Fun to watch after all these years. I was actually gifted a mechanical pencil. Have always loved the Cross Century mechanical pencil. I also have an erasure stick since I tend to use up the erasure.
I used Papermate 0.7 mechanical pencils when I was a garden designer. The drawings I did with it photocopied well and the erasers worked cleanly when needed. . Ah memories.
It’s amazing how far mechanical pencils have come. I started using Pentel mechanical pencils decades ago, and they are my favorite, especially the Kerry’s. Today you can buy excellent mechanical pencils for a very reasonable price (as this video shows). The variety is amazing. Same can be said for ordinary no. 2 (hb) pencils. The biggest difference in mechanical pencils today are the erasers. Years ago they were horrible. Didn’t erase well, and didn’t age will. Some would turn as hard as a rock. For that reason I started using a Pentel white eraser stick. I Still keep one handy when using pencils. I Highly recommend. I used to write almost everything in pencil, and I do love ‘em, but I am completely hooked on fountain pens now. I still have a large collection of pencils, but even more fountain pens. I guess I love anything that writes, even my Apple Pencil on my iPad. Interesting video, as is usual, Chris. Thanks.
Hi Frank - thank you - you found my most viewed video :) ... ! I find it funny because I think it's my only pencil video. Oh yes, all of our OLD mechanical pencils have terribly dried out erasers! I too love everything that "writes". Thanks for the comment!
I hope I don't catch another virus -- I'm so into fountain pens, books and crafts .... here lately I slowed WAY down on books and I use the library so that I can put my $ toward pen things. LOL
I use the electronic lending library (sponsored by my local library) for the same reason. I only purchase an actual book when I know I want the book for a long time (for reference, classes I may be taking, etc.). I used to have so many books they needed two rooms to store. I finally weeded out, gifted, donated, etc. and now I'm very mindful of the books I actually buy. I would have to say books were my first virus. LOL
Hi Stargirl - oh that's a bummer -- I'm not sure how to fix them but I hope you can find maybe a video on it? It's amazing now the videos that are are out there!!!!!
Hi TwoBoysOneChannel -- I'll have to look for the 0.9 I have not had one but it sounds nice. The 1.0 mm older ones I had wrote very nice & visibly too but I can't find them anymore.
I am so glad to see mechanical pencils mentioned for bullet journaling. I can't write 4 words in a row without making a mistake, plus I'm left handed so pens are no-go for me, at least as far as the writing part of bujoing. Mechanical pencils also make it easier to write neatly vs wood pencils. I used to give them to my kids when they were little and trying to learn to write neatly.
Hi Priscilla - I really rely on my mechanical pencils for journaling layouts and lettering - then I ofen marker over my pencil writing more neatly. :) Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video! I'm currently using the pentel energize mechanical pencil and i love it! Would love to see a flip through of your bullet journal, and can't wait to see your thoughts on the TWSBI GO when you get it!
Hi Michelle --Thank you!! I'll have to see if my bullet journal is fit for showing -- I had a long time where I was writing about difficult emotions but normally that kind of writing goes into my daily process journal -- hopefully I can work around the sad words -- I'd like to be able to show my journal even though it's not artistic -- it means a lot to me. I'm impatiently waiting for my GO pen. I hope it's today. I've been watching others' videos just to get a good look at the pen -- even one where they spoke entirely in Spanish but it was a great video!
Hi Jerohn - I have that issue too -- mostly I use a separate eraser (A General's Tri Tip) but when I have to use the eraser on the Paper Mate I kind of extend it out far enough to pinch hold it in place. It is very annoying I agree!
Chris Saenz thanks for the reply I had talk to a papermate customer service. They told me to remove the eraser cap off the pencil. Then turn the knob clockwise to make the eraser move up depending on how much you want out)After that put the cap back on the pencil and it shouldn't move anymore. But it's kind of iffy. Sometimes it work. Sometimes it don't. 😄
There is a mechanical pencil I like named "delguard". It has some cool extra features other mechanical pens don't have. I use the 0.5 and it never breaks the point even if I try to break it! Check it out and you will see how it works! :)
Ugh that's frustrating! I tend to use a separate eraser but it is nice for the erasers on pencils to work right ... I need to check mine and see if they also do this.
