.
Might and Magic always had a ton of interesting shit in it.
The most fascinating thing about this speedrun is the way he avoided fat arse behemoths in the tunnels - without reloads, mistakes and stopping to think for a second.
I recall doing same but it took like hour to pass that damn tunnel invisible...
I know this is a year later, but I believe a segmented speedrun is the sum of the best times of each save. He could have spent hours getting all the movement right, and what we see here is just the best.
When I was doing it on my actual run, I was so pissed off at invisibility that I decided to just fight the behemoths.
I lived in these games. And now I can't. I lost something that used to allow me to immerse in virtual worlds completely.
I know what you mean. And someday someone will have to pay for that crime to humanity.
Maybe you expect too much when you go back to them?
The graphics don't age well. We can't look back the past with the same eyes.
@@altikirkbes They honestly look fine to me. You get used to dated graphics in about 10 minutes.
Damn this comment hit hard
A true masterpiece. The music is outstanding too. Absolutely the best.
Every time I rewatch your speedrun, I'm blown away by how you almost effortlessly navigate the path from Barrow Downs to Eeofol at low levels. No matter how many MMVII glitched speedruns I've seen, yours is the best. Thank you.
is it the nostalgia or something else that makes me play this game's music when i'm about to fall asleep ? it soothes me beyond anything and i sleep like a baby.
I think this is the best part of all of M&M series.
6 has the better world by far, but 7 beats it slightly with its storyline (the twist is fucking amazing), and by a mile with its mechanics. It's got the ugliest textures of the bunch, though. 8 has to be the prettiest game out of the three, the mechanics aren't that bad either, but the plot is lackluster.
I prefer mm6 visually and especially the music. Other than that, mm7 has it beat. Haven't played mm8 yet, haven't heard many good things about it.
MM6 is too exagerrated with the huge rooms with thousands of enemies and too much corridors. The locations like Castle Alamos or that castle in Kriegspire with flying eyes... God it's really frustrating.
For me.
MM6 for arts, soundtrack sound effect and bigger world/dungeon.
MM7 for balanced gameplay. (I love the instance death resistance) better potions, better autonotes, and hand to hand combat.
I'm about to play MM8.
@@Teheleri still better than 9 tho.
All without using Wizard Eye or Torch Light once...
Ikr. I did four monks run once. Eofol tunnel was a nightmare to play because I can't even see enemies.
Know that feel bro
Well, you have just saved me three weeks of time installing and completing this game once again.
I've never played this game but here's a few things I've learned

Hi, I'm 'salt', a guy who dare to make a first speedrun of Might and Magic 7! :) In 2020, we've got a MM678: Merged mod, and I'm streaming walkthrough of this mod now on my channel (Russian language). And thinking of speedrunning that - there's so many challenges! ;-) I strongly recommend you to try this mod if you haven't yet!
best MM the music is also great and love that the settings is from HoMaM III, meeting lot of the units from the game here too, love these connected game universes
Wow. My wife would argue that practice such a feat would be a massive waste of time.... but not me. I salute you. Well done.
I'll never play M&M this way, but I love that there are people who do and make videos of it.
*still modding this precious brilliant*
very good music. I must add that watching this is inspiring me with the First Person RPG I'm working on.

I got my copy (and the remaining games in the series) for 20$ total or something like that
dunno how many times ive completed this game but still want to play it again and again
Seeing you spend over 5% of your time on character creation and Emerald Isle, it's nice to know some things don't change between a speedrun and casual play. ;)
Shame the company folded like it did. Would have been nice to see more in this kind of setting.
I knew that this game in some ways was broken and how easily it was to complete certain quests through certain meanings but this speedrun just took what was already broke and completely shattered it. Wow!
Congratulations (though as a fan of Might and Magic games, I don't appreciate or enjoy playing the game like this). Anyway here is my question: I don't get the trick with the scrolls and potions. When you save and load, how do you know that a certain scroll (E.g. Lloyd's Beacon, Fly etc) or a potion will be available in the shop? Is that a glitch?
It's called "save scumming" - reloading until those items appear as randomly generated products to buy in the shop.
@@gammadragon2 I remember coming across this by accident as a kid 20-25 or so years ago, when I noticed the dragon's corpse didn't disappear when I looted it and having randomly saved just before doing so.
Never did connect the dots to try to do it with shops and the walking skill/spell/etc "mercenaries", though! But boy, did I have some swanky equipment!
Still to this day one of the best RPGs I've ever played.
Very impressive run, rerolling for 2xLloyd's must have been annoying. Of course the well glitch breaks the game in half but the run was very well done regardless.
what is the well glitch? i was stunned when that part happened
@@Rooftopaccessorizer I assume they mean the wishing well glitch, where you right click on a character portrait and keep clicking the well in order to keep getting money and skill points from it - as much/many as you want.
