using free plugins you can make really good beats but you will only get to a certain level with them, then it's worth investing in something better
You’re kinda right but it’s really about who’s making the beat. I can have all the best sounds in the world but if I’m not good at making beats then it doesn’t matter. However it’s always best to get better sounds/drumkits
Not entirely true, you could have all the latest VSTs and have no idea how to use them. This is a good example of how using stock drums and even stock plugins to a degree can still go hard. Kinda emphasizes the point of sound selection
Na ultimately its the producer. You can make a beat out of anything at all if you know how to.
Nah, it's not true at all. Many many hits have been made using stock ableton/logic plugins. Stuff like shaperbox, thermal, portal etc. are just multi effect modules that package the needed effects into a convient and easy to use package with macros etc. But you can get similar effects with any grain/delay/reverb/phaser/flanger etc. The only things you really need to spend money on is sample libraries, but you could even get away with using one shots and decent sampler+pianobook.
Stuff like looperator or effectrix can EASILY be emulated in any daw. It's literally just sequencing effects that all daws come with stock. The only thing those plugins of is convience, but you can easily make you own setup in patcher to just automate the dry wet of a plugin like looperator and effectrix does.
Best beats are made with limited resources. Nice work 🔥

Great work. You really have a mastery of the ambient/atmospheric textures that lend to a dark mood. Honestly, I need to look into Flex--some fairly dope shit in there. I can remember the days of picking through Sytrus trying to find something that didn't sound completely dorky and computer-y.

QUICK TIP - If you press alt on your keyboard and then you click a knob or even works on eqs or some plugins, they will reset to default instead of right clicking and then choosing the reset option like in the minute 7:12 , just a shortcut i think it can be really usefull : )

I think most DAWs come with enough presets and samples to make half decent beats.

This why I learned how to sound design from the FL Sampler and on multiple wave tables. Whenever I cook up on a computer with no sounds I can just make my own stuff or tweak existing samples into what I want

I'll never forget the first beat I ever made over 14 years ago. It was essentially a Lil Wyane Lollipop ripoff using stock drums and sytrus. I thought I was absolute hot sht at the time, but now I just look back and fckn cringe. 😆

That whole first 2 minute struggle you had in this at first feels like my constant struggles no matter what plugins i use LMFAO I get good sounds, good intitial chords and basic melody going....then it goes down hill from there every time...Layering sounds great at first, try adding counters, and trying to fill up frequency space to make it sound better and bam, another ruined beat that started decently lmao idk how tf you, dirkey, and other producers who put out these vids even got to the level youre at tbh. Of course, its only been about a month so far for me, so i guess it did take you all alot longer to start making fire beats consistently lmao Im just impatient I spose
