Binyomin Miller is an absolute genius. I love all of his videos. His lyrics are brilliant. However, I can't bring myself to post this on my FB page because it portrays Orthodox Jews as fat slovenly gluttons and it also mildly and indirectly mocks Modern Orthodox Jews and Baalei Teshuva's (mis)pronounciations. I have many non-Orthodox Jewish colleagues who simply won't appreciate the comic genius of the video and will only see big fat ugly fressers. Again, I absolutely love this video and BM's Mussar about eating right is brilliant, but I can't share it with my non-Orthodox colleagues. BCC

My kids were shown this by a rabbi and teacher and I'm disgusted by the way they are eating here but not only that, that my kids used the words "fat" for the first time ever when i have specifically taught them that it is hurtful to comment on people's bodies and to not focus on them. I had to explain "anorexia" to them! I don't mind telling them about it but it's all comedic here and this is pretty insulting, especially to people who struggle with being overweight. Lots of reasons why i too have a problem with it.

When I saw the tag line "loose foe austim" I thought, that could be a healthy thing if presented in an appropriate and sensitive manner...and then I saw the video. Ouch. All this makes me think of is the people I lost in my life mental ilness and eating disorders. As an de survivor myself who lives in the frum Community I find this video to be in poor taste. While I don't think that it was meant to be offensive, fat shaming content like this still harmful. The image of a thin person publicly shaming a group of men who are bigger than him and the montage of binge eating behaviors that are intended to be both repulsive and humorous. Who is this video supposed to inspire? It looks like proana reverse thinspo gone sour.
This music video is particularly insensitive to people who suffer from binge eating disorder and bulimia, but it can equally serve as a trigger for people with restrictive eating disorders of any diagnosis, age, or gender. Eating Disorders are a serious issue globally and especially in the frum community. Frum people not only have the burden of negotiating with insurance companies to get adequate care, but also finding kosher and shobbos compatible inpatient care is almost impossible. It's such a serious issue that robbonim often direct patients to put aside shobbos and kosher in order to attend rehab.
It's not just about people being too sensitive or just one music video put out by a frum organization. It's the sum total of a cultural complex. It's about cruel diet adds in frum magazines, it's the way tznius clothing stores stock their clothes, it's the "shidduch-by-resume" system, it's about the way these things intersect with people and their predisposition towards disordered eating.Trauma, abuse, physical illness, and other factors contribute to it as well.
The OU put out a documentary on this subject called "Hungry to be Heard".

I think this video is horrible. It is fat shaming at its worst! And just because some fat people participated doesn't make it any less fat shaming! I think it should be taken down. And as a Mom of child on the Autism spectrum I am even more horrified that for the support of kids with Autism it was thought okay to shame fat people.
Fat shaming is when its targeted at a specific person. stop being so politically correct and recognize the amazing level of conversation, awareness and weightloss was brought about by this wonderful project.
In addition to being something that is really helpful to obese people in the community, it also raised a significant amount of money to help autistic children.

(However, I think this video actually targets gluttons, not fat people, although it does only target gluttons who are fat (: )
