  • Audio will be fixed next video. Today's video is centered on the question on if people should disregard the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Love your videos! I have been a subscriber for a while now. One thing I would like to see is cutting some of the pauses out of the video. I think this would help shorten the video to increase retention without cutting any of the content.

A lot of episodes can be skipped by the normies. But there are several that need to be watch for future reference.
    Encounter at Farpoint
Where No One Has Gone Before
    Datalore
    The Big Goodbye
11001001 (which most don't realize, but it explains all the very unusual things that happened with the holodeck throughout the series from that point on)
    Conspiracy

David, I'm not sure where you are in your YT creator journey, but I hope you continue. The writing on your thoughts was good, and I agreed with much of what you said. My favorite second season is Measure of a Man. That said, some comments on your video. The audio hum was brutal and over 80% of your video. This can be a bad audio interface, or something in the room causing it. Second was the echo. Most people cannot treat their room, but some things like pillows or mattresses against 1 wall can help. Even "loose" fabric can be a cheap sound absorption. Third was looking off-camera constantly. Either do the video in VO with clips/animation and stills like you partly did, or find a way to look at the camera and connect with your audience. Both work well like Spacedock and Rowan J Coleman. Finally, your narrative groups were solid and you hit specific episode points. Pause/breathe between them, or punch/flash them like Trek Culture does. Keep it up with some light improvements and you'll grow your audience. Sincerely, someone who has critically viewed and distributed content for over 25 years.

A note on the "echo". It sounds like a phasing issue, but it really is your voice bouncing off the wall over your shoulder and back to your mic. Then if you add the 50+ reflections that may happen in a room of plain painted drywall, it creates a big issue for the audience to listen through. Minimizing it with music does not fix it. Again, keep it up. You're worth listening to.

I appreciate the feedback! Thanks for checking out the channel. I did have some audio trouble for this video, but it'll be fixed by the next one. I really didn't want to use the audio you're hearing in this video but I just wanted to get this out. Also, I do need to work on looking up at the camera more often. I usually have notes next to me whenever I'm talking, so I'll try to move those to a better spot.

I agree with the common idea that the show didn’t hit its stride until the 3rd season, but I do enjoy the sort of sober tone of the first season.

You should see it once...but yeah, there's not much rewatchability, and the first 3 episodes are really difficult to get through.

There are some bad episodes in there. I don't know what they were thinking with Code of Honor.

As an avid Star Trek fan, I know it’s got some weaknesses, but if you are watching it for the first time, don’t skip anything. If you are rewatching it, that’s up to you.

Answer to the video title is NO! It is not the best season but there are great building elements in in and I do love Far Point.

I remember when I used to think Star Treck was for older people.

My only issue with the first two seasons is a large amount of cringy moments between the crew. But every time I get the urge to skip the first two seasons because of that fact I'm glad I do watch it because there are so many solid episodes and important episodes that setup the rest of the series.

I do think that because of the show's plot centric approach for its first season or so, not much attention was paid to the interactions between the characters.

i believe it should be watched to see how the show evolved
and even though the first season is weak....it's still better than any nu-trek

Nu-trek is very unwatchable for me. I've tried to give it a fair shot, but it's nowhere close to how good 90s Trek was.