I just thought that it must have been awkward traveling from Erathia to Bracada etc. with a dead body of a dwarf thief, just to get him resurrected later.
Dragging a corpse through the desert and plains for days must've been incredibly annoying for the other three, haha.
excellent run. I finished mm6, mm7 and mm8 in one day and i was feeling proud of that until recently. Then i saw these speedruns and now i feel a bit incompetent (and old). nevertheless, this brings back good old memories and thanks for that.
Any moment, idea or innovation from MM6-7 makes MMX look like a harsh, indie game for the masses.
Every time i do this well trick it takes all my gold. Like 5k every time and i just end up using all my gold. Am i doing something wrong? Someone please tell me SOLVED - Realized this was fixed in the Greyface Patch as its intended to take 5k Gold every time :(
I need another help, I keep dying doing that wishing well EXP/Gold glitch at 11:44. Can you please teach me?
Hold the right mouse button and then press and hold space. The same character will keep using the well over and over, even after they have died.
Three skipping, scratched goblins and one very lucky dwarf gain a million skill points in days with this one weird trick
I never played with the music because i was afraid of it XD
Old comment I know but it always takes me for ever to get off the starting island because of my arachnophopia because in 6 I got jumpscared out of my mind and I already had arachnophobia and that just made it worse xD
@gammadragon I have a question, when I use the wishing well it always drains 5k gold from my party, why doesn't that happen to you?
I think one of the fan patches (greyface?) might have fixed the bug. Also, if you have less than $5k the well will just eat your money in vanilla MM7.
@@gammadragon2 thanks dude
watching this makes me want to start speedrunning this game
Of all the games I love, MMVII might well be the most rubbish. Critically panned at the time and rightly so, but with a leveling up system so good it carries the remaining trash.
This speedrun is excellent. My one question - you didn't seem to be taking falling damage throughout yet I didn't notice feather fall in action. What's the technique? I died many times in a casual run from using staircases too quickly.
@@kjaamor2057 I loved this game. Outdoors, I usually have the Fly spell active to avoid fall damage, just fly up or down slightly to reset the fall height. Indoors, the party never takes fall damage.
@@gammadragon2 Thanks for the swift reply! I did not know that about indoors! What a cool lesson to learn!
How to enable hardware acceleration with a modern graphics card? In my setup app all the options are grayed out and I'm forced to play software accelerated :(
Are you using the Greyface patch? That would be a good place to start.
Of course I am, can't play without it! Still, hardware acceleration is disabled. Maybe I should reinstall the game from scratch.
How do you do that at the well? It keeps going even after erradicated.
It's an exploit. Hold the right mouse button, then hold space.
@@gammadragon2 Thanks a million times!!
Overpowered mastermind alien race gets shit on by a party of 3 black belt kung-fu masters with blasters. Man, i love this game.
You complete the vampire quest, but you didn't really slay Queen in Tatalia, did you? How then?
The music just makes my belly shimmer instantly!
How come no one uses that patch that lets you look around with the mouse? Is it worse for speedrunning?
Speedrunning is generally done with only official game patches (no mods)
@@gammadragon2 Ohhh, right! An exception is made for grayface, then? I see some people have that in their speedrun description. I forgot if you can even run the game without it these days, haven't played it in years if not a decade at least.
Well, this game is so old now that I think nobody minds. But for a hotly contested speedrun, definitely a patch like Greyface could be disputed. Otherwise it opens the gates to all sorts of mods and it's no longer a level playing field.
Nice run pal tried speeding run this so many times but enjoy it tht much I end ignoring the Speedrun nd jus 100% everytime
Always wished they made a might and magic based off the good ending of 7. Multiple worlds and all that. Somehow. Oh well.
This actually what happened canoncally. This how people escaped in new world in Heroes 4/MM9 after destruction of enroth
Never got to that pit where a guy keeps assuring you "WE CAN FIX YOU! COME BACK SOON"
This is what Everquest emulated back in the day, 1999.
Just started a play through of this game because I was on vacation only had an older laptop, I used to just cheese it by arrowing the red dragon in the cave and then saving and just reloading whenever I got a double pick up, pick up at artifact or relic without the body disappearing, saving, looting, loading looting, loading looting, until I’m just decked out in end game gear
Walking by Behemoths in the Nighon tunnels is by far the most impressive thing. In a straight playthrough I hated fighting them so I tried to run by (also in the fucking Breeding Zone) but the bastards are too fucking huge and take up the whole damn path. How you managed to maintain invisibility AND bypass them I'll never know. Also I have a couple questions: How much time does it take to learn all the perfect routes and ways to do this? And second, you do it so fast that I can't tell when or if you made any mistakes so where did you think you screwed up if at all?
