Yes try to get the complete series. See if you can afford the coffin set. Your trance will be complete. Frid certainly has a certain something. The spell you will fall under will be complete.
@ThymeBottle The scene of Barnabas and Vicky seated on the sofa reading together is among my favorites. After expressing complete trust in each other, they share a moment of intimacy, free from drama, distress, or despair.
The character of Barnabas is so incredibly well-spoken and polite! When Burke Devlin objects to him giving Vicki the book, he defuses the situation like a true gentleman.
Vicky’s interest in the past arouses Barnabas’s attraction to her. Discussing the Collins family history with Vicky moderates his sense of isolation and offers a way to relate the story of his life, as well as that of his immediate family and the period that shaped him, without disclosing that he and the historical Barnabas are one and the same.
OMG the last scene of this video made me laugh out loud when Barnabas asks her if she has nothing better to do than sit around reading books at a time like this funny. 😆 Thanks. Good compilation
Yes! It brings to mind scene where distraught Julia runs in to Collinwood, asks Vicki (I think) question, & when Vicki responds w/her own inquiry, Julia snaps back, "There's no time for questions!" or some similar silliness.
While Barnabas probably spent many enjoyable evenings in the Old House, reading the works of William Shakespeare, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Norman Mailer and Jacqueline Susann, what about poor Willie Loomis? I mean, I doubt that Willie shared his employer’s/master’s love of literature. Willie impressed me as more of a “Star-Trek, “All in the Family” kind of couch potato tv guy. And, as we all know, Barnabas eschewed the “modern conveniences” including electricity and, therefore, tv viewing in the Old House. It must have driven poor Willie nuts! What was Willie to do, walk over to Collinwood to catch Johnny Carson’s opening “Tonight Show” monologue on the Collins family’s TV set? (Somehow, I suspect that ol’ Willie would hardly be welcomed enthusiastically, if at all, at the great house of Collinwood at 11:30 PM.) Maybe Willie frequented the Blue Whale nightly to have a few beers as he enjoyed watching “My Mother, the Car” and “Peyton Place” on bartender Bob Rooney’s 50 inch color tv at that venerable Collinsport watering hole?
In addition to his readings of Shakespeare his readings of Edgar Allen Poe were comparable to The late Vincent Price simply outstanding Johnathan Frid God bless him was a very special talent put his heart and soul in every part he ever played I truly admired the man and his works rest in piece Johnathan the world was a much more interesting place with you in it but at least we have you on film !
4:44 is a charming scene. The biographical information above sheds light on the reverence for which Barnabas speaks of books and history. Newspapers and history books helped Barnabas converse on current and past events not known to him. No doubt this show stimulated the reading, writing, and history interests of its younger audience back then. I know that it did mine. Bravo for assembling these enchanting scenes. (Julia's retort at the end is terrific.)
I wonder if Barnabas enjoyed reading the sports page, his personal horoscope, the tv listings and, most importantly, the local gossip column in “The Collinsport Star”?
and no wonder why I have learned a lot from Barnabas at the 2009's Barnabas Collins' Dark Shadows festival with Jonathan Frid after reading all the books.
but after by finding it in the attic, that DS episode has change from black and white to in color episode, in which that shows of how much longer it took just to find a book.
Barnabas dies at his age of 87 years in 2012: my mothers deceased at her age of 89 years in 2014, as two years after. My mother use to be scared even of seeing his face. But when I've told him about him in reading all these historical books as to being a scholar, my mother mention to me that he's a well educated person. And she even mention of that's why I've took after him by commenting that by saying that Barnabas is my Papa, a few months before she has deceased.
I love the episodes where Berk gets so jealous of Barnabas! Ha ha ha. A young man would have to be very insecure But then again Barnabas and Vicky had chemistry that was evident ! 😆
that really musta took all that time for Barnabas to find a book, and that is in not only by taking too long to find it in the attic, but also that DS episode change from BW to in color
wellll Robert Cobert, you've might as well keep playing that Dark Shadows theme song, and that is that the Barnabas Collins theme song while he keeps looking for these books.
What a beautiful video,Patricia !! I really enjoyed !! I didn't know that he loved to read !! We share the same passion , because I love to read very much !! Two of my favourite writers are William Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde . I don't know where I saw that he played some Shakespear's plays like Romeo & Juliet and Richard III , which I heard was his favourite work and I also heard that he also played The Picture Of Dorian Gray , that is one of my favourite Oscar Wilde's works , what a nice coincidence !! He is one of the most credible and complete actors that I've have seen . He was as good as Laurence Olivier !! I really enjoy your videos , Patricia !! Well done !!
It's a shame they won't let anyone put the whole series on you tube, but there is a lot of that......... I would pay to watch it again from the start to finish....
A scholar has an aptitude for study. Barnabas is a man resurrected from the 1700s, attempting to comprehend the 1960s, a modern world incredibly foreign to him.
I must try to get the whole dvd set of Dark Shadows….I‘ve become hypnotized…… by……. Frid! 🧛🏻 Love the costumes, especially Frid‘s wardrobe too! 😉

