  • Took a spin on the Lectric XP Trike. Its a fun ride.
    On this channel we test and review ebikes and accessories. Its our goal to help you find the perfect ebike. When we review an electric bike, we don't simply ride it once and make a video, we ride it for 50-100 miles to get familiar with all it has to offer, then we make a video. But we don't stop there, we will make follow up videos as we continue to ride.

    There is a set screw on inside of each brake lever to adjust the position of engagement of the brake. You can adjust this to your preferred pressure of the parking brake. 👍

    Keep in mind the XPTrike is designed for lower speed operation, not for speed.
    If the XPTrike was meant for speed, it would have given the gearing for speed from the manufacturer.
    You keep testing the XPTrike for something that it is not designed for and call it a drawback.
    Sure, you can modify the XPTrike to allow you to pedal at higher speed, but again, it is not designed for speed.
    Likely, you'll lose stability in cornering at higher speed.
    Buy the right trike for its intended design, intended purpose.
    Chain noise seems to be from chain tensioner, check the chain tensions for noise reduction.

      I think it is designed to go at faster speeds for throttle only riders. I belong to a FB group for the XP and am quite surprised how many owners never pedal. In fact, when I ride and see ebike users, they don't seem to pedal much either. I am the opposite; I pedal 99% of the time. And since I don't mind riding a bit slower, this trike is perfect for me. I ride at 11mph with the 52-tooth crankset.

    Hey Richard, great video. I enjoyed the review video too. I got out today and had to outrun a gray rain cloud. I got home without any rain on me. Yay. Ha, also realized I had ridden my ebike twice instead of once between charging the battery. Had to head home a tiny bit sooner than I anticipated. All is good. I am impressed you can take this trike up and down sidewalks without any problems.

    I've been wondering if the controller for an XP 3.0 would work with the trike to get more speed and if it did, how much difference would being single speed make? If I get one that might be something I look into once the warranty is out. Looks like a chain ring swap would be the first thing I'd want to do though. I get that they are marketing the trike to older people and people with mobility issues (which would be me) but I'd like to be able to pedal at least up to its 14 mph limit both for exercise and to extend battery range.
    I really appreciate your honest reviews. It would be easy to just say you wouldn't recommend it after the damage and issues yours came with but you are giving it a chance. It's the most fair, honest review I've seen and I'm glad your channel came up on my recommendations. Now I just have to wait and see how the Addmotor compares when you get it.

    • @EbikeReviews
      @EbikeReviews  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for much for the comments. I try to be honest in all that I do. I don't know if the controller would work, that would be an awesome upgrade if it does. The motor should be able to handle more speed. Agree about chain ring swap. I'm considering it also. As for the Addmotor, specs look great, but we will find out in a few weeks how it performs. I'm just concerned about it being more narrow.

    On the Lectric Trike owners FB page, some people are putting a 52T chainset on for ghost pedaling. But, I think that is a partial solution. The ghost pedaling doesn't bother my wife who rides it. With our limited ability and knowledge, we are trusting Lectric made the best choice for most riders.

    Interesting. We live in a hilly part of IL (yep, there's a few places in the Prarie state that have hills). My wife pedals most of the time in PAS 3 with little ghost pedaling and averages 11 mph per the display and Apple watch. I did bump P12 from 1 to 2 and P22 to 1 (which you did too).I don't know if changing P12 will help you or not. Her chain is loud too. There is a squirrel sound occasionally. I don't know what that is about. Seems to me the fenders rattle from time to time, but are not loose. The wheel wobble was fixed by truing the wheels. Seems unlikely, but it helped. She hasn't riden in a few decades and was convinced a bike would not work for her. She is having fun riding it, 500 miles in less than 2 months.

    You definitely need to change the crank if you keep it

  • @timbuckingham6734
    @timbuckingham6734 Рік тому +1

    Scroll to CUR & watch the difference between pas 3 & pas 4, an other option would be to change the front sprocket from 36 teeth to 40. There is a small Allen key bolt between the brake lever & the handle bar if you loosen it a bit it will make it easier to use the right hand lock. They are there to adjust for brake pad wear.

  • @elliotflorida3469
    @elliotflorida3469 Рік тому

    There are two options to eliminate ghost pedaling. With the existing crankset, you can limit the top speed to 8mph electronically. Or you can install a 52-tooth crankset and limit the speed to 11 mph electronically. Pedaling at low speeds becomes a bit difficult the the 52-tooth cranks. It is difficult to us PAS 1 with the 52-tooth crankset. PAS 2 works fine as do all the other levels as long as you limit the top speed to 11mph. Works great for me, but I am never in a rush. For those that want to ride fast and pedal, this is not the right trike for you. For throttle only users, it is a non-issue.

    Everyone should know. I bought 2 lectric trikes for me and my wife last July. One of the trikes came with a bent wheel on the back, and the other one had two flat tires. Lectric ebikes sent us a new wheel but I bought new tubes for the tires. Now both bikes have bad rear axle bearings and the bikes are not usable. We have put 117 miles on one trike and 104 miles on the other all neighborhood riding. I sent video of the bearing movement, and noise. they told me I had to pack up the bike in original packing and ship it back 1000 miles just to get it fixed or replaced. I asked for a shop service manual but they refused. These bikes are cheaply made and service is poor. So much for savings.

    • @EbikeReviews

      I keep hearing about all the bearing problems. I have a new trike that is similar but uses a different axle, I am hoping it will be much better. So far it is. Video comes out this morning.

    If you want to increase your speed some, why not change the driven gear on your Differential from 16Teeth to 11Teeth. This should increase your speed from 14 mph to 20 mph. Thoughts?

      That may work, would also need to increase the size of the crank to prevent even more ghost pedaling.
