These words hit different when you understand where they coming from
😆
amen amen amen!!!!
I decided to listen to this SpiritualJewels
Why?
We Senior's and Disabled Veteran's At Council Tower Senior Apartments. Just received a visit from our Black Alderwoman Marlene Davis(Can't Make It Up).
Who so closely resembles Alderman Fred C. Davis...In Her speechifying.. I her benign neglect..I had to listen to this SpiritualJewels. Rather than crying.
Peyton Gendron...Where are you???
It hits different when you can only think about your childhood and how much simpler times were even though we struggled and were poor
.?,,? P
"Just looking out of the window, watching the asphalt grow - thinking how it all looks 'hand-me-down'..." - Brilliant lyrics
😢😭🥲🥹😊
When our adults used to tell us as kids “you’ll understand when you get older”? THIS song does just that
When I was a kid watching this in syndication "keeping your head above water, making a way when you can" I never knew what that meant till I became an adult. One little setback, an illness, a injury, anything, and you drown. This song hits different now at days.
I miss my grandma and granddaddy.
Aw. I miss my grandmother when I hear The Jeffersons. We'd eat Entennman's cake with the chocolate frosting, play checkers and sh'e'd hug and kiss me all day. We had little money, but no one cared.
Same here
Hearing John at beginning priceless
Jimmie JJ Walker's new Social Security commercial brought me here...it's fun to belt it out, y'all! To many more Good Times, folks. Peace.
Exactly! The show was never the after John Amos left.
I had totally forgot about his intro.
I did not know that was him all this time.
The way she sings "Friend" in the intro and the way she sings " Hand me Down" in the outro... Very subtle but man, hits me in the feels.
My favorite 70s TV theme song. So full of soul!
As I’m getting ready for work, this theme song popped in my head and I had to play it. I give thanks to those before me; who endured to make their way in this society. Eternal appreciation. Keep on pushing forward. 💙
Always a fun show, no shortage of “ Good Times” all the kids back then knew and sang the theme songs… miss those days
My Step-Granny looked and sounded like Esther Rolle. I miss her.....
I miss those days, too.
❤❤❤
Listening to this song during corona times, gotta keep pushing everyday 😊
May 2024. Ain’t we lucky we got em …..
The lady thats singing just looking out of the window watching the asphal grow ......😢thank you so much....
70's television was so cool,
ain't we lucky we got em? reuns.
It's the "watching the asphalt grow" for me!
Yasssssssss
Bingo
@ashleyhouston3958 I'm pretty sure it's "watching the asphalt GLOW" as in glowing under the hot summer sun. And we can all see the asphalt glowing when it's hot, hazy and gross sticky!
@@GAMEOVER-nd8fqDefinitely not. Definitely grow. Glow doesn’t even make sense in this context.
@@mrexecutive well, even if asphalt isn't capable of glowing, how is capable of growing? It's not a plant! I just know that I've seen it, and most people have looked down a long asphalt road in the hot, sticky, humid summer sun, and far out in the distance, the asphalt literally does GLOW, looks like a sheet of ice or water.
Debates like this will go on forever! But at least we are debating on happy memories!☮☮☮☮☮☮
Growing up in Chicago as a kid during this era was magic. The City was rife with institutionalized racism, and kickback schemes, Vietnam had recently ended, and crime was insane, but yet those were memorable times. That theme song was full of hope, it was like if you can just keep moving then things can get better. I miss those days !!!
Have always loved this song ... but it's never enough ... want more verses!
Yes ! I agree
Well aren't you lucky! There is another verse:
Dave Grusin, Alan and Marilyn Bergman _Good Times_ (1974)
Just lookin' outta the window
Watching the asphalt grow
Thinkin' ('bout) how it all looks hand-me-down
Roaches roaming' the hallways
Landlord is nobody's fool
He lives on the other side 'o' town
Good times: Any time you meet a payment
Good times: Any time you meet a friend
Good times: Any time you're out from under
Not getting' hassled: Not getting hustled
Keeping' your head above water
Making' a wave when you can
Temporary layoffs: Good times
Easy credit ripoffs: Good times
Scratchin' and survivin': Good times
Hangin' in and jivin': Good times
Ain't we lucky we got 'em: Good times.
@@MmeDesgranges Thank you!
Me
This is what we need right now.
RIP Ja' Net Dubois & Esther Rolle
I love that ending....
My favorite
Yes they rocked it 🙌🏾😩💯💯
Love this! I’ve seen Good Times in syndication for so long now I’d forgotten John did the “from Television City in Hollywood” at the intro and “Good Times is recorded on tape before a live audience” over the end credits. Thanks for the post.
How Does He Do That?
Classic favorite...thank you!
One of my all-time faves!! When I was a little girl, I was madly in love with JJ and thought Willona was the most beautiful woman in the world, PERIOD. I stopped watching the sitcom after John Amos left, though. I was heartbroken that he'd left, and the show wasn't the same afterwards. I'd loved John since he played Gordie on the Mary Tyler Moore Show. I was glad that as an actor he went onto bigger and better things as he wanted, but on Good Times he was sorely missed.
I love this show!! My mom and I sing the opening theme in the car 😂
In these troubled times we're living in. I finally realized that this song is a sarcastic take on how much things suck right now! 1974, now. Good Times! 😏
This reminds me so much my family and they used to live in the projects many years. Guess what? They have the same last night. Evans lol 😂😂😂😂😂
Love the Good Times song. And S&S is so damn groovy
Loved watching the show on channel 11 at 5 o’clock ny. As a kid your imagination takes you to different places and i always wanted to visit them in The projects. But I knew it wasn’t in NY. I went to visit them in the Greens recently to find out the buildings on the opening credits were leveled.
