The "ghoul" that you refer to is Mikio Fujioka. He was a wonderful guitarist, a devotee of Alan Holdsworth and the "God of Smiles" (also known as the "Little God"). He tragically died of injuries suffered from a fall from an observation platform, where he was star gazing with his family... yes, his children saw this happen. Many believe that "Starlight" is a tribute to him, and maybe the entire "Trilogy of Lights" is inspired by his passing. He will forever be missed.
You guessed right, Su-metal was born in 1997 and this concert was to celebrate her 16th birthday. The story here goes roughly like this: In order to prevent Doomsday, the chosen of the fox god will sacrifice her mortal existence to become a goddess of metal. In not band lore terms, this concert closed out the year that Babymetal separated from the idol school Sakura Gakuin and became independent, so in a way the idol personas they had built up until then ceased to exist and only Su-metal, Moametal and Yuimetal remained. The "Doomsday" event that Su just ascended for is the Budokan concerts, I believe. You'd be surprised how many people don't actually pick up on them spelling out Babymetal. There's a big play on words at the heart of this song, which was their standard opening number for a long time. Native Japanese speakers can't pronounce "th", so they end up saying "death" as "dess", which makes it sound exactly like "desu", which turns "Su-metal death" into "Su-metal desu", which means "I am Su-metal" and "Babymetal Death" (the actual song title) becomes "We are Babymetal". So it's a song of introductions. In this case it ended the concert. They only crucify Su-metal on special occasions. Pause as much as you need to. Babymetal fans are used to it. You might get the occasional complaint, but the reality is that Amuse does not have a light touch on the copyright stuff, so this kind of thing is absolutely necessary outside of a few safe-ish videos. Channels that pause semi-frequently seem to have the highest success rate in my experience. Rewinding by a few seconds after each pause may also help? Unclear.
@@rantingrodent416 OK, so you are saying they are referring in this intro to Budokan show ? You might be right, because wasn't Budokan: Legend Doomsday ? And if I'm not mistaken it was announced at the end of this show.
Babymetal Desu..translates to "We are Babymetal. However, the "U" is silent so Babymetal "Dess" is what you hear. Desu said with the tongue forward between the teeth sounds like the English word "Death" Get the pun here?? Babymetal loves 'Word Play'!! And there are more...LoL!! Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!
Chels: *sarcastically* "Yeah, cause people wanted us to watch this to watch someone get crucified. I'm gonna say no." Us: *whistles while awkwardly looking away*
(Translation of the lore in front of this performance.) Legend 1997 It is the story that, receiving the legendary corset from the god of the Metal, she abandons being human and shall be reborn as a goddess. The gene which has been determined from ancient time is destined to be guided, boarding on the ark of time. The apocalypse prophesied the DOOMSDAY. Towards it, there remains... little time.. . Koba Metal, creator of BabyMetal is a huge X-Japan and Metallica fan. This concert Legend 1997 (Dec 21, 2013) coincide with Su Metal's birthday on Dec 20. The same year both BabyMetal became independent from idol group Sakura Gakuin and Su Metal graduated in March. So this crucifixion is symbolizing the end of Su Metal's life as an idol to become a full time Metal Queen. The breaking and collapse statue is an homage to Metallica "And Justice For All" live concert, where the Lady of Justice statue breaks, just like the Goddess statue breaks at the end of this performance., also shows the end of her idol life/persona. #notacult
Good reaction - bummer about 'Road of Resistance', but that one in particular seems to have been targeted a lot for blocking in recent months for some reason (or for no good reason). Some people have got it unblocked or avoided the block by putting a watermark over the video or obscuring it in some way. So 'BABYMETAL Death' (and nearly all this has already been said in the comments, so don't bother reading any further if you don't want to, but I have it all ready copied and ready to be pasted, so I may as well add it): #notacult So how did you celebrate your 16th birthday? This is where we all realised 3 Japanese teenage girls were more 'metal' than any of us ever were or will be. There is a translation of the intro video in the description which would have helped a bit with understanding what was happening. "Legend 1997. (referring to the year of Su's birth - good spot, nobody picks up on that as a rule) It is told that receiving the legendary neck brace from the god of Metal, she shall abandon her human life and be reborn as a goddess. The bloodline which has been passed down from ancient times is destined to be the guide, boarding the ark of time. The apocalypse is prophesied DOOMSDAY comes There remains... little time.." Basically this show was the final step in BABYMETAL transitioning from Idol group sub-unit to independent metal band - it was also Su-metal's final step in her transition from J-Pop Idol - she was sacrificing her human existence and life as a J-Pop Idol to be reborn as a Metal Goddess chosen to lead the Metal Resistance. 'BABYMETAL Death' was the first track on the first album and was most often used as the show opener (without the crucifixion) - it is the perfect introduction - that is what the lyrics are:- "B - A - B - Y - M - E - T - A - L Death Death Death Death Death Death. Su-metal death. Yuimetal death. Moametal death. BABYMETAL death. Death Death Death Death Death Death." It is a play on words. There is no 'TH' sound in Japanese, so to a Japanese speaker death sounds like desu (the U is silent) spoken with a slight lisp. Desu means "To be - I am - you are - we are - it is" etc ... so in Japan you might introduce yourselves as "Mat and Chels React desu" (we are Mat and Chels React). All they were doing throughout the song was introducing themselves by name and introducing BABYMETAL by name - and 'death' is just the sort of thing you'd expect to be chanted by a self respecting metal band and their audience while the lead singer is crucified. There were a couple of homages in this performance too. The opening drum beat is an homage to Metallica's 'One' (once again you were absolutely correct) and the statue crumbling at the end pays homage to Metallica's Justice For All tour of 1989 where they also had a statue (Justice) crumble at the end of their shows. The neck brace is a tribute to X Japan drummer/pianist/songwriter/composer Yoshiki who damaged his neck so badly headbanging that he has to wear a neck brace most of the time, especially when performing. On special occasions 'BABYMETAL Death' was used later in the show - Legend 1997 was the title of the show celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday ... and they only crucify Su on special occasions. So far that has happened 5 times, the last was at Legend S in December 2017 to help her celebrate her 20th birthday - and that one had extra flames. Did I mention? #notacult
@@crimson0119 I agree, I do try to tell people to do that when I recommend it or when I see it has been recommended ... I don't think anybody has taken any notice of me so far. lol
