I taught this curriculum for 10 years . I could say so much that would help but I’ll just say . You will waste tons of time looking for something that’s comparable to Abeka . It won’t come close . It works well to set them up for success in the future grades . The 3 year olds LOVED “the Growing up with amber lamb “large storybook . Their eyes were glued to the large pictures. The lessons stuck .
The best of the curriculum are the animal alphabet cards and the language development cards .
Second is the growing up with amber lamb book , but this is for character development and is used best with children that maybe have trouble sharing . It uses amber lamb to teach child appropriate life lessons .
We never used the song books , poetry books . They weren’t Interested in them and lost interest .
It was half and half with the crafts and workbooks . If you had a 2-3 year old that liked to sit and color then it was successful but some children at that age don’t like those things and that’s ok 👍🏼 . I hope I’ve helped someone .

I also want to mention that they have people that can answer all your questions . They have a school that they use this curriculum in Pensacola , Florida . This is where they are based out of . The people from the school are so helpful and have answered questions so many times for myself . Down to the T . I’ve called about clarification on a certain page on a my sons school work and they’ll transfer you to a curriculum specialist . They are set up to help !

For preschool I’d recommend not buying any curriculum. You know what your children need to learn. AbCs, numbers, small math, beginning hand writing, little spelling, simple reading. As long as time out of each day is designated to working with your child on at least a couple of these activities you will be fine. There are also Leapfrog movies you can purchase that are geared towards specific age groups and they are fantastic. I have two boys 2 and 3 and they both are proof that this works and I say this not to brag but they are further ahead than other kids their age group. Just work with them everyday. This was very helpful after seeing the curriculum because I was thinking maybe I needed to be doing something different. Hope to see another video of yours for Kindergarten.

Glad I checked this video out before purchasing. I've worked with this curriculum in the past and loved it, so now that I plan on Homeschooling my son, I immediately thought of it. Didn't know the Homeschool version of the Curriculum Guide didn't have lessons included.

I was considering getting the Abeka preschool curriculum for my soon to be 2 year old (we use Abeka for my older girls) but wasn’t sure. I did see your first video and am so glad for this follow up video because I still just wasn’t sure but after seeing this video I think I’m going to hold off and just do what I already was planning and will most likely look into the spectrum books you shared briefly in your original video. Thanks for sharing this follow up.

I was wondering about the 3 yr old workbooks and couldn’t decide based on the few sample pages on abeka’s website. Thanks for the flip through- I’ll stick to pre k workbooks on amazon instead for now. I appreciate the review; very helpful!

The Abeka curriculum is to teach how to follow directions and discipline. That is the purpose of the colors and shapes. Helps teachers take and keep control of their classroom and students. I taught from this curriculum for 10?years.

That makes sense. I knew it was a curriculum often used in Private Schools.

Thank you! Thank You! Thank You! I was desiring to begin tot schooling my almost 2 year old son and I found you! There are not a lot of UA-cam channels of mama's with young sons! Almost every video I find the mama has a young daughter, which I'm sure you know is a whole different ball game. My son is showing signs of speech delays and so I'm considering the Language Development Visuals you've mentioned (even though the price tag is hefty). Does the teacher's guide offer a schedule or some sort of order to teach them in?

So excited to see this video after just watching the 1st! We were planning to send our 3 year old to Christian preK and now we won’t be ... soooo trying to figure this all out... she already knows all her numbers, letters, shapes, sounds, etc so trying to see which curriculum is challenging enough for her & this is so helpful... (she has known most of that since 18 months & we didn’t even really work with her much at all) But she doesn’t know how to write at all yet ...so I’m kind of thinking about getting the 4 year old program for her (even though she just made 3 in March) Would you recommend maybe mixing & matching things from different programs? She doesn’t know the “extra” stuff about animals/insects & how they lay eggs and stuff like that, but she can identify all of them, etc ... Did you guys use the pre-K 4 with abeka? Or another program? Would love to see a review if you have what you did with him after the pre-K 3!
I finished watching this video a few more times, after commenting (I was distracted the first time lol)and I am thinking about just buying The animal flashcards and the langaguage development visuals.. then next year do the K4 academy enrollment. The videos and all the book are only $350 for the whole year which is super affordable to me, when you price out that the pre-k I was planning to send her to is $200/month for 2-2 hour days. (Which is actually way more affordable than others I have seen lol) But i was only sending her for socialization which wouldnt work out so well now 🙈 Thanks again for all the info and sorry for writing a BOOK! HAHA

Awesome! That was the same with my son. He knew letters and sounds by 18 months (Thank you Leap Frog DVD's!🤣). We didn't use Abeka for 4's and don't plan to use them again (For anything at any level). I've just found things we like better.
I will be making video of what we used for my son (and will for my daughter) for Pre-K 3/4 .
For handwriting, look into Handwriting without Tears! It's way cheaper than Abeka, and teaches the strokes of the letters as opposed to writing on lines. We found this so much easier (my son would get really frustrated with the lined paper).

@@TheDovesNest I heard you say something about that program but i have never heard of it. I will look into that one for sure, that shoulds like a better approach for her also. Thanks so much! Cant wait to check out the nex video when you share it! =) Luckily we have a year to decide on K4 haha!

Christina DePino For the years a research curriculum before we used it, I didn’t want to use it because I thought the font was ugly🤣 but it really has been amazing. I talk a lot about it in my homeschooling during a pandemic video if you’re interested

My child is three. She recently tested as 4 years old academically at age 4. I chatted with customer service and they gave me a link suggesting K4. I felt she could handle the work, so I was really excited to start this fall. I did some research to see what will be ahead in K5 and I found out a child needs to be 5 years old to start the K5. My daughter would finish K4 when 4years old and would have to wait for almost a year to start K5. I’m hoping they allow me to cancel. I would rather piece a curriculum together until she is four, so we can move right into K5.

For preschool, there are definitely less expensive options. You might look into an Abeka Buy/Sell/Trade group on Facebook and maybe you can find them used?

How is the diversity as far a race goes? My daughter is biracial and has darker skin, it’s important to me that not the characters, people are all white in skin color.

    • @TheDovesNest
      @TheDovesNest  4 роки тому +3

I mean, the animal Alphabet Friends are all animals, so race isn't a thing.. The topics covered in the LDV are again, mostly animals and places... There are cards pertaining to white people (Thomas Edison for example) but there is also a card on Africa, and Eskimos, as well as Countries from around the world. And in the Card about God Made Me, there are children of multiple skin colors.
