how do you cut a hole inside the curtain?

Hey, I'll use the pen or pencil tool to draw an outline on top of the curtain how i would like to cut it out, then I select both the outline and the curtain at the same time then right-click and hit the "make clipping mask" button.
Everything inside the outline will be visible, everything outside the outline will be cut out. Hope the helps!
