I agree on removing the hood latches and only open them using both hands one each side. Dont lift from the center. Every 345 I have bought I throw the hood latches in the trash.
I have constant electrical problems on my 345. I believe the engine and hydrostatic trans are pretty good. Deere is like BMW, highly engineered, poor reliability, and stunning parts prices.
Probably were using that valve as a trailer pin. These are better Machines, then anything their making these day's. But even theses have way to much Plastic. Good luck with the Project.

The early (1995-1998) 345's are the best belt driven garden tractors ever made. The steel cam gear swap is easy to do.

I own a craftman gt 5000 with 2145 hours, b&s intek works fine, check oil before use