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. The SDA forum thread should answer most of your questions (link in description). The route most likely can be improved, you are welcome to help out :)
I actually made quite a few small mistakes that waste a few moments each time, but it's very hard to do everything perfectly and I would probably never have completed the video if I tried to make it flawless. This is not a complete list, but it gives you an idea of how much improvement there is to be made:
1:20 - slow to buy the seashell
2:10 - ran into the bat
2:30 - ran into another bat
2:45 - should have selected conversation items faster
3:03 - slow to select "Cast off!"
3:30 - slow to select Harmondale
4:30 - didn't land close enough to the second chest
5:35 - bumped into troglodyte
6:37 - bumped into fat dwarf
8:43 - didn't turn far enough
10:50 - slow to start using the well
12:05 - small mistake in allocating Armsmaster skillpoints
12:40 - slow to train to select menu options for expert Unarmed and Dodging
13:25 - missed opening the door the first attempt
15:40 - flew too high to enter the house
16:00 - accidentally hit ESC and opened menu
17:45 - bumped into slime
21:37 - flew up instead of down
21:55 - didn't land close enough to Arbiter's house
24:25 - slow to grab the altar piece
25:25 - bumped into Necromancer
26:40 - should have done the right side button first, to minimise travel time
27:25 - slow to grab key from chest
28:40 - slow to grab key from chest
29:25 - bumped into air elemental
30:40 - bumped into angel
31:55 - forgot to rest before trying to use town portal
35:50 - got stuck at the door frame
37:25 - tried to open char 1's inventory, but was recovering from using the Lloyd's Beacon scroll
37:30 - slow to select Tularean Forest
39:25 - slow to recall to Castle Lambent
gammadragon holy crap the only one I noticed was the last one selecting lambent.
I must have played this game twenty times , literally. I have not had the chance to play the new Might and Magic X, but I hope the tradition of the great Jon Van Caneghem has been kept intact. Can anyone answer why this series (VI , VII, VIII ... maybe IX) is so good ? What I mean is ... Most who have played this series in the late 90 , even more than a decade later, are still fans, powered by the powerful nostalgia that this series produces. What is great in M & M ... The incredible soundtrack? The atmospheric model in first person ? A number of innovative features ? Any idea?
+Pedro Schier The world coupled with the gameplay and music is what does it for me. Few games hit all those marks that 6,7,8 did.
As far as I recall, M&M series was the only massively open world rpg of its time. Basically it is what Skyrim would be 20 years ago. It was also very beautiful and innovative, again for its time, and offered significant creative freedom to the players. I tried replaying M&MIV a few years ago and it sucked, its gameplay and graphics didn't age well, but back when I could afford to put several full weeks into a game I did enjoy it.
To me what makes these games great is the same reason I hate modern day games: The freedom to go and do whatever you like without any form of the game holding your hands whatsoever (unless you look up solutions on the internet) in a world that is just filled to the brim with content and little details. They simply don't make games like these anymore. Every game nowadays needs to be casual friendly, to appeal to a broader audience. And then there are people who refer to the darksouls genre as "hardcore"... I laugh in your face.
It was made for PC. In the console age, we don't get gems anymore, we get "lowest common denominator sellouts".
@@MrKeotan I mean why say that it's what Skyrim would be when you literally had a massively open-world Elder scrolls game by then, like Arena, Daggerfall, and Redguard 😂
i love how the ship at the ned is just battlestar galactica.
Best game ever, i wish somebody revamps series.
Omg.. when i was little I had a Might and Magic game pack..it came with 6,7 and some others, This one was my favorite I would play it all day great memories... but then i threw it away when I started buying The Elder Scrolls games. :( I miss it
anyone Can wxplain why those units look like those from Heroes III ??? i know it is some kind of the same universum but lol how ? and why ? There is no info about this subject anywhere...
''heroes'' Of might and magic.
MM7 came out after HoMM3 so they might have reused some assets. Like ghosts for example.
Not played in a few years, but one of my favorite games. I do not see the difference between reloading vendor shops and using an editor. Except the editor is potentially faster.
Hi there, I wonder, what is the level that the heroes reached to be strong enough for such fast walkthrough?
I dont think its the lvl that mattered. He went to the land of giants and used some glitch/exploit to get loads of skillpoints, which he used for bodybuilding, dodge and unarmed. you can see on the end screen they were only lvl 20, 19 and 18 monks and a lvl 7 thief
@@spyros186 lvl 7 corpse/sometimes thief 😂
@@Th3UprightMan I have never realised how weird it is to get a reply to a comment 9 years after it was made ... thanks for making me feel old!