Where can we buy just the refillable erasers? Send me the link pls thanks!😊 (I don't want to buy a whole new pack coming with the pencils as I already have them, I only need the erasers, and I can't find them at Walmart or online)
Hi Aarya -- oh boy I'm having trouble finding just the erasers too. I think someone had mentioned that another brand of eraser fits in this pencil, but my memory is not providing me with that info. I will keep checking and if I figure it out or find that reference, I'll come back and post it for you. I myself, use a big triangle eraser on my desk so I don't often use up these erasers. :) Thanks for viewing!!!
HeyItz_ Bdogg it cost about the same to buy a pack of 2 new papermate pencils that come with 4 erasers than to buy those 2 erasers. I use papermate and am dealing with the same eraser problem.
Thanks Chris for posting this video. This pencil looks the business, but when you showed me how much of an eraser you get with pencil; I will be on the look out for this mech pencil. Are #2 pencils the same as HB pencils?
I like mechanical pencils, good ones, just as much as I like fountain pens. I've owned hundreds of different ones, and dozens of the same kind. Can't say I'm fond of the Clearpoint. Even for mechanical pencils, that's really too cheap to be much good. It will probably work well for how you use it, but the two I had both broke when I used them hard, and my grandkids didn't do any better using them in school. But kids are always hard on pencils. So am I when it's a work pencil. One of my favorite mechanical pencils is the Pilot Metropolitan. It costs from twenty to twenty-four dollars, or about the same price as the fountain pen version, but it's worth every penny. When most think of the Pilot Metropolitan, they think of a fountain pen, but it also comes in ballpoint pen, and in mechanical pencil. I don't like any ballpoint pen, but I love the mechanical pencil version, and it's a great companion to the fountain pen. But I use many mechanical pencils, mostly drafting pencils, and in nearly every lead size; 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9. 1.1, and 2.0MM are all useful. Most often, I use 2B or 4B lead for writing and sketching, and even softer/darker leads for drawing. There are also colored leads I like to use for some drawing. The HB that comes with mechanical pencils is just to light for me, but many don't even know better lead exists I give all the HB to my grandkids for use in school. Another pencil I love using is a Parker Duofold that I inherited from my mother-in-law. It's actually twenty years older than I am, but it still works and I love using it. It's also jade greenand green is one of my favorite colors, with purple being the other. I've had mechanical drafting pencils, lead holders, that cost over a hundred dollars. I had four rOtrings, and all four broke within months. So did two extremely expensive Japanese pencils that someone at the Hearst corporation sent me. They broke, too. The pencil that has lasted forever, even through years of five to twelve hour days, has been the Pentel 200 series pencils. I don't know how well the current ones are made. I have eight of them, but haven't used them. But the old ones have lasted for about thirty-five years, despite have well over half a million words on each of them. It's crazy. I even love woodcase pencils, and one year I bought twelve gross of Ticonderoga number two pencils. I think that's 1,728 pencils. I used them all amazingly fast. But I grab every woodcase pencil I can, good, bad, pretty or plain. I finally broke down and gave my grandkids a couple of hundred, but I'm already starting to build back up again. I just bought a dozen Chinese pencils with 2B lead just because all the writing on them is in Chinese,, and because the product description said they're the pencil they have to use for taking exams in China. And they're green. I buy almost anything if it's green or purple. They are extremely good pencils, but I already had four or five dozen pencils with 2B lead, so I didn't need them. Anyway, I dearly love my fountain pens and all those beautiful bottled inks, and cartridge inks. But I also lone mechanical pencils. And woodcase pencils. And quill pens. And steel dip pens. And glass dip pens. And gel pens. And clay tablets with a reed stylus. If it's a writing instrument, it attracts me like a moth to a flame. But the two I keep buying, even though I already have more than I actually need, are fountain pens and mechanical pencils. I just can't get enough of either.
My only problem is for some reason the plastic holding the end with the pen together breaks easily... or at least compared to other ones. Maybe I just don’t keep them well enough. Overall great pens
Hi Chris very interesting Mech pencil i really like the idea operating button on the barrel and that fact it has a very long rubber is a bonus as well. Because most Mech pencils only have little rubbers that wear away very quickly. I have got a Rotring Mech pencil which i have had for at least thirty-years and i am still using it to this day. But the only let down as i mentioned earlier was the little rubber which didn't last very long. So i think some of the Paper Mate Mech pencils are going on the list as well. Chris try looking in the lost sock drawer you might find your missing pencils in their LOL!!! Thank you as always for another awesome review and God Bless to you all!!!!