@@Grington300 Well, between watching the Unhelpful Guide, and reading your comments and the comments of Rick Wagner, I pretty get all the details of Babymetal songs without having to google the info myself. Thnx for the education.
Good reaction! This is the ending of Legend 1997. They do a presentetion of them self with Su, Yui and Moa. I love this endig! They say Su-metaro-desu, Yuimetaro-desu, Moametaro-desu and Babymetaro-desu with no sounding u in desu. Desu is japanese for "is". Metaro is japanese for metal so in english they say like"I am Su-metal", "We are Babymetal"... 🤘🦊😊 Greetings from Sweden!
They actually only saying BABYMETAL DES SU-METAL DES ETC DES=DESU IN TOKYO ONLY DES IS USE INSTEAD OD DESU THIS MEANS I AM OR WE ARE THE GIRLS HAVE BEEN PERFORMING THIS SONG FOR ALONG TIME SS AN OPENING SONG ALSO THEY EXPLAINED THIS MEANING IN MANY INTERVIEWS
Yeah after watching this, reacting to that UA-cam “documentary” might be worthwhile to really know some of the story, including some of the stuff happening here.
Bahaha You guys are fun to watch. Matt's face when Chels paused during the solo. lol Good stuff guys. I really don't mind pauses, especially if it gets past the blockers. Always a good idea to back it up a few seconds like yall normally do.
The BABYMETAL lore/storyline is that the "Fox God" chose these 3 girls to unite the world through metal. This concert is the day after Su's 16th birthday...so it is her sweet 16 celebration in the real world, but in the BABYMETAL "storyline" it is time for her to abandon her human life and be reborn as a metal goddess (as stated in the animated intro). In the real world she is also leaving the pop idol life (leaving the pop idol group, Sakura Gakuin, that she just graduated from) and live the metal life by being only in BABYMETAL. As for the religious symbols used, such as the crosses and the statue that almost looks like the Virgin Mary statue but actually has an Asian face (some say it's Su, the lead singer's, face), they are not meant to have any religious or Christian meaning in this performance and are just used as an homage to old classic heavy metal theatrics. That statue which crumbles at the end is an homage to Metallica, and the neck brace is an homage to a Japanese metal band, X Japan, who's drummer broke or injured his neck from headbanging too much. #notacult 🦊🤘
The best comment that I ever read about this video (not my comment): Moa, "Oh no! Su has collapsed! What should we do?" Yui, "Let's crucify her!" Moa, "Sweet!"
> "I never knew a person's fingers can move this quick..." Well... Kirk Hammett once said about Mikio Fujioka (RIP): "He is one of the nastiest shredders I ever had the pleasure to met!" P.S.: Yes, this clearly is a reference to Metallica's "One". also the statue in the background is a Metallica-reference. You have to know that KOBAMETAL, the producer and mastermind behind BABYMETAL, is a lifelong Metallica-fan.
Don't worry about pausing and rewinding! BABYMETAL fans understand and are use to it. "Road of Resistance" is one of the songs that gets blocked instantly or taken down eventually....but what most reactors have to do is either blur the performance video, cover it up with a logo/picture, or cut out/chop up the parts that Amuse wants blocked. Some reactors will put up 2 versions of the reaction video....one that is normal but gets blocked in Japan and other countries, and another one that is blurred or chopped up so Japan, etc can see it. Also I have noticed that some BABYMETAL videos that don't get blocked or taken down have part of the performance video cut off like it went too far out of the reaction video frame (usually the bottom) and I think having the performance video even smaller in the reaction video helps too. But no matter what, I am sorry you have to deal with the issues caused by the company. I hope you guys enjoyed the video though!
The neck collar that Moa put on Su is in homage to Yoshiki, drummer & main song writer for XJapan. XJapan is the greatest metal band you likely have never heard of. Yoshiki damaged his neck from his violent headbanging while drumming. His doctors required him to wear a neck collar while performing. Making the neck collar a metal symbol in Japan. Yoshiki met with the girls prior to their concert at Wembley Arena, the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley. XJapan was scheduled to be the first o perform at Wembley, but they fell apart and never made it.. Oh, Babymetal broke the records for band merchandise sold at Wembley!!
It's word play. In Japanese, to say "I am *NAME*", you say "*NAME* + Desu, however in Desu the 'U' is silent. This sounds like "Death" and this song is a Deathmetal track. This is also one reason for the crucifixion theme.
⚡ 💀 💕 / 💀 💀 💀 You're totally right about 1997 being someone's year of birth, but 'Legend 1997' is the concert not the song title. The actual song title is 'BABYMETAL Death'. The full concert name is Legend "1997" Su-metal Seitansai (Holy Birthday). 'Legend 1997' is fine for short. : ) Kami Band members for this song were guitarists Mikio Fujioka (RIP) and Leda Cygnus. BOH was on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. This song was usually used as an opener, not the closing number like this time. It's also usually much shorter, and doesn't include a crucifixion. : )
First off, I'm a, Religious people, and I like it. It doesn't bother me a bit. I think it's awesome. Despite what some may think, we don't run around throwing holy water on everything while speaking in tongues. Good guess about 1997 being a birth year. Almost no one gets that. Also, not everyone gets that they are spelling B A B Y M E T A L. A lot of people assume everything is in Japanese so aren't really hearing it.
The 'neck brace" is related to a theme for this show and was also used in Headbanger. The audience got these neck braces as well and, during the show they were timed to the music and lit to be part of of the show
Babymetal are big Metallica fans, and this performance has several nods to Metallica. The initial riff is from One, and the Statue behind them is a nod to "And Justice for All". Metallica are famous for doing instrumental songs (Orion, The Call of Ktalu, Suicide and Redemption), so this is more or less the same, but with a theatrical performance on top of it in special occasions. Regularly, they opened with this song, since the few lyrics basically mean "We are Babymetal".
Pls react to “Headbanger” or “Rondo of Nightmare (Mischief of Gods intro)” (live versions) by BABYMETAL next! Or, do the “Unhelpful Guide to Babymetal” because that won’t get blocked lol
I guess this is one song that needs an explanation first. If you knew what was going on I'm sure you would appreciate it more, the problem is, we have to be creative about that explanation so we don't give away too much. :)
If you are referring to that early version of "Headbanger", that is the premeir of the Kami Band, although none of the same musicians have played with BM since that Episode. That is one of the best performances of "Headbanger", IMHO. That drummer kicks ass!
pause ? the only pause me saw is at the solo part. if you have question or someone asking what they doing in this video the answer is yes , this is Su-Metal 16th birthday party .... just a birthday party and just to point out we are #notacult
The neckbrace is a homage to the x japan drummer who had to get neck surgery for his intense drumming. Babymetal used it alot and can be seen on the official headbanger video

