Great video roadmap to change the bulb. TIP: There is no need to remove the bulb clip and risk dropping the screw. Simply unwind the bulb clip screw 3 or 4 turns without removing it and then slide the clip up and move it to the side. You can then easily remove the bulb without having to remove the clip. When you've changed the bulb, slide the clip back into place and re- tighten the screw.😂😮😮
Great tip - Thank you for the comment!
Good job! People in the Amazon reviews had me nervous. Changed mine in less than 5 minutes after watching your video. Thanks!
I watch this every year! Thanks!
Thank you for the feedback, Filming this was almost an after thought, but glad we did - Thank you for the comment!
Thanks, couldn't find my instructions.Leeann is the BEST!
I will let Leeann know - thank you so much!
Thanks, it took more time to brush the bugs then to replace the bulb.
Oh yes, thanks for the memories of that dirty job, hehehe Thank you for the comment!

Thank you! Your kind teamwork is uplifting
Thank you for the comment!
I have the same model but the screw holding the bulb clamp is so long, you don't need to remove it. Just loosen it enough to lift clamp and turn it sideways. Replace the bulb. Turn the clamp and tighten it down until snug. No need to "gorilla" it.
Great Tip - Thank you for the comment!
Y'all are adorable by the way. Appreciate this video

Thank you so much I was about to break something trying to pull it out without taking out the little bracket
Glad this helped - Thank you for your comment.
thank you so much
Its not necessary to remove the lightbulb retaining screw and risk losing it. Simply unwind the screw halfway, elevate the lightbulb retaining bracket and slide it over the top of the lightbulb housing. Remove bulb and replace and then slide bracket back in place. Screw the retaining bracket back in place. Job done. 😊
Thank you for the tip
Good job. Thanks

I love that LeeAnne said lefty loosey, which is how I taught by boys 😀
Hehehe - I think I also saw it all of the time - Thank you for the comment!
Nice I'm changing my bulb today. I have used it 24/7 and it last 4 months. I have the same one but mine is on a pole that it comes with from hsn
Nice 👍 - Thank you for your comment!
I wouldn't touch the bulb, that usually shortens the life with the oils in your hand. I would use rubber gloves when putting new bulb in or use the Styrofoam envelope over the bulb. Anything to not touch it is best
Good Tip - this is SUPER important for Halogen light bulbs - Thank you for your comment
The older Dynatrap's are much harder to work with. They require the removal of at least 4 very small screws and they don't twist off, as this newer model does. If you bought one that included a stand, it's even harder. I have to turn it upside down and hang the weighted base from my patio umbrella to work on it.
They are the best bug lights I have ever used - I love them. But, the first models were designed by idots who never had to replace a bulb. The shelf life for a bulb is supposed to be 1,000 hours (about 3 months). I think that annual replacement is just fine. Mine typically burn for 2+ years, 24x7. You may want to use a timer, to get longer bulb life. ds
The bulb has a clamp that I don't recommend re-installing. Leave it out, unless you foresee moving the lamp long distances or rougher handling. It's really not necessary.
If you have the huge 1/2 acre Dyantrap, you replace the bulbs without disassembly. First, get some whiteout or very visible paint and mark the location of the blue plastic cup around the bulb and where it is positioned to the top plate. Then, remove the small plastic cup around the bulb with one screw. The cap has a twist lock and is easily remove. You will need to remove the bulb retaining bracket first, but then you can easily swap out the bulb.
Be very careful removing the bulbs. I always wear gloves. Make sure they are cool, first. Then, carefully wiggle them out. Sometimes the glass tubes will separate. Don't worry, but don't get cut. The base can be removed with a pair of needle nosed pliers.
Thanks for posting thing. I just wish that you would note that it's for the newest model Dynatrap, not the original models.
Thank you for this great information, I had a bulb once that only last one Summer. I know they are now LEDs, so they should last longer. I wonder if they attract bugs better or worse? Thank you for the comment!
The clip screw stripped right when I looked at it. If that happens to you, go buy a hook pick and an 90 degree angle pick and pry that f-er back and never use it again.
Great tip - Thank you for the comment!
I’m going to put mine on a timer so the bulb isn’t on 24/7. Just from dusk till dawn. Otherwise, I think the bulb burns out prematurely. The bugs are mostly attracted to it at night anyway from the light.
Great idea - I had mine on a dusk to dawn plug - Thank you for the comment!
Welp. This is great other than that wire came disconnected. Was hoping to get some advice to get that reconnected
Does it matter which way you put in the bulb?
No - that's a great questions. Thank you for the comment!
What size screwdriver?
It's a #1 Phillips. Make sure it is magnatized.
Otherwise, work over a white paper or sheet to catch the little screws if they fall out.
If you lose them, you may have to use duct tape to reassemble the lamp, but that works, too !
Nice! Added the step that Dynatrap forgot to add!!!! 😞
how can you tell if old bulb is dead?
My dyna trap has the long bulbs at the top. I need to see a different video
"There's a wire there--ignore that." Didn't appreciate that bad advice. When you snap the old bulb out of the socket, your hand can jump out of the trap housing and accidentally unplug that wire. There's nothing keeping the plug itself from receding inside the housing and this is exactly what happened to me. I've spent half an hour digging around inside that hole with a pair of tweezers and it just isn't working. Everything I do just pushes it further in.
Not to mention the fact, the bulb burned out after three months when it was supposed to last much longer than that. Would not buy Dynatrap again.
I’m fighting that problem now! Ugh🤬🤬
He can't control your negligence.
You're right - that tiny pair of wires run the fan! And, it only fits into the gap between the outer an inner wall of the unit. You don't need to disconnect the wires and it really won't help much if you do.
John Candy teaching how to remove a Dynatrap bulb
RIP the great John Candy
The screw is not as you call it "magnetic" because any non-high grade stainless metal screw would rust.
Very good to know - Thank you for your comment!
He should have said don’t let the fan wire get disconnected from the unit. Once mine separated there is NO way to shove it back on the socket. I had to throw this expensive purchase away. I won’t replace it, either.
My bulb lasted just 2 months
Good video but we don’t care about the grass, and screwdriver blah blah blah, just get to the point. I just wanna change my bulb after all! Longer you take the longer my bulbs dead
Thank you!