Thanks Wayne -- yes these pencils have the advantage of the nice long eraser and one of the packs I saw had 2 pencils, extra erasers and extra leads for very reasonable under $5. I thought that was great!!!!!
I didn't know these existed. I'm a long-time Pentel mechanical pencil fan (we used to call them "eversharps"). Love that eraser design, and the happy colors. Looks like Pentel also has a similar design ("Twist-Erase® CLICK Mechanical Pencil"). The bad part is having to change my grip to advance the lead. Most mechanicals suffer from this design flaw, but not all. Pentel makes one with a clicker like that Skillcraft you showed, I have a couple of the originals still, and I can click them without changing my grip much so it doesn't distract me. Looks like the current model has a rubber grip (Quicker Clicker™ Mechanical Pencil). Yes, I'm pushing Pentels, the ones I still use are 25 years old and used hard. You remind me I only have one 0.7mm though, which is better than my 0.5mm pencils I have for many things artistic. The 0.5mm are better for taking notes and doing calculus problems.
Chris I am using the green one,it really is a great pencil and if you are interested there is a mechanical pencil review UA-cam channel called clutch situation very interesting

Hi TechKid. I have so much to learn about mechanical pencils -- I saw Clutch Situation has tons of cool videos about them so I know where to go to learn more!!!! :)
For everybody that’s Watching this in 2021 Office Depot is having a clearance sale 1 paper mate mechanical Pencil for a dollar posted January 3 will update When it’s over
Blargh, it seems like I was too late because they're out of stock now :( . Luckily I still have a few old ones from middle school (2011) that still work solid! I heard that they changed the design recently so that the newer pencils don't grip the lead as good as they used to so I'm planning to buy a new clearpoint pencil to see if this is actually true.
Hi fashannon - oh I hear you! I'd be upset if I lost one! I tend to carry cheap pencils when I leave the house but at home at my desk and in my bullet journal I use these nicer ones! :)
Chris if i am correct i think their is a Native American tribe called Black Foot. But don't hold me to that it is something i heard and could be incorrect. Thanks again.
The plastic clutch and the plastic build in general is fairly low quality and these Clearpoints usually don't last long. For a few dollars more the Pentel P200 is so much better, brass internals and lasts forever
Hi - thank you for the pencil recommendation - I have had great luck with these Clearpoints but I'm probably very light on t hem. I'll check out the Pentel P200 it sounds great!
Expensive? I don't know how much you these costed when you saw them, but I got mine for 8$ CAD for a pack of 2 pencils, 2 eraser refills, and lead refills
The erasers actually work properly.
I have used Papermate for 30 years as a Garden designer.
Hi Neil -- I love these pencils - I've managed to not misplace my purple one for a LONG time now! :) I use it everyday!
neil piper I can’t lock the eraser out. When I try to erase, the eraser goes back in. How do you lock the eraser? Please help
Paul Valencia late reply but you may press the eraser too hard
have loved these since highschool
They are still my favorite pencil too! :)
"When I saw the purple one, I was toast." LOL. Purple is my favorite color too.
Same and my mom too
They also sell them on the dollar general i hve one of those and its green cause its my favorite color
Same
I love these pencils and have used them for years. It's fun to swap the pencil tops, too.
Fun to watch after all these years. I was actually gifted a mechanical pencil. Have always loved the Cross Century mechanical pencil. I also have an erasure stick since I tend to use up the erasure.
Hi Edward ... the famous pencil review. LOL

Hi Neil - I use these pencils everyday in my journals for lettering before going over with a pen & I really love them! Garden designing sounds fun!!!
Nice mechanical pencil I will be making a trip to Walmart to get one! They do look like a pen and the long eraser is a bonus.
Hi Raye -- they are nice pencils!!!! I use mine all the time and the only danger seems to be losing them!!!! Or having others pick them up.

What is the problem with it
mine the replacable lead doesnt work, I put it in and it just gets stuck or does nothing 😞
Hi Valerie - oh that's awful ... I'm sorry you got a bad one. I've had such good luck with mine.
I just bought a 4 pack for $15 and im so excited to use them!
Hi Jacqui awesome! I hope you enjoy them - I still love mine!
