The coolest effect is when they are face to face with the dark background and his braids cross over with the movement of his head into the other space to make is look more like they are real. at the 13:30 mark.
A lot of people miss the actual message of this song. The message is this- In order to conquer your demons you have to build self-confidence. The chorus is about what he tells himself when his demons are the loudest.. Love this song and this message from Tom.
I would say the song has a double message about fighting your inner demons (mental health) but also building self confidence. Tom is showing that everyone suffers from their inner demons and that that battle is a constant struggle.

I love a LOT of Tom's music, but this one is hands down my favorite song and video. This song spoke to me, I've had these conversations with myself. When I get in a bad place I listen to it and it always gives me goosebumps. If you know then you know.
‼️PLEASE READ‼️ Toms story: Tom MacDonald is 100% independent! He’s had major record labels after him daily for at least 6 years and he turns them ALL down! After you listen to a few of his songs, especially the music industry and sad rappers, you’ll understand why. He writes all of his songs, makes his beats, and his girlfriend Nova Rockafeller shoots and edits all of his videos! That’s why dear rappers is so simplistic because they were just starting out really. He dabbled in bands and had managers in the past, but that’s why he struggled so much and that’s why he wasn’t as successful as he should’ve been until he wrote dear rappers. That’s after he had cut everybody out and started doing things his way on his time with no middleman! He spent about nine months battling crippling depression. He contemplated suicide several nights and he was a severe alcoholic! After what seemed to be an eternity, he spiritually came out of that depression and quit everything cold turkey, not only alcohol but also marijuana and certain anxiety medication. Tom quit EVERYTHING. 100% sober. NO drugs NO alcohol NO tobacco NO nothin but unbelievably amazing music & videos. He's an incredible human! Sad part is he never takes breaks to rest. He works himself to mental & physical illness pretty much. He works SOOOO hard and no doubt it shows so much in his insanely unbelievably incredible music. And Nova is super tired too. Not only does she make the videos but she makes music too. They've done music together as GFBF as well.
FYI this took number one on iTunes over Eminem’s entire new album the same week it dropped! He had this video ready and waiting for Eminem to drop just to see how he would compete!! The primary message behind this song and video is that if you see hate comments or someone says something directly to you that is negative you can’t let that overtake you and who you are. I find it so interesting to listen to your thoughts on the video itself. I've seen a number of good breakdown reactions to lyrics and music, but none that spend time on the video itself (or maybe I just haven't come across them?). Nova's filming and editing of this video surpasses what you see most studios do with most horror films. The combination of the song and the videography for this video made me have goosebumps throughout the whole song. "Evil Tom" is one scary mother-effer!

I enjoy this song because sometimes how I feel. Though of course not rapping just in life. Where life beats you down don't want to get out of bed but find your inner strength to keep going forward and yes a lot of times you would fight that demon of yours.
