- This is the Mode Envoy.
The Envoy is a really special keyboard. This is the latest 65% keyboard from Mode Designs and it had the task of following up the Sonnet, which is an outstanding keyboard. It follows suit by using some beautiful accent pieces while maintaining a simple design, which Mode has become very good at.
The Envoy also stands out for its price point, starting at $189 USD, it certainly is an attractive offering. Despite its lower price point, Mode did not steer away from tons of customization options and even a new mounting system.

@@kindofadev I live in Canada so technically it’s above 200. But the base config is 189 usd
tbh, the market is so oversaturated with 65% keyboards that the only way someone could even be interested in your kit is if the price is super attractive; after all most of them look and sound identical
@@YaroLord yeah I agree with you. There are so many 65 in the market rn. It would be cool if someone switched it up with a custom layout (like a compressed tkl)
My config was 215-ish but then shipping absolutely obliterates my wallet
this puts a huge smile on my face, big ups to Mode for creating another banger
i feel like i havent found a sound test of the envoy that has shown me anything special about it until now. Your config sounds dope!
Tbh he's one of the best. He just knows what will sound good in a board. He knows the right plate switch combinations. It's really impressive to see (and hear!)
They all have sounded amazing that I've seen. The price is insane for the sound and reported feel

Alex, I was looking for a keyboard just like that! You've found the answer for me! I currently have GMMK Pro and I'm loving it but I was looking for 65% keyboard as well. That's awesome thanks for bringing it to our attention!
literally will be miles better coming from someone who used a GMMK Pro as their first ever board
You’ll never want to go back to the gmmk pro once you’ve tried a mode board or most premium boards in general. (Believe me I’m speaking from experience)

i usually don't like streams at all but yours seems so chill and i love your bvoice and way of talking.

Im actually really excited for this board. I love polycarb and wow it looks so good on the envoy. I paired pc with the chroma weight and accent. I cant wait for this thing.

I wanna see mode tackle a wireless board with via like the zoom series. I would pay top dollar for that.
Not going to lie this isn't my preferred sound profile but it sounds really good for what it sets out to do.

kinda wish they made the top lip a little wider and added that accent piece like the sonnet for that little extra flare but i understand as simple as that sounds it'll probably drive the price up a good bit, at around $200 that sounds amazing for a board with no foam to assist it

Those are really some nice clacks with the alu case.
Alex I just want to let you know that it is very important to wash your hands after handling solder wire with your hand... It leaks into your skin since it is so soft. Could be the main reason your hand is always itchy and dry.

this is a real nice key board i was thinking about buying the plx by peac design but this might persuade me to something else... and save the difference i know they arent a one to one comparison but they both look so slick

How does the typing feel and acoustics compare to an o-ring mounted board? (ex. Parallel or PC bakeneko derivatives)
My end game plan for 65% has been a polycarb o-ring board and was wondering if this could be it. I thought that lattices would work more like gaskets than o-rings at first but, seeing that the inner parts pretty much fall out from the case if you don't screw it down made me think otherwise.
This is softer than an o-ring. The screwing down part doesn’t affect the flex at all because when tightened fully, it isn’t compressing the lattice blocks.
@@bren.r i wonder how thats gonna affect the sound.
My guess was that its going to reduce the amount of effect of the case itself on the sound since theres barely any friction in fitting the pcb/plate(the pcb is essentially resting on top of the lattice blocks) and hence is going to be determined more by switches and plate themselves.
@@erichong3430 well you heard the sound test. Because there's less transfer (lightly resting on the lattice blocks), you get more highs, less lows, so you get a clean, clacky sound with minimal hollowness.

I did! I don’t think the stock lube is sufficient enough honestly!

This is probably the first " budget " board that I'd be perfectly happy owning. If I didn't have the Hiro, this would be a cop.

Same here with the hands. My hands get hella dry in the winter. Will use lotion but hate the feel on the bottom of my hands.
This would look so good with my Asus Zephyrus M15. Almost the same color blue
The dream keyboard has standard layout and standard size, low profile (like laptop keyboards), both Win keys with large Shift, Enter and Backspace keys, silent switches, a full USB hub built-in with 3 available ports, dedicated multimedia keys, programmable macro keys, a volume control knob or bar... a mic mute button in the multimedia keys would be the cherry on top

Thanks! And the real question is do you want another 65% keeb? If youre in the market for a refresh or want something new to fiddle around with, i think its a great pick up. Will it replace your Vega though? Unsure, thats all preference!

Kinda wish I had copped a mode65. Not really a fan of the exterior design of this one. Too many soft corners and the accent is hidden.

Im gonna buy this beacuse i dont want to spend like 800 for a custom keyboard i can do it but it is so much and it sounds really nice i got a steelseries apex pro it is really loud so im used to it and the envoy sounds better and looks cooler and maybe mine dosent sound as much it depends what mods you have

Good video im not a keyboard nerd but seing the build is pretty cool I personnaly use a Filco majestouch ninja with numpad and brown switches no rgb perfection for me

Mode Sonnet
If Im going with PBT keycaps, would I need to get a clackier plate than the aluminium plate? I like clacky full sounding builds and Im afraid the keycaps might mute the sound profile a rad bit too much
If you like the designs you could get mode caps which are pbt and abs blend which adds some clack, but in my experience with pbt alu plates were just fine for a clean sounding clack.

The green, while a pretty garbage shade tbh, actually looks astounding with the copper strip and weight. The feet on the weight are kind of unnecessary though honestly, I wish they just stuck with regular strips like the other two. Pretty damn nice though, good price as well. Even a config with copper everything and no e-coat or polycarbonate case is about $250USD. Mode definitely gonna win a lot of fans with this one, sounds nuts with the long poles and alu too

Taeha Types said that the Envoy is better in many ways. He also said the SixtyFive could be bought, but more for the aesthetics.
The Envoy looks to be quite similar to a gummy o-ring mount in terms of feel and sound, which would be quite different to that of a top mounted Sixty Five. I don't think you'd be disappointed with an Envoy because it'd be more than different enough.
