Narrated by Stephen Fry, "The Rhapsody" is the astonishing story of composer Leo Spellman featuring a musical masterpiece lost for more than fifty years, a secret wartime diary revealed for the first time and a harrowing tale of survival told through animation. It also features powerful live concert performances and an uplifting return to the Polish town where Spellman spent eighteen terrifying months in hiding from the Nazis during World War II, fuelled by fear, heroic resistance and raw guts.
Directed by David Hoffert and produced by Brenda Hoffert, David Hoffert, Paul Hoffert and Jeff Preyra, The Rhapsody had its world premiere in Toronto in July 2022 to an enthusiastic, sold out audience and rave reviews. It has since been shown in several festivals including Miami, Australia and Hong Kong, where it won Best Documentary.
