Toe Spreaders - How to Wear Them

- Toe Separators (Toe Spreaders) are a foot tool used to help fix misaligned or narrow toe arrangements. This silicon item is made to provide the natural space between the toes.
I would not recommend for more than a couple hours a day, to gain proprioreception of how your toes feel in a proper position.
I have created a Free PDF of Flat Feet Exercises for You

I was wearing the wrong way, thanks for your help.
The directions that came with mine said to put them on opposite of what he said, the way that you would guess they go on
Me too!!!
Same here
Same
Me three 😂
I am so glad I found your channel, I have love the fact you were very in-depth with all of your teaching, and didn’t know I was wearing these wrong for the longest time, I think this is week 3 and I’ve been wearing them incorrectly and uncomfortable. this is significantly better
I've found great success in increasing my toe splay using Correct Toes. Wish I stumbled upon your channel 2 years back; would have made way quicker progress in strengthening my arches. Keep preaching the truth brother✊🏾hopefully society wakes up one day and spreads their toes!
Thank you! Great job on the toes, they are key to good movement.
Great video Brother! I've had a pair for a few days and I have been wearing them wrong BUT still my feet feel better. I run everyday and I am a huge fan of minimalistic and natural running shoes. Just got my first pair of FIVEFINGERS by Vibram and I love them! Great work!
I think It depends on the toe spreaders that you have. The directions that came with mine show them the "wrong" way.
I was diagnosed with RA about 18 months ago and my toes are beginning to deform. I think I'd like to try these toe separators. Thank you for putting the record straight on HOW to wear them. Seems like there are many folk who had been wearing them incorrectly.
definitely important to look for an opinion of a thing from someone who is not selling it, agree with your conclusion. thanks
Thank so very much this video is so helpful on how to wear the toe spreaders as they dont come with any instructions and Ive been wearing them the wrong way round.
Thank you! I have been wearing them upside down. I worked my way up to being able to wear them for quite a while, but they were never comfortable enough to wear while moving. But I flipped them according to what you were doing, and this is WAY more comfortable! THANK YOU SO MUCH.
That is great!
D'oh! That blew my mind! I toe-tally would have put them on upside down too
I don't know why your comment made me laugh...but it did😂
lol, pleased I clicked on this video as I'd been wearing them the wrong way too like so many of the other comments. Cheers bud!
I don't find this kind of information anywhere else. Thank you. Your videos are invaluable! I have flat feet and constantly suffer from week knees, so I am constantly on the lookout for these kind of videos.
Thanks for watching! Glad to be of help.
How are you doing after 2 years?
Thanks for showing the proper way of wearing them.
Thank you for watching.
Thanks! I was wearing them wrong haha. Now I'll see even better results!
I got a toe adjuster and tried to wear it during the day and it made me limp. Glad to know these can be worn while walking.
Thanks, I just got a pair and your video was the first one I watch. I did have them on wrong. You gave lots of good common sense advice. Again Thanks
I mean common sense would be to wear them so that they match the curvature of your foot but if some guy on the internet tells you otherwise...🤦
I'd been wearing them upside down, because the product photos showed them being worn upside down! It made literally no sense! Worn the right way round, I can instantly feel a difference in terms of blood flow around my toes. It's a very energising sensation.
Thanks…….just ordered them
Thank you very much! i have been wearing it upside down this whole time and almost sent it back
I like them, I think they are effective. I have broken several toe on both feet and they help alot
Had them on the other way and felt like it didn’t do much. Tried it this way and immediately felt the burn and the adjustments All through my foot and Achilles (which I’ve had tendonothopy on for about 2 years)😭 thanks!!
Yes, it is more intense. Im glad you found it helpful.
I just bought this few days ago. So far I've only worn them when I'm around the house after work until it's time for bed (5.5 to 6 hours). It feels weird for the first 3 days, but so far I am seeing my toes starting to adjust back to normal a bit. I know it's going to take time, but so far it's working for my feet. Once adjusted back to normal I do plan on going without them instead of wearing them for the rest of my life. Another thing that helps too is the wide shoes as well. I used to have tight shoes for a while, but ended up switching to wides when I notice the change in my feet as well as slight pain from walking.
Yes, these are for temporary use. Foot shaped shoes are a must.
I've been wearing them the wrong way for weeks now. I felt so much pain at night from my toes being spread too far apart. This way works so much better, i can already tell my toes are spread into a much more natural position. Thanks for the video!
It hurt because you actually had them on right. It stopped hurting because you put them on wrong, not because your feet suddenly adjusted to the correct position 🤦
@@maximum_effort1 No. My toes were literally spread so far apart that my little toe looked like it was broken out of place. With them on the correct way, my toes had less splay and looked far more natural.
@@Britt. Ok, good luck with that 👍
Thanks, I can't move my toes on my right foot because of nerve damage caused by cauda equina 21 years ago. My big toes also hyperextend! Going to get toe separators and see if they'll help
Oh my gosh! Thank you!I threw mine out a year ago because they were so uncomfortable! This explains why! 🤦♀️
They may still be uncomfortable, at first. But at least they will be more effective.
Omg I have been wearing them wrong for months 🤦🏾♂️! Thanks bro💯
No problem. Glad to help.
