- In this video I replace the bottom head of an OCDP snare and the stock snare wires with SPL 14 in 42 strand wire. I go through the snare side head tuning method I use and a couple of tips on how to set the wires right.

I like the snare wire 42 wires
I just picked up this exact snare from gcs used online & im almost positive it may be the same one your using here I love that you use a larger count snare wire as I usually use 30-42 just makes all the difference in response and sound! Nice playing & video brotha!🤘🏻
Thanks!
A better head to use is the evans reverse dot. That's what I'm using now.
Just ordered some 40 strand snare wires...looking forward to seeing how they sound. Your snare sounds good with and without moon gel. I would try cutting the moon gel in half and I think it would sound even better :)
Cool, the snare response is great with these wires! You may be right about the moon gel, Ill give it a go.
Agreed, sounds great. But maybe try half moon gel as he said.
Before bottom head 2:25
Tuning and wire replacement 3:10
Final sound 5:25
Just think its too tight and choked
The snare wires or the tension of the drum?
@@PerkChoppzDrums The drum, from what I could tell from the recording. If it's too tight it takes the quality you get from a nice snare and chokes the tone. A sample of my favorite snare sound is on Dave Weckl "Wet Skin" from the album Synergy. Man that snare sounds awesome! Fairly tight, but a lot of punch and crack! You can still hear the tone of the shell of the drum. Of course, that's my opinion. Thanks for replying back😊
Jerome.
@@PerkChoppzDrums there's one of those drums but the maple version on eBay for $179.Is that a good deal?
$150 or less is a good deal. $179.. ehh..
@@PerkChoppzDrums I didn't take them up on the offer soon enough and so it went back to $195.00. Beau6 finish on it! For right now I'm using my Pearl Sensitone steel shell 14x6.5. Sounds good tight or medium tension.