My 16th birthday was nothing like this!! This is where SU-METAL became our METAL GODDESS QUEEN and an IDOL LEGEND. If you ask the girls who is there musical influence, they will say with a big smile METALLICA. Metallica showed them how amazing metal music can be, and the girls respect them a lot. If you google METALLICA & BABYMETAL you will see some cool pics of them together and the time BABYMETAL opened up for METALLICA. BABYMETAL dreamed of some day opening up for the legendary metal group Metallica that dream came true at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. As one might expect from the trio, they absolutely rocked the stage! Kicking off Metallica's Seoul show on January 11, 2017, BABYMETAL opened the night with an explosive 6-song set. #BABYMETAL earned ¥1.097 billion for 107,500 tickets sold on tour making them the #1 female artist in Japan and second in the biggest touring market in industry of year 2019. They are also the most successful female group in history with no sexy concept Congratulations
Whoever posted these Legend 1997 videos should consider changing the titles 😅. The titles of this and the 'Headbanger' performances give the impression that Legend 1997 is part of the song title. Song name is 'Babymetal Death' (not just Death) and the concert is Legend 1997. There's barely any vocals cause it's an intro to Babymetal. It was the last song in this show for the theatrics and whatnot, but it's usually the opener and it's also the opener of their first album. The meaning has been covered already, so...nice reaction. You should check out 'Headbanger' from the same show - Legend 1997. It's also quite heavy and there's a good amount of vocals this time.
this performance is dedicated to the birthday of Suzuki Nakamoto, the lead vocalist. She was born in 1997. There are also legends of 1999, dedicated to the birthdays of two other girls. -What present do you want for your birthday, Suzuka? -I want to be crucified on the cross by my best friends, to the sounds of death metal ! -...... ok...
The official lyric really consists of only the above one line. Maybe the staff thought too many "DEATH"s are inappropriate. The Japanese word "desu" (です) is a copula (= to be). The Eastern Japanese almost drop "u" of this word, so the word "desu/des" sounds like "death". And someone started writing "DEATH" instead of "です" (desu). It makes sense only where the Japanese word "desu" is expected to come. The title "BABYMETAL DEATH" means only "We are BABYMETAL." No relation to the death itself. du-metal.blogspot.com/2013/09/babymetal-deth.html
It's official videos that get blocked. The live concert videos posted by regular users are safe. Like this one. But if getting one video blocked makes you give up then IMO good riddance. I never recommend Road of Resistance because it is frequently blocked.
Well spotted on the Metallica riff at the start - The One, I think? Also, the statue is a bow to Metallica's Justice For All statue. Metallica got them their first Metal festival slot outside Japan (here's the finale from that show, in front of 65,000 Metal heads, ( ua-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/v-deo.html ) aged 15 and 16, kicking serious ass and showing why Rob Zombie said to one of his fans who dissed him for liking Babymetal "They roll harder than you") and Babymetal have thanked them many times for getting them into Metal. The lyrics here are B-A-B-Y-M-E-T-A-L Desu (pronounced 'des', silent 'u', meaning 'I am/We are') and, as they like to play with words and sounds, it became Babymetal Death. We always like to tell reactors that we are not a cult when they watch this. It's just a joke, though, all the cult stuff. Because The One are definitely not members of some sort of cult where girls are crucified on their 16th birthday to symbolise their transition from human to Goddess while thousands of acolytes chant "Death! Death! Death!". (#NotaCult, #DefinitelyNotaCult, #NoSeriouslyItsNotACult, #AnyoneSayingWeAreACultWillBeSacrificedToTheFoxGod)
"Desu" (dess) roughly means "I am" or "it is". They are introducing themselves and then saying "We are Babymetal" or "It's Babymetal" while also making wordplay with "death" (Babymetal Death, the title)
Nice reaction they use to open shows with this song to hype up the crowds but that particular show they ended it with it it was Su-metals 16 birthday. The crucifixion was her giving up her J-pop life to become metal goddess the neck brace was to harness the energy to do so something along those lines
You ALMOST got it right. The actual name of the song is "BABYMETAL DEATH". It's a pun with English because "Death" sounds like "Desu" in Japanese which is a form of describing someone or something. For example if your name is John. You would say John desu. It sounds a bit like "death". It means "I am John" or "This is John". Basically the song's meaning is "This is BABYMETAL" or "We are BABYMETAL". They do chant "DEATH" or "DESU" at the end. This song was used for several years as an intro to their concerts and would get the fans riled up and full of energy for the remainder of the shows. It would also prove to the newcomers (for example when they opened for Korn during their 2017 tour, some people only came in for Korn and thought BABYMETAL was going to be a bit too poppy and bubblegum for their ears, but they would all be struck in awe at the heaviness of BABYMETAL right as they started their show :D). The lyrics are pretty much it. The girls take turns saying "SU-METAL Death" - "YUIMETAL Death" - "MOAMETAL Death" - "BABYMETAL Death". And if you remember during the song, the girls also pointed at the crowd and toward eachother, to make sure the fans knew that they themselves were part of BABYMETAL and what it represents. BABYMETAL always acknowledges that without its fans, it wouldn't be BABYMETAL. During interviews, the girls would also always say these words to introduce themselves in a cutesy way. The word DEATH is like a fun counter-part of their cuteness and underlines that they're also very much Metal. They love a pun ;). Also, good catch on the "One" reference at the beginning. It is definetly a nod to Metallica. Another nod is when the statue breaks down just like it did during the "And Justice for All" tour. ;) I think that's what this song is about though. It's to make those people who say that they aren't heavy eat their words. It's telling the naysayers "so you're saying we're too poppy ? Too cutesy ? Right we CAN do Metal. Watch this." I'm actually glad you were a bit disappointed it didn't have much of the girls in it. Shows it's starting to grow on you :)
By reading this the description for the video first you would know what the intro was all about. Saves time for you when doing these reactions and does not take away from the first time listening experience.
It was a tribute to Metallica, one of Babymetal's favorite bands, it's from One. Also, remember they are Japanese it doesn't mean they same thing to them. She is being reborn into the Metal Queen.
Desu means to be in japanese. so at the begining first spoken words i think they were presenting themselves (at least if they were they would say like Su-metal desu) as in 'i'm su metal' as a direct translation, but also used in the sence of Su-metal present or su metal is here. I couldn't make out the words they were shouting in front of it but each of them were different and said by different singer that's what makes met hink they were just announcing themselves
That was totally an homage to Metallica. The statue behind them is a bit of a nod to the 'And justice for all' album cover too. The girls have a super-cute of a history with Metallica: www.loudersound.com/features/what-happened-when-babymetal-went-head-to-head-with-metallica-in-seoul

