The Soviet Union was notorious for using its influence to interfere with and inhibit finnish policies. This became known as _Finlandisation_ Late 80's saw the beginning of laxed political and cultural tension culminating in the dissolution of the Soviet Union and Finland's unrestricted openness towards the West.