Mmm, how fitting. 😔
Composed by Dave Grusin! Jim Gilstrap did a lot of background vocals for Quincy Jones for Michael Jackson, George Benson, etc.
I love his (Jim Gilstrap) song titled, “Swing Your Daddy”.
Beautiful recording...good job!!!
The lady at the end hit that last note hard!
Timeless classic theme song.
They say she's singin' "Hangin' in a chow line," then you're told the lyricist wrote "Hangin' and a'jivin'." For 50 years I thought it's "Hangin' little children" 0:34
This will be on LOOP for a lil. I need the Nostalgia Real Quick😌
Thee most disputed song lyric comes from this song. The correct lyric …’Scratching & Surviving… Good Times!! (Hanging in a CHOW Line…) Good Times!’
It's "hanging and jiving"
@@montyb10009 I hear chow line
@@gb5663Okay, but it's jiving. 😂
@@montyb10009 that's really what you hear?
@@gb5663 Yep, because it's what they're singing.
Hard times, The Stuggle of my People, Goodtimes! Keep Striving!!
Fabulous remaster! Watched this show back in the day. To this day my fave theme song. But unfortunately the lyrics apply to today...
What a show ..
Performed by Jim Gilstrap & Blinky Williams. Ja'Net DuBois, who played the neighbor Willona Woods, is the singer of Movin' On Up - the Jeffersons Theme Song.
Jim Gilstrap’s song , “Swing Your Daddy” is one of my favorites!!!! He also sang a verse on Stevie’s, “You Are The Sunshine Of My Life”.
@@NOV123 He was also the male lead voice singing the 'Good Times' TV show theme.
Oops, I didn’t realize your comment was already a reply to me commenting on that. 🙂
Now that was "DY-NO-MITE!" .
"From Television City in Hollywood..."
Wow…just, wow!
I love watching this TV show and the song 🎵 😍
I always thought the lyrics were “watching the asphalt grow old.” I didn’t realize it’s just “watching the asphalt grow.”
I swear. Every time I listen to thus theme song I think about when The Wayans Bros. did this sketch. Marlon was damn fool popping out the back of that couch and pops was on swole 😂😂😂😂😂
"Hanging and a JIvin'" I have never know what they were saying before today.
not a party pooper. but the lyric is “hangin’ in a chow line”
@@schaticat it's actually "Hangin' In & Jivin'". The writers of the song confirmed this. People said it was "Hangin' In A Chow Line" because of how that lyric sounded.
@@Otto8845 whatever the writer intended, the singer says chow line. There is no way she's saying jivin'
@gb5663 the lyric is literally, "hangin' in and jivin'" and that is exactly what Wilona does, every episode.
@@schaticatit is not. It is exactly "hangin' in and jivin'."
Excellent song 🎵 👌 👏 👍
WATCHED it from premiere until it went off the air my junior year in high school.
CLASSIC 💯💯💯💯💎💎💎
Hangin and a jivin has been so confusing for decades Lololol. T
They were probably to cheap to have her do another take
Good Times....its shows dat u start from da bottom and graduate to success
Anybody hear the Sony Pictures Television logo music playing at 1:43 ?
I sure did, as I never miss anything like that.
@@shanesokoluk8736 okay
this would have made a good black national anthem. Am I right or am I right??
Remember seeing Sanford and Son followed by Good Times on Channel 43-1 on San Marcos San Diego weeknights on 2019, Don´t Know What Happened to this Low Power Channel, I have not get the signal since.
Who else thinks the male singer in the theme song sounds like Bookman? 😂
You’re not alone. I always thought it was Bookman/Johnny Brown! 😂
I always thought it was James.
RIP to Good Times co-lyricist Marilyn Bergman.
Good Times 👍
tHANK YOU GOOD TIMES GET ME THROUGH AFTER SCHOOL SPECIALS SO EASY IT IS GOOD TIMES, AMEN HALALLHAHDFLSALFLE;LAFUYYAHHHH

Oh Quackers ya estás con Dios pato...
It is hanging in and jivin. I just put the speaker to my ear. I heard it clearly. Ok, we can put this argument to rest permanently.
I only thought it was, standing in a chow line because of the Chappelle show.
Good times was my favorite show to watch on tv but it is not on TV anymore
that 85 south version though
DY-NO-MITE!!!!
wake up
Chapelle made this funny
Why have they always felt it necessary to tell us that it was filmed before a live audience? What difference did it ever make?
Because a lot of those old black and white sitcoms of the 1960s had laugh tracks for every joke. They wanted you to know that the laughs and reactions you heard were real from an audience and not laugh tracks.
And also, it was run as a play with the actors continually performing. No tricky editing, weird camera shots or cut aways. What we were seeing was a magnificent live performance with real audience reaction. The Jeffersons did the same thing. It is a marvel to witness and something that is taken for granted with todays highly edited content
dYNANNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMIITITITTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
JJ kept calling his sister ugly all the time. Didnt make any sense. I get it, brothers and sisters insult each other but this was preposterous. Bernadette is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. So have him make fun of other things all you want. However dissing her looks is just plain absurd. I loved me some Thelma! ❤❤❤
I only like good times season 45 and 6
DYNOMITE !!!
Somebody once claimed I was racist towards blacks.
"Impossible!", I said.
"I grew up watching Good Times and Jeffersons." 😆
Holy crap this is shrill and tinny. Nice try, I guess?