The concept of the vid has to be understood. Death of an idol princess , to birth of the metal goddess. The opening of this is translated in the video description. Don't be lazy next time . 😂😂
If you want to see the Kamis in high gear, you need Babymetal - Tales of the Destinies (Tokyo Dome) www.youtaker.com/video/svb5-936bfa4f5790404184302efb1471500b85.html Surprised I found this copy...it's hard to find.
The translation of the intro is in the description of the video, I don't know why people who recommend the song don't mention this. It explains a lot of what's going on, lore wise. I actually think BABYMETAL Death is only suggested these days for the shock effect, even though it tells a good and important story. It would also clarify that it has nothing to do with religion itself. The vast majority of Japanese people aren't religious, so as long as it makes for a good show they don't really give a damn if some other part of the world could be offended because they misunderstand the intention behind the performance. References in the performance: Intro, Metallica - One. Statue in the background, Metallica - ...and Justice for All tour and album cover. Neckbrace, Yoshiki, drummer and songwriter of X Japan, needed to wear a neckbrace on stage because of permanent neck damage sustained from too much headbanging. Crucifixion, Idol Suzuka Nakamoto as an on stage performer gets sacrificed and resurrected as Su-metal, the Metal goddess. It basically means: Su had to graduate the school-themed J-Pop Idol group Sakura Gakuin, which BABYMETAL was a sub-group of since it's foundation in 2010, so BABYMETAL became an independent group. Moa & Yui remained part of Sakura Gakuin until their graduation in March 2015 (you need to leave, or graduate, when you graduate from real life middle school (age 15, 9th grade)). Even though many people dispute it, they're essentially still Idols, at least in front of cameras. So it was actually more like Suzuka Nakamoto the performer ceased to exist and only the character of Su-metal remains when it comes to public life and appearances. To the solo, Kami Band guitarist Takayoshi Ohmura (who didn't play it in this performance, that was Mikio Fujioka) said a few years back in an interview that this solo is the most difficult guitar part to play in any BABYMETAL song.
So this is kind of a joke song. Its super dark because it makes the punch line more funny. So this is the intro song for the band (early on in there carear) The lyrics are B-A-B-Y M-E-T-A-L death (desu) Su-Metal Desu (death) Yui-Metal Desu (death) Moa-Metal Desu (death) Babymetal Desu (death) Desu is used in japanese when introducing yourself and roughly translates to "I am" So they are basically saying I am Su Metal I am Yui Metal I am Moa Metal We are Babymetal Its just them introducing the band. However Desu sounds roughly similar to Death in english. So the joke is they are introducing there Heavy Metal band while also screaming Death the entire time. Its just an example of Gap Moe. Finding the cute between whats expected and what you end up with. So the darker it is, the funnier the joke is. Because they are actually just being polite and telling you the band name for 5 minutes.
Nice reaction!! ベビメタです(bebimeta desu) is "We are BABYMETAL". SU-METALです(sumetal desu) is "I am SU-METAL". In fact, since Japanese usually omits the subject. In fact it will be below. 私たち(watashitachi=we)はベビメタです。私(watasi=I)はSU-METALです。 "BABYMETAL" is also pronounced "bébíː métl", not "béibi métl". And in Japan the word is often abbreviated. ベビメタ(bebi meta) is an abbreviation for BABYMETAL. I hope you enjoy your BABYMETAL. Put your Kitsune🦊 up! from Japan. (Translation by DeepL)
This one should be watched with some pre-knowledge, pronounciation on death=desu=I am. Japanese culture differences. And translation for the story in beginning. Rexommending Rondo of Nightmare, with intro, for solos from the band, and Su's singing. That one shows their talents best. Other two girls taking a break during that song, Onedari Daisakusen for them without Su, as its her turn for a break.
They actually do like Babymetal if you’ve seen their other videos, but when you watch this out of nowhere, it’s always like “WTF is this?” Going into the “Guide to Babymetal” video afterwards really helps to understand a lot of why they do what they do. Then you appreciate it even more.

