Feeling wistful. In ‘64, my dad was tasked to paint a “City of El Paso” mural on one for a sister city exchange. He came home several times complaining he had to chase the fuselage around with the scaffolding when the wind kicked up.
Later, I used to bike out to the flight line to watch F4 Phantoms take off, but occasionally a Stratofortress was headed in or out, which invariably caught people’s attention.
The width of the wingspan is pretty amazing to see up close, as was how near to the ground the wingtips could be.
Just another Air Force brat memory.😎