Have u played BigDaddyJim (BDJ) mod? I hope to see you make a speedrun attempt on that one :)
Can I run this on my GTX970 and i7 965? Or will my 12GB RAM be a limiting factor...
+TheVanillatech On your stone age i7? Should be fine.
Lol! Well you will be hard pressed to have graphics acceleration without a tool :P
You need to upgrade your boomer machine, grandpa. This game system requirement is very demanding.
Of course not, you fool. What potato of a system is that?!
i wonder, would the overall strategy be very different, if the goal was to achieve a ingametime-"speedrun"?
+paul y Yes, definitely. Some parts would be identical (e.g. Emerald Isle) but many other things would change. Initial party choice, travel schedules especially, and would likely hire a couple of helpers to reduce travel time between maps.
i thought about that too. but my wont let me play tjis game no more. i got addicted :D. blasters and haste spelll nothing can go wrong

For ppl buying on ubi store the MM7, the well glitch no longer works. The well is dead, does not give bonuses anymore.
I bought my copy from gog.com and not Ubisoft, but were you aware that the Land of the Giants well requires you to have more than 5000 gold to work?
gammadragon
Yep u were right, still works after all ^^
It does work, you need to apply Protection vs magic and be very careful when clicking on it constantly. Some of what was shown in this video doesn't work in later versions of the game.
gave me nostalgia satisfaction without having to play the game for a month haha
Simply insane! great video
How to start this game on Windows 7?
Why did you change all the monks to goblins?
More str and end I'm guessing. They're the hardiest of the races.

I thought M&M X Legacy was very enjoyable.
Is this pc only?
Haha. How many reloads for those two invisibility scrolls?
A great many :D maybe around 500? they were very quick attempts though so not a huge amount of time.
Thanks for the video - never thought it would be possible to get through the tunnels like that. Just managed to do it myself.
@@gammadragon2 Came here for the same question :) However is it fair to substract this time from the overall speedrun time?
@@m0nk5tr it's official timing from Speed Demos Archive. They have a consistent approach to timing speedruns so it's a level playing field.

This game was so good.
Whoa nice speedrun
is 3DO dead?
As much as I know, yes.
James Maffei Abortion XDDD But really, I personally think that both titles are still being great in their own right, even if you can win VIII practically in a real-life day (and where they also recycled some sounds from VII as well, tested it myself) and IX being even harder to play than VI.
Say, what`s your opinion on M&M X: Legacy as well as Heroes of M&M series, like III and IV?
*****
I agree, both titles are good, but they could have been so much better with another year of development and testing. I've been playing the series since M&M II came out and love the entire series. World of Xeen is my favorite of the franchise.
I have not play X yet as I'm working on another game still but it is next in the queue. From what I have seen it look awesome. I've never played any of the Heroes.
BTY, I though IX was just too easy. I play my games to include completing all the quests and I am able to complete it in around 1 month 16 days in game terms.
James Maffei That I agree indeed, they could have been so much better. Curse the bloody bankrupting~ even though judging from the credit dungeons, the community could also contribute their own fair share in making it as well.
I see. As for Heroes series, well, I hope that you like strategy games, since they`re all, as much as I know, strategy games. I played HoMM, HoMM III and HoMM IV and all of them are really good games, with III being the best one of the bunch. Only make sure to get the Complete edition :)
Really? Oh wow, I tip my hat to you there, really. I never managed to win IX in all my game time while my bro needed almost a year to beat it once O_o
*****
I don't do strategy games on the computer. Never meet an AI I thought was worth it. I stick to FTF board and miniatures gaming for my strategy.
The secret to speed in MM IX is knowing the boat schedule and what quests to do when. Having a druid in the party is nice as she can get TP and LB very early in the game.
What do your helpers do? cast spells?
Yes, they let the party cast the Town Portal and Fly spells long before any characters could obtain them.
I see. Wonder if those two wouldn't be the optimal choice for a pure might party. Can you get a lloyd's beacon helper too?
Zeus Blue Unfortunately there are no followers which cast the Lloyd's Beacon spell. The best option for that is scrolls bought from Celeste or Bracada Desert, or possibly The Pit
I kind of spam lloyds beacon when i play so that is not an option :P
Do you think the monk is superior to the knight?
I am impressed! Nice job
Thank you!
Couldn't believe in getting to LoG on lvl 1 so tried myself. It's possible, though you need absolutely perfect timing in Tunnels to Eofol. Waiting for two invisibility scrolls in Stone City is pretty annoying, so I got the second one in Nighon.
Nicely done!
good show, but at least you can cast torch light? it's so dark everywhere making watch this painful
I suspect you've played this game before...
Along with Gothic, Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI is just the best RPG game in history!
Don't forget xenogears