Some advice about BABYMETAL reactions: tl;dr: Don't use compilations for BABYMETAL, we have a better solution. Please don't rely solely on videos that are on UA-cam (mainly compilations); they're not meant to be used for reactions as the mix of concerts and generally bad editing can make it confusing for those new to BABYMETAL. Also, you won't get the full BABYMETAL experience with these. Some people think they are safer for reactions, but they're not. They may get past the bot initially, but you still stand the chance of your video being blocked later and the possibility of having copyright strikes. Some fans made a selection of "best" performances for each song; I would suggest using it for future BABYMETAL reactions. Here is the link : docs.google.com/document/d/1DqPsavocgGvCyZfUHvrkgJ5KZMaMkmMgjy2UxNNG96E/edit# You should note though, that your video will almost definitely be blocked if these are included in your video and that you will need to do what we call "link & sync". It's very easy and made easier with the help of Reactor Hub, a tool made for helping avoid blocks etc. We made a short tutorial on how to use it : drive.google.com/open?id=1X6hN2BdyKzFmVN9XMEo2M89hsKY0B-bnnHRVVMNY13w Using that you are safe from blocked videos and even future copyright strikes, since no copyright material is included in your video :). There is even a discord for Reactor Hub if you need any help discord.gg/cPrSypT. I'm hoping you will have fun with BABYMETAL in future reactions :).
Agree on everything you stated. Death is by far a song I wish BabyMetal had never done. I believe the powers that be at the time thought it would help legitimize BabyMetal with the Metal community. By the way if the reason you haven’t reacted to more BabyMetal since a year ago is because of blocking issues from Amuse I understand but am sorry but disappointed.