Indeed, making Burke so irritated that his jealous ploy backfired he appears legitimately pained!

A Jonathan Frid's fan told me he also spoke Spanish. I see he had read a lot, he was very intelligent.
Of course, what's really incredible is Jonathan Frid himself.
I wonder if Barnabas and Grandpa Munster ever hung out? "Hey Barney, let's go out and pick up some hot blooded babes!"
OMG the last scene of this video made me laugh out loud when Barnabas asks her if she has nothing better to do than sit around reading books at a time like this

Im watching all episodes of dark shadows. I can remember getting home from school and tuning into dark shadows at 4p

+Jimmys Jamin Yes, Jonathan was an extraordinary talent.
@susan462 Thank you so much, Susan! I'm glad you enjoy them. Keep watching, there's more to come.

I love old books and history ( got some 100+ year old books myself). I would love to sit by Barnabas fire and look at his antique books. ;)
I love that scene where he's reading a news paper, he looks so confused!
I wonder if Barnabas enjoyed reading the sports page, his personal horoscope, the tv listings and, most importantly, the local gossip column in “The Collinsport Star”?

Burke.
very classical and very interested. I have a lot of books too and some pictures paintings myself as well. and I'm still learning a lot from them.
This small book of whom Barnabas is holding, looks very valuable and interesting. I've love to read just to see of what is in that book.
I wish I could have seen Jonathan Frid’s one man show. People say he was outstanding.
RIP Mr. Frid.....aks Barnabas Collins.
that really musta took all that time for Barnabas to find a book, and that is in not only by taking too long to find it in the attic, but also that DS episode change from BW to in color
me too, Mariana Hernandez. now I'm ready to read another antic book
Frid and Hef shopped at the same smoking jacket shop !
wellll Robert Cobert, you've might as well keep playing that Dark Shadows theme song, and that is that the Barnabas Collins theme song while he keeps looking for these books.
my old man use to read the newspaper along with reading books.

Becky Shock Change your settings to read that you are in Britain and you might be able to watch them. You can always change them back.
2years later but its on Pluto running 24/7
Good ol' book that Barnabas is withholding and has passed it to Victoria Winters and to Carolyn Stoddard.
and then while he keeps looking for these books.
What is scholarly about reading a newspaper?
A scholar has an aptitude for study. Barnabas is a man resurrected from the 1700s, attempting to comprehend the 1960s, a modern world incredibly foreign to him.
I've love to read books too. Newspapers as well.
More like "Barnabas Collins - The Scholar." Didn't know that reading a letter makes one a scholar, but whatever.
Depends what is the content of the letter...
Good ol 'book that Barnabas is withholding and has passed it both to Victoria Winters and to Carolyn Stoddard.
