Mario Kart 7 - Neo Bowser City (Neon X remix)

- Remix of Neo Bowser City from Mario Kart 7 originally released on Nintendo 3DS, then on Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario Kart Tour
There are two reasons why I chose to make this theme:
It was a tied 2nd in my latest poll
It includes so many Mario Kart themes: Toad's Turnpike (MK64), Mario/Toad Circuit(MK7), Title screen (MK7), Mario/Luigi Circuit (MKWii), Mario Raceway (MK64) + my own added variation of the Rainbow Road theme (MK64). Many. (I didn't analyze this myself but read a lot in forums and comments on a bunch of videos of the original)
This original theme has a crispy, noisy and almost distorted sound to it. I experimented a lot with distorted and noisy synths, but ended up only using two distorted lead synths. I simply wanted the sound a bit more clear and clean, I hope you don't mind.
I haven't played Mario Kart a lot lately, actually it's been years since I raced these courses. But one thing I remembered in Neo Bowser City is that 270 degree left turn, oh my. At 200cc it wasn't a piece of cake. Otherwise one of the coolest courses in Mario Kart, it's oozing synthwave, neon and city night partying, love it.
I won't be spending time describing any kind of workflow in this one, I have a lot to think about right now (mostly preparations of our family trip up north). This means I won't be around with any new remixes the coming weeks, but it also means I will be really excited of making something new as soon as I get back.
I might be posting some vacation related content during our trip :)
See you guys!

You found Bowser's secret mixtape!
0:53 (Small Rr64 melody touch)
Once I gave it a second listen, I was like "That's N64 Rainbow Road!".
0:13 too
Oh, this is so cool!! This songs feels like a perfect fit for your style, for many reasons; the neon city night-racing theming of the level... the retro-futuristic instrumentation of the original... and the number of built-in references to other tracks across the series,... I can tell this one must have been especially exciting to work on!
I can't help but get excited when listening to this remix, too. It has such incredible energy, and the sound is so smooth, bright, and slick. It really makes you feel like you're driving through Neo Bowser City yourself, with the gloss of rain-soaked roads, reflecting those multicolored lights, and hugging those _tight_ corners for dear life! 😅
The atmosphere you've created here with the supporting instruments and chords is unreal. I love your use of complex chord structures with that sustained synth, and how it has some syncopation to it, too, for some additional groove. And that flourish at 1:23 in that sine-wave like synth sounds lovely as a complement to the lead. Oh man, and that arpeggiated synth at 1:32 that segues in so smoothly and swells leading into the transition - too good! It reminds me of Star Fox, for some reason, and I just love that section in general.
You always seem to try fresh techniques with each remix, and one thing that seemed new (at least to me) was that sort of "stuttered" effect at 0:09, and again at 0:35 - it's really cool, and quite a standout sound! Honestly, this remix is so chock-full of interesting and colorful details, that it's hard to keep track of them all, even after a half-dozen listens through! The way you transition seamlessly between segments and change up the energy of the song (like that big rising sweep at 1:45 - so powerful!) feels so natural, and I'm amazed at your ability to consistently balance variety and consistency, where the song feels diverse, yet coherent. I really admire that in each repeat of the melody, you make sure to make it unique and distinct from previous iterations through different chord progressions, instrumentation, rhythms, and a variety of ways!
And that BASS is superb! It sounds so funky, just like the one used in a lot of Mario Kart 7's OST. It's a great fit here, and I like that you've used different bass instruments to help with the changes in mood - for instance, using a gentler bass with less treble during those more atmospheric sections really makes a difference! And man, the drums and percussion are excellent, too - and I'm especially fond of that half-time breakdown at 1:18 with what sounds like your own original solo? Either way, it's really, really cool.
I feel like I can't say enough about this piece, Neon X. It's insane, how much you continue to improve with your music, and it's always just so immersive and enjoyable to listen to. Keep up the fantastic work, my friend! :D
EDIT: Ah, I almost forgot! I love the background art you made here, using Fury Bowser behind the futuristic-looking cityscape. And the slick-looking font looks great, with a beautiful sunset sky to top it all off!
Also, I hope you and your family have a great time on your vacation! Your weekly uploads will certainly be missed, but your channel's library has no shortage of musical gems, that's for sure. Enjoy that much-needed time off, and please give everyone my best! 💛
Synthwave 80's.
Great thing to start my morning with and that background art is crazy! :D
One of my most favorite racing tracks. Sick remix as always! 🔥
I can't help but feel that 0:54 was alluding Rainbow Road from MK64.
REGARDLESS, this remix is amazing. As others have mentioned, it fits the vibe of the city the song plays at. Please keep the songs coming!
sounding so good my dude! sooo gooooood!!!
Thanks man! I'm really glad you liked it
I am ASTOUNDED at how good MK7 is. I finally played it only recently and it's arguably the best game in the series.
so true bestie

Unpopular opinion. I like Mario Kart 7 too, but so many people dislike it due to lack of content, VS Mode and Waluigi, comparing it to Mario Kart Tour, which has a lot of tracks ported from that game …
Arguably, it is, or at least the most well-rounded. Cause Mario kart tour is 50% MK7, and unfortunately, half-pipes, 2 in 1 kart, and anti gravity are things that didn't come to tour. So yeah, MK7 is the most well-rounded. Sadly, it was a 3DS game... *_And you know how it is_* (Unfortunate flaws, battle is kinda stiff, *_and the roster... Its bad)_*
i love the track selection (retro and nitro) in MK7 !!
How does it compare to the OG Mario Kart Wii?
This background reminds me when I chose Bowser as disaster in SimCity, LOL 😂🤣👍,also could you make other SimCity games remixes like 2000 or 4
I don't know how you do it but you take amazing Mario Kart music and make it even better. I wasn't a huge fan of the Neo Bowser City music but now I am!

How lucky I was to see this recommendation. I discovered this and other covers of yours and now I am amazed. What a great job you did with Neo Bowser City
Underrated Remix, ngl, Sounds Mania-fied (aka heavily remastered music that sounds legit, and Sonic Music is always a hit)