You guessed right, Su-metal was born in 1997 and this concert was to celebrate her 16th birthday. In not band lore terms, this concert closed out the year that Babymetal separated from the idol school Sakura Gakuin and became independent, so in a way the idol personas they had built up until then ceased to exist and only Su-metal, Moametal and Yuimetal remained. You'd be surprised how many people don't actually pick up on them spelling out Babymetal.
Unclear.
I would say her death/crucifixion was the doomsday it referred to.
@@autohmae hmm. isn't the symbol that is shown during the intro the symbol for the Budokan concerts, though?
@@rantingrodent416 OK, so you are saying they are referring in this intro to Budokan show ? You might be right, because wasn't Budokan: Legend Doomsday ? And if I'm not mistaken it was announced at the end of this show.
@@autohmaeYeah, exactly
Babymetal Desu..translates to "We are Babymetal.
However, the "U" is silent so Babymetal "Dess" is what you hear.
Desu said with the tongue forward between the teeth sounds like the English word "Death"

At least this isn't Legend S where they almost lit her on fire...During that portion...
Just another thing. The Neck brace is a homage to the drummer from X-Japan who broke his neck head banging.
(Translation of the lore in front of this performance.)
Legend 1997
It is the story that, receiving the legendary corset from the god of the Metal, she abandons being human and shall be reborn as a goddess.
So 'BABYMETAL Death' (and nearly all this has already been said in the comments, so don't bother reading any further if you don't want to, but I have it all ready copied and ready to be pasted, so I may as well add it):
#notacult So how did you celebrate your 16th birthday? This is where we all realised 3 Japanese teenage girls were more 'metal' than any of us ever were or will be.
There is a translation of the intro video in the description which would have helped a bit with understanding what was happening.
"Legend 1997. (referring to the year of Su's birth - good spot, nobody picks up on that as a rule)
It is told that receiving the legendary neck brace from the god of Metal,
she shall abandon her human life and be reborn as a goddess.
The bloodline which has been passed down from ancient times
is destined to be the guide, boarding the ark of time.
The apocalypse is prophesied
DOOMSDAY comes
There remains... little time.."
Basically this show was the final step in BABYMETAL transitioning from Idol group sub-unit to independent metal band - it was also Su-metal's final step in her transition from J-Pop Idol - she was sacrificing her human existence and life as a J-Pop Idol to be reborn as a Metal Goddess chosen to lead the Metal Resistance.
Death Death Death Death Death Death."
It is a play on words.
#notacult
Sometimes I wish, whenever people ask reactors react to Babymetal Death, to at least tell them to read the description first....hehehe

