How To Install Snow Chains

  • This video is meant to be a guide for installing snow chains. Please make sure to follow the chain and vehicle manufacture instructions.
    There are a few things to remember when installing snow chains. Get your vehicle to a safe, flat, spot away from traffic. Don't drive the vehicle over the recommended miles per hour on the chains or by the vehicle manufacture. We recommend to install the chains on the wheels that drive the vehicle (i.e. front wheel drive would call for the chains to be installed on the front wheels of the vehicle.) Don't allow any sharp components to be facing the rubber tire. Never install chains that are missing components or have any visual damage.
    When it comes to the installation of the chains, if you are unsure about any of the procedure, make sure to get professional help.
    We hope this helps and if it does, please click like on the video or subscribe for more informational videos!

    1.So first off flip the chains around do the ends left over slap the ground not stab the ground. The loose end could come free and stab the ground unlocking the chains.
    2. It nice to lay the chains down on dry pavement, but thats not when you need them. So, turn the tire, drape the chains over it, connect the back first at the bottom, make the chains straight across the tire, connect the front side. Drive forward slightly. Turn the wheel and tighten up the connection in the back then the front. Make sure there is no slack and the cables are straight across the tire. Drive for 30'. Get out and check to see if they need tightened. Then drive slow, no more than 35mph.

    The cable end with the stop blocks on it is supposed to lay through the slot and hole in the matching end clip, not get poked through the hole. I don't know why, but that is what the manufacturer says.

      Definitely do not poke the connector thru the hole. After watching this and having the cable fail, wrapping around my Axel and doing major damage- the mfg sent the actual way too connect these. The cable goes along the attaching row and clips in. Hard to explain, but I guess putting in Thru the hole can allow it to bounce out. Good luck

      Kristyn, it will take any slack out of the cable chains so they don't extend too far away from the tire and possibly damage your fender or fender liner. I would be sure to attach the rubber bungee.

    can you drive with snow chains when there's no snow out? for example i live 45 minutes from the mountain where there's snow, i would install the chains prior to hitting snow? is it safe to drive on regular freeways with no snow?

    • @apluseric123
      @apluseric123 6 років тому +10

      I agree with Ricky D. When driving on pavement with chains it could be dangerous because the chains will lower the grip to the road. Also, it will be very bad for the car as there will be quite a bit of heat buildup and grinding on the chains. Short answer... wait until you reach the snow. - a small trick... use your floor mats as a knee pad to keep your pants dry.

      Michael Heathman he actually did install them wrong. Tensioners aren’t supposed to be used on this style of cable chain. A tensioner is usually used the v-style cable chain or mostly used on steel chains. It especially helps to use a tensioner on steel chains to help keep the slack chain links from flopping around when you drive.