There is a thicker one which is 0.9 lead I really enjoy how dark and easy it is to see the lines and the 0.7 lead always breaks
Hi TwoBoysOneChannel -- I'll have to look for the 0.9 I have not had one but it sounds nice. The 1.0 mm older ones I had wrote very nice & visibly too but I can't find them anymore.
The only bummer about these pencils is that they don’t really sell extra erasers by themselves but you can hustle use pentel twist erase erasers

The Pilot Dr. Grip mechanical pencil is fantastic as well. I've had mine since they first came out in the 90s.
Thank you for mentioning this I will check into it!!!!
I just bought a two pack. I can't advance the eraser on either one. How do you advance the eraser??!
On mine I just turn the little knob at the eraser end of the pencil clockwise.
Hello I was using the eraser and it wouldnt stay in place while using it. It kept sliding down. How do I make it stay in place?
Hi Jerohn - I have that issue too -- mostly I use a separate eraser (A General's Tri Tip) but when I have to use the eraser on the Paper Mate I kind of extend it out far enough to pinch hold it in place. It is very annoying I agree!

Hi Allie -- I don't think I knew this -- I will have to keep an eye out for the 0.9 because there are times when I'm looking for a wider lead. :)
That’s colored
I love that your always in a happy mood it bring me joy! 🙂🙂🙂
Hi CJ. Pens and inks and everything paper and stationary puts me in a great mood along with connecting with other people who like the same things!!!!

Hi Amanda - awesome - these are great pencils - I use them daily!!!! :)
Your most famous video!
There's just no accounting for it but ... it's a good laugh!
For everybody that’s Watching this in 2021 Office Depot is having a clearance sale 1 paper mate mechanical Pencil for a dollar posted January 3 will update When it’s over
Thank you for this - I was just thinking I needed to get some because my husband loves them too!!!!
Blargh, it seems like I was too late because they're out of stock now :( . Luckily I still have a few old ones from middle school (2011) that still work solid! I heard that they changed the design recently so that the newer pencils don't grip the lead as good as they used to so I'm planning to buy a new clearpoint pencil to see if this is actually true.
i love these pencils but theyre so pricey and i always lose them at school
Hi fashannon - oh I hear you! I'd be upset if I lost one! I tend to carry cheap pencils when I leave the house but at home at my desk and in my bullet journal I use these nicer ones! :)
I collect writing instruments. Good pencil but not one of my favorites
These are my life
Hi Random Artist -- they are great right!!! :)
My pencil addiction us horrible..I got the pink one. She said she stole it first but I stole it from a enemy. XD It was the black one.
It is not coming
I accidentally took the eraser out of it help! It won’t go back in edit: I did it my mistake
Oh good. LOL One set I have came with replacement erasers but I have yet to put a new one in. I usually use a larger separate eraser.
@@ChrisSaenz13 it also came with a replaceable eraser
Chris if i am correct i think their is a Native American tribe called Black Foot. But don't hold me to that it is something i heard and could be incorrect. Thanks again.
That sounds right Wayne - I will have to look it up.
Chris excellent i will also look it up as well. Thanks again
Less talk and more demonstrations
The plastic clutch and the plastic build in general is fairly low quality and these Clearpoints usually don't last long. For a few dollars more the Pentel P200 is so much better, brass internals and lasts forever
Hi - thank you for the pencil recommendation - I have had great luck with these Clearpoints but I'm probably very light on t hem. I'll check out the Pentel P200 it sounds great!
XD I have those same ones cuz I collet mechanical pencils and I have like 50 of them
Hi Princess -- I too love mechanical pencils + I'm so glad they now make really pretty ones!!!!
i lost all 4 of them this year 🤬🤬
Ahh ... that's sad ... I hope maybe one or more will turn up ... I've been cleaning my desk drawers and area and I'm "finding" so many things!!!!
They're rlly expensive.. I'm way too broke to afford those 😂
Hi Mariam - oh I remember those days. I hope you'll soon enjoy prosperity and be able to buy lot's of stationery things!!! :)
Chris Saenz thx☺💞
Expensive? I don't know how much you these costed when you saw them, but I got mine for 8$ CAD for a pack of 2 pencils, 2 eraser refills, and lead refills
@@Bocsaphoto lmao I know I'm just being sarcastic 😂😂❤