🤘🦊😊 Greetings from Sweden!
this is ending, not the opening in that concert
@@draculus666 Sorry, my bad!
They actually only saying

THE GIRLS HAVE BEEN PERFORMING THIS SONG FOR ALONG TIME SS AN OPENING SONG ALSO THEY EXPLAINED THIS MEANING IN MANY INTERVIEWS
I would love to see you two react to the Unhelpful guide to Babymetal... Quite a lot of people recently have been reacting to it.
What did you do on your 16th birthday Su? "I was crucified whilst thousands of people shouted Death Death Death!!!".
The best comment that I ever read about this video (not my comment):
Moa, "Oh no! Su has collapsed! What should we do?"
Yui, "Let's crucify her!"
Moa, "Sweet!"
> "I never knew a person's fingers can move this quick..."
Well... Kirk Hammett once said about Mikio Fujioka (RIP): "He is one of the nastiest shredders I ever had the pleasure to met!"
P.S.: Yes, this clearly is a reference to Metallica's "One". also the statue in the background is a Metallica-reference. You have to know that KOBAMETAL, the producer and mastermind behind BABYMETAL, is a lifelong Metallica-fan.
Your intro to Babymetal? So innocent. Little did you know how much we would all come to love them.
Su-Metal sacrificed herself so we could have metal, so it's not too much to ask that we put up with a few pauses.
Let's keep things in perspective 😊
It's word play.
In Japanese, to say "I am *NAME*",
you say "*NAME* + Desu, however in Desu the 'U' is silent. This sounds like "Death" and this song is a Deathmetal track.
This is also one reason for the crucifixion theme.
⚡ 💀 💕 / 💀 💀 💀
You're totally right about 1997 being someone's year of birth, but 'Legend 1997' is the concert not the song title.
The actual song title is 'BABYMETAL Death'.
The full concert name is Legend "1997" Su-metal Seitansai (Holy Birthday).
'Legend 1997' is fine for short. : )
Kami Band members for this song were guitarists Mikio Fujioka (RIP) and Leda Cygnus.
I'm religious and i disaprove this.
I wonder if there are more homages to metal in this, because the breakdown riff sounds similar to the intro of Fear of the Dark to me.
That was guitarist Mikio fujioka he wasn't making a face he just used to always smile a lot RIP..
The One understands pausing.

