Pro-Q 4's spectral option also lets you enhance the select resonances with two saturation options which means you can bring our harmonics and still "sooth" them by sweetening and/or softening those frequencies.
Killed it and buried it along with a few other plugins. But the best feature is the sidechain on the spectral dynamics kick and bass, you just select the low shelf filter on bass and it finds the frequencies where the kick is and just lowers the bass like magic, + the sidechain of high frequencies for the bass and the kick for lead instruments to achieve expression only on the frequencies where they are.🖤
Just tried Pro-Q 4 but the spectral dynamics are not as surgical or effective as Soothe2. They are definitely a welcome addition, but if you use Soothe2 a lot, I don't think it will be replaced any time soon.
I'm super excited for Pro-Q4 because I've been looking for a spectral EQ but have never been able to justify the $200 price tag for Soothe. This kind of just shows up out of nowhere at a time I'm *specifically* feeling the lack of having a spectral EQ, and FabFilter is a brand I've already invested quite heavily in so it was a quick choice to make the upgrade. My favorite feature is the sidechaining option, that way I can carve out space for leads or other elements in a really transparent way. On top of that, like you mention it doesn't obliterate my CPU like other options do. The saturation settings are awesome, too -- Pro-Q 4 is a giant upgrade and a lot of the new features are really exciting.
It is a new plugin from Fabfilter - so I bought it immediately. They are all extremely good. I always said that if I was only able to keep one plugin it would have been Pro Q3. Now it is Pro Q4.
Glad I never bought any sooth type plugins. Got Q4 for 50 quid on the upgrade. I love the list view. I'm looking forward to starting a fresh tune and using it properly on everything.
Soothe 2 is still superior in resonances suppressing. And SpecCraft even more. Y'all acting like you know shit when you taste a demo version of what has already been on the market for some time.
@@Corpsegrinder_69I didn't act like I knew anything. I do have reso from a mastering the mix bundle, I don't know how it stacks up to soothe though. Not really looked into it.
@@Chris-x7i5o Yeah, he's acting like an entitled brat. Don't mind him. Reso is just meh compared to Soothe2, it's decent; but Soothe2/SpecCraft/DSEQ3 are better, with Soothe2 having the easiest learning curve/best UI/UX.
Pro Q3 has been all over my mixes for several years now. I love FabFilter stuff and purchasing the upgrade to Pro Q4 was something I did without even trying the demo first. 🙂
Does it allow spectral sidechain like Soothe ? And also is there a delta buton to listen what it's removing (not just the frequency area where it's working like the little headphone does) ?
its neither A or B, sometimes u leave them , sometimes u dont. one of the major differences between digital and analog is resonances , they give the sound its character, but too much of them give that unpleasant ringing sound, they are a delicate element in making music
people that use soothe in its most basic way would see that this fabfilter feature as a killer (and nothing is wrong with that , its called having a workflow) but the people that use the advanced features that soothe offers, they would see this fabfilter feature as a filler rather than a killer . so its neither a killer or not. depends on whos using it
One of the things I’d do in the past is heavily soothe an area (like too much) then boost up that region with EQ, giving you that band back but with the resonant frequencies tamed. Probably a lot easier to do this now with pro q 4
SpecCraft > Soothe > Q4 ... for resonance suppression. All it takes to know this is stick head out of own's arse and study those plugins in depth. I know, impossible for 95 % of youtube commenters.
@@Corpsegrinder_69 Yeah, SpecCraft is better than Soothe2, but not as intuitive and a longer learning curve, Soothe2 is almost drag & drop. I'm currently replacing SmartEQ:4 / Sonnox Claro with Pro-Q 4 + SplitEQ/Soothe2/Bloom (or Gulffoss, both have different tonalities, but Bloom is more granular. Izotope spectral stuff is just alright imo. I also have Spiff, I like SplitEQ better, but switch it now and then). Gotta dedicate a few days to learn SpecCraft better (I do have DSEQ3, Soothe2, Waves EQuator, SpecCraft and a whole bunch of plugins -I don't recommend buying many plugins unless you work and earn from the music industry or have enough to spend as a hobbyist).
@@beatsandstuff No, SpecCraft is just as intuitive. You are confusing being used to something and rusty to do things slightly differently with a steep curve. SpecCraft is as simple and understandable as it gets. And if it isn't for you, you need literally 5 minutes tops with the manual or 1 youtube video, but vast majority of people are unwilling to learn and settle for average things in their life. And you are right, you seem to have too many plugins for the same tasks. Spend more time learning the tools and spend less on all those plugins. Just a friendly advice.
@@Corpsegrinder_69 Nah, I get sent plugins for free since I'm in the industry. You know what's harder to do in music than reading the manual? Money, just some friendly advice (for your passive-aggressive comment, I'm matching your vibe).
I still think it’s a great plugin and I’m for sure gonna be reaching for it, but now there’s another plugin that many people can get very cheap with upgrade pricing that can do similar
@jamalcole1985 it basically has the same settings bro I don't know if you've used TDR Nova before there's a free version and the settings are pretty simple the queues are not as precise as the gentleman edition and the gentleman edition has a lot of features packed in but it looks like the pro Q4 will allow you to set more ques but if you need to make that many cues you might as well just have one that's stretching across that frequency range, but this is a good video not trying to take away from the reason he even made this
so sad to say its not definitely doesn't kill the resonances like a proper spectral processor does so sad mehn I was actually trying so hard to like the spectral processing but the eq is still goated tho
it's not true. Soothe dynamically tames peaks just as pro-q4 spectral dynamics, there's no difference except the amount of control over sharpness - soothe is able to get broader and with less bands when the sharpness is set very low. But Pro-Q4 can also enhance those peaks while soothe can only cut + you can have many bands with different settings on each band while on Soothe you're stuck to one setting on all bands in on instance of the plugin
I bought Pro Q3 a few weeks ago and Fabfilter gave me ProQ4 for free. Now I have both.
That’s awesome
That's a good policy that!
same
They will give it for free if you bought it in the last 3 months !
Also they give a 50% reduction if you were a previous q3 owner
Yeah me too
how many lives has Soothe ?
how many times are they going to kill him?
what number of killer is this?

Commenting because this demo sounds so good wtf. Almost sounds like Fox Stevenson.

AMAZING review
I don’t think it’s the soothe 2 killer. People can pick up Waves Curves Equator for $39 and it’s almost as good. Great review! Thanks

Haven’t found the equivalent to the delta button if it exists yet

I never used a spectral compressor. Resonances are not bad.

Fab pro Q is my Bae 😻😻
I almost want to try a “serial” method of using both pro q4 and soothe 2 one after the other, in a way where they don’t have to work as hard.

No. This is in no way a Soothe2 replacer. When Soothe3 comes, everyone will realize they got robbed... Better off with SpecCraft for now.
What do you think they will add? My like eq features so you can regain a it of what you've taken away if u know what i mean
Girl in the Fire 🔥
Is it still heavy on the CPU?
It’s extremely lightweight
Enabling spectral mode adds latency as then the band is linear phase.
Pro-q 4 looks good value, but soothe 2 sounds better in every example I've heard so far for cutting resonances.
I agree. I do think I'll use the Pro-Q 4 feature for some things but for vocals I'll still go with Soothe 2.
So glad I never went to buy Soothe, this is EXACTLY what I need for my tearout and lofi bass projects
