- This is another video in my series “Walks in Hampshire” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode, I visit the village of Meonstoke (12 miles North of Fareham) and explore the surrounding area.
My 5.5 mile circular walk starts & finishes at the Meon Hall - the village hall on the outskirts of the village itself. I start off by following footpaths across fields towards my first destination - Old Winchester Hill. After a fairly steep ascent of the hill, through a nature reserve, I get to enjoy the magnificent Iron Age Hill fort at the top with 360 degree views across the countryside.
I descend the hill through some woods before following the South Downs Way in a Westerly direction, back over the disused Meon Valley Railway line and over the River Meon.
My next destination is the tiny village of Exton with it's fine church & pub before crossing the River Meon again to the next settlement - Corhampton - where I get to see an enchanting Saxon church.
I finally make it back to Meonstoke which has a pretty church (one of the most photographed churches in Hampshire), village green and welcoming pub.

Lovely video. Makes me very homesick!
Thanks Kevin. A lovely part of the world around there.
I've said it before and I'll do it again: there's probably no place as beautiful as the British countryside on a sunny day. Thanks for the video :)
Thanks. I certainly agree with you on that! Thanks for watching.
We have just completed this walk, beautiful sunny morning and the views from Old Winchester Hill were outstanding. Yet another super walk that we would never have found ourselves, also enjoyed by our 2 dogs who thoroughly enjoy the lovely chalk stream dips. So much beautiful scenery in Hampshire. Thank you Dave.
Glad that you (and your dogs!) enjoyed the walk. Lovely that you had good weather as well.
Fantastic views Dave. Absolutely breathtaking.
Thank you Rachel. Another really pretty part of Hampshire.
Lovely walk. You can’t beat Hampshire for beautiful walks.
Yes indeed - so many pretty areas in the county for sure. Thanks for watching.
Great walk, you made Winchester Hill look easy ( I know is not). This video made me want to revisit the area. Thank you.
Thanks Rosa. It helps if you have a Whippet to "pull you up" the hill! Thanks for watching.
A gorgeous walk Dave. Stunning scenery and lots to see. Thanks again.
Thanks Mark. It is a lovely part of the world around there, that is for sure.

Thanks. It is a beautiful part of Hampshire around there, that is for sure. Thank you for watching.
Hello again Dave. You’ll probably get fed up with me saying, “I used to live there”, but it’s true and Exton is the earliest village I can recall. When you swung around on that bridge, there was a white walled building. Adjoining that was the village shop and post office, indeed, when I went back there around ten years ago, I could just about make out the old wording above the door. Down below Old Winchester Hill was the first home I can remember, being about 4 yrs of age. I made a video that day, so I’ll have to dig it out for my UA-cam channel. I’ve never seen Logan in the river as often, or with the water up to his knees. Must have been warm. I really enjoyed your walk down memory lane.
Thanks Lionel. What a super place to have lived in - I was quite taken by Exton. as always, thanks for watching.
Nice walking tour! Keep it up!
Thank you -will do! Indeed, thanks for watching. :)
Great video Dave .Shame the saxon Church is closed when i had a look around .Last year it said it was 1000 years old .I go that way though the Meons its a stunning area.
Thanks Ian. It is a lovely part of the world around there for sure.
Nice walk. Thanks for showing The Shoe Inn, lovely pub. With all those beautiful houses around Exton, it made me wonder what do people living there do for a living? What profession should I be in order to afford those kinds of houses?
Yes - I wonder about that sometimes! Thanks for watching.