I saw a opening to a concert which I think was the following and su arrives on stage in a coffin as the rebirth as goddess of metall
If you are referring to that early version of "Headbanger", that is the premeir of the Kami Band, although none of the same musicians have played with BM since that Episode. That is one of the best performances of "Headbanger", IMHO. That drummer kicks ass!
In the Saitama Super Arena show in 2015, the same show as Road of Resistance Live in Japan, all 3 come down in coffins.

yes , this is Su-Metal 16th birthday party .... just a birthday party and just to point out we are #notacult
The neckbrace is a homage to the x japan drummer who had to get neck surgery for his intense drumming. Babymetal used it alot and can be seen on the official headbanger video
The neck-brace is part of babymetal lore, and they use it as a tribute to X Japan drummer who headbanged so hard he got a neck injury.
Happy Birthday, Su!

Oh! Thank you for clarifying, I was confused!
this performance is dedicated to the birthday of Suzuki Nakamoto, the lead vocalist.

Another nod is when the statue breaks down just like it did during the "And Justice for All" tour. ;)
I think that's what this song is about though. It's to make those people who say that they aren't heavy eat their words. It's telling the naysayers "so you're saying we're too poppy ? Too cutesy ? Right we CAN do Metal. Watch this."
I'm actually glad you were a bit disappointed it didn't have much of the girls in it.
"Let's get into to the cute", great comment!😂
all hail to our queen who offer his death as a j-pop idol so we can enjoy the rebirth into a metal queen goddess \m/
It sounded like a metallica intro, because this song is pretty much a metallica homage. Look for the exploding spotlights at the end as well.
I love reactors who make mention of Metallica when listen to this song.
"Bebimetaru-desu" (or "dess") means "We are Babymetal", and also sounds like "Babymetal Death" (the title of the song).
love how mat says "lets get into the cute".... than we watch death lol
How can something so cute be so terrifying! 🤘

Kami Band - The Hill of Wisteria (Tribute song to Mikio Fujioka)
I am a very happy BABYMETAL cult member. I proudly bow down at the feet of queen Su Metal! May the Fox God bless your reaction channel! 🦊🦊🦊🦊
_"Babymetal is not Metal."_ - Some Metal Head
So this is kind of a joke song. Its super dark because it makes the punch line more funny.
So this is the intro song for the band (early on in there carear)
The lyrics are
B-A-B-Y M-E-T-A-L death (desu)
Su-Metal Desu (death)
Yui-Metal Desu (death)
Moa-Metal Desu (death)
Babymetal Desu (death)
Desu is used in japanese when introducing yourself and roughly translates to "I am"
So they are basically saying
I am Su Metal
I am Yui Metal
I am Moa Metal
We are Babymetal
Its just them introducing the band.
They were inspired by Metallica if you noticed the BabyMetal logo has resemblance of Metallica logo
Please react to Babymetal - Headbanger live @ Legend 1997 Apocalypse. You will not be disappointed!
Nice reaction!! ベビメタです(bebimeta desu) is "We are BABYMETAL". SU-METALです(sumetal desu) is "I am SU-METAL". In fact, since Japanese usually omits the subject. In fact it will be below.
私たち(watashitachi=we)はベビメタです。私(watasi=I)はSU-METALです。
"BABYMETAL" is also pronounced "bébíː métl", not "béibi métl". And in Japan the word is often abbreviated. ベビメタ(bebi meta) is an abbreviation for BABYMETAL.
I hope you enjoy your BABYMETAL.

Some advice about BABYMETAL reactions:
tl;dr: Don't use compilations for BABYMETAL, we have a better solution.
Here is the link : docs.google.com/document/d/1DqPsavocgGvCyZfUHvrkgJ5KZMaMkmMgjy2UxNNG96E/edit#
You should note though, that your video will almost definitely be blocked if these are included in your video and that you will need to do what we call "link & sync". It's very easy and made easier with the help of Reactor Hub, a tool made for helping avoid blocks etc. We made a short tutorial on how to use it : drive.google.com/open?id=1X6hN2BdyKzFmVN9XMEo2M89hsKY0B-bnnHRVVMNY13w
Using that you are safe from blocked videos and even future copyright strikes, since no copyright material is included in your video :).

8:00 "religious people probably don't like this much" guys, you're watching heavy metal show, what do you expect?

Their intro on their first album. When you get crucified I’m guessing you don’t sing as much..
Watch the officel video for headbanger. You will get the neck brace.
