In today's new "Let's Draw" video, we are going to draw a cartoon dinosaur!
This tutorial will also walk you through character design, how to use basic shapes of different sizes during the sketch process to achieve CRAZY proportions, and extra Procreate tips as well!
If you struggle with where to place shadows and highlights, here is a video I did awhile back that focuses on that specifically (as talked about in this video....yes, this is an older upload; excuse the quality, lol!): • Digital Art 101: Shado...
Let me know in the comments what you would like to see covered in upcoming episodes...you might see your idea come to life!

This was so much fun! The one I did actually turned out great because of your fantastic teachings. I usually do realistic art, doing cartoon art has been a difficult transition, your kindness in teaching and sharing your skills has helped soooo….. much! Also, your pen set makes a world of difference. Your pens are my favorite purchase of the year. ❤❤❤

Awesome looking dino!! Great video! You really should segue to other character designs principles like straight vs curves and the use of opposites. You use them so instinctively that if you broke it down for us, it would be insightful especially with teaching approach. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills with us.

Think you got to get the fact that you come across as:
    1) professional
    2) experianced
    3) pedagogical
    4) comfy voice
    5) good production
    6) relevant content
Normaly it is hard to teach this good if you havent tought it multible times to dumis before.

Your line work is very neat :) Looking at how many lines you are testing to find the right one, I'm thinking perhaps Affinity Designer or another vector illustration software would be a better fit than Procreate? This way you'll have a very fine control of where your line is and how thick it should be, without redrawing it multiple time.

This is something I definitely struggle with. I feel like all my characters are so stiff. I feel like if I can just loosen up and relax with my sketching then my art might look more interesting. So really enjoyed this video it was very helpful for practicing. Thank you, Sir. 🥰

Megorium I know this comment wasn’t meant for me, except I use an older version of Procreate myself & you can loosen up & relax. I do enjoy the perfect shapes feature, because it does come in handy, except lately I have gotten to use Procreate so much that now I am using the perfect shape features less & less! I do hope to get Procreate 5 some day so I can animate my work!

I think this is one of the best procreate drawing videos ive seen on here it was very well explained and easy to follow as im new to procreate i struggle to keep up with what people are clicking on flipping between layers and brushes but you went through all the layers brushes slowly and said what they were so i could really learn so thank you for that, i do have one question, for a png do i need to clip all the layers together? also this was an awesome drawing.

Thank you for the vids. I have a question for you. I recently started using procreate and I am using an off brand stylus. I bought one of your brush sets and I can't get a taper feel at all. I haven't changed any of the setting on the brushes and I just can't figure it out. Any help please?

It's awesome... Although I noticed you changed the highlights for the thumbnail ;)

    • @BeeJayDeL

Yup-if I decide to post just the illustrations from these videos on social media, I usually spend a couple more minutes tightening them up a bit (trying to keep these videos around the half hour mark doesn’t give me enough time to make sure everything is perfect on the first pass, lol!) TIP-don’t be afraid to re-evaluate your work after you are done! A fresh look a little later and you might see something that could benefit from some adjustments! On this one, I didn’t really change the highlights-it was more shadows and adding some extra details here and there on the inking layer. Thanks for watching and look forward to seeing what you put up!

@@BeeJayDeL I think I only really noticed because I couldn't help but see a face in the first one :)
Thanks for that tip - it's something I've never managed to master, though. I'll spend hours on a doodle and send it off to someone only to follow it up with "don't use this, I noticed a mistake," or "this version is better."
If I would just leave it for a little before going back to it with fresh eyes I wouldn't have that problem :)

When he does the removal of the white from the nostrils, how exactly does the white come off. I can get to drawing the lines with the selector tool, but when I erase, nothing comes off.

you make illustrations easier but looks expensive. It's also great to tell everyone esp to beginners to it's ok to erase and redo lines to get the lines and colors we wanted. I love the outcome, the style and the technique.