You’ll truly made my night 1000x better. I had these on the wrong way and it was highly uncomfortable and painful, and I just knew something was up because my toes still looked the same and overlapping but, after watching this video everything looks and feels WAY better
Same here!! Why I came to UA-cam, to find answers :D So grateful for this video!
Do you have improvements?
@@teenermeener971 It helped me to walk a lot straighter, but once I stopped using it due to experiencing much discomfort, I went to walking the same. I honestly feel it’s best to use these when you’re younger to train the muscles and bones.
I needed this video! New subscriber!
I bought some five finger shoes for the holiday on the beach and for walking on the reefs! Sooo comfy! And when you take them off it is like your feet are reborn 😁 I just wear them now in the house for a while..or all day! Really people with painful feet try them! They are expensive..but I got mine almost new on EBay!
They are great.
I have a whole new respect and understanding for the toe box. I also used yoga toes and a “foot gym” for rehab. I haven’t worn heels since my fracture which actually happened barefoot but I really miss heels. 😕
Hopefully you will recover from your fracture soon, practice the foot exercises to bolster the foot making it resistant to further injuries.
Update?
Good video, I was wearing them wrong. Thanks for the help. It appears the manufacturer assumes people know how to wear them. Again thanks
I realised I been wearing them the wrong way around so thanks for the correction! Informative as always! Thank you
same lol.
WOW!! I’ve been putting those toe spreaders on upside down all that time then throwing them out as it hurt! Thank you for this video as I’m going to give it one more try 🤞🏼!
( crossing my fingers it helps as I already have the crossed over toe😂)…
Thank you! Been wearing them wrong for the last two years! 🤦🏽♀️
awesome video bro, thanks for posting this
Glad to help.
Just got these today and I put them on wrong already lol. Thanks for helping!
Really good video 👍
3:54 - 3:59 killed me 😂 thanks for the video, I just got mine today and wasn't sure which way I should put them on.
Love the final words on crutches.
Thanks for guidelines.
Thanks for your video to teach me the right way.
Glad it was helpful!
Wow i just picked some up tried them on and thought I think these are backwards. Your video confirmed my thoughts
Do you push them down to the bottom of your toes or just to the part of your toes that need spacing, also I've got a different set of toe spacers which have a loop to go around the toe fully would it be the same way when wearing mine like yours or not
I had no idea I had them on wrong. Thank you!
Well I don't think he is right with the direction he put them on tbh. The notice of mine shows opposite direction as what he is showing here. 🤔
LOL the tip on how to put them on. Amazing! haha been doing them wrong for weeks
Glad I could help!
I just got some today. Thanks for showing me the correct way to wear them😁😅
Glad to help!
Loan of crap they don't do anything for your bunion except make your feet uncomfortable and you can hardly walk
oh my god this was exactly what i needed
Gotta say it, love what you do. Real topics for "fit-woke" seekers, lol. Useful, informative, succinct, clear, balanced. Peace to you and yours
Thanks for the advice. I think I have a bunion developing on my left foot after noticing my left calf muscle recently was tighter then usual. Although I haven’t been stretching lately either and I run a lot and cycle etc, but I also have periods when I’m inactive as well. I think I was dehydrated a lot recently when I noticed I was having spasms in my calf muscles just before waking up, so I’m not sure if those spasms are related to the bunion I see developing in my left foot. Right now until I get hold of your toe spacers I’m using a sponge wedged in between my big toe and other toes and it’s helping a lot with the inflammation. It took me by surprise because I didn’t realise something was up even though I’m flat footed. I was planning to wear these toe spacers all the time but after listening to your advice I’ll wear them for 6 hrs a day. But should I wear them when I run? Yesterday for the first time I placed a sponge in between my big toe and other toes and it felt alright running but I’m not sure if I should do this or use the toe spacers for running or use nothing and just wear the toe spacers for 6 hrs at home.
Are you sure about the or ientation of the toe spreaders? There’s a DPM channel (Northwest Foot & Ankle) where they show a toe spreader (Correct Toes) which appear to be worn in the opposite orientation. Then again, on your correct/incorrect side by side pic, they do seem to fit your foot better when worn “backwards”. Maybe the toe spreaders you show are designed differently than Correct Toes? But to my untrained eye, they appear to be an equivalent design. Your thoughts?
3:55 you actually made me think if I have toes for a second?😂😂😂 lol THANK YOU! I was wearing it wrong🙈✌🏽
Ha! I bought some a few weeks ago and only tried them twice-they were kind of cumbersome to put on and I thought I’d just get the foam ones that they give you during a pedicure, so much easier. Just put them on the right way and it’s better now.
Another great video it seemed like common sense to go with the angle of your toes, but it makes so much sense to flip them around. Thank you and I was wearing mine the wrong way too. Lol
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!!
Yes it works
Thanks for this video, I had been wearing mine the ‘wrong’ way!!
I know it's a bit tricky..
The manufacturers didnt have best use in mind, they just wanted to make sales.
@@GrownandHealthy Like manufacturers of Correct Toes designed by sports podiatrist, Dr. Ray McClanahan and Naboso Splay designed by Dr. Emily Splichal, functional podiatrist and human movement specialist?
Is it effective for fixing flax feet issue as well?
Just realized I have been wearing them the wrong way. Hehe, thank you.
Nice!
I feel pain in my fourth toe when i run in the morning. Should i use these?
Thank you, very helpful. I was putting them the wrong way.
You're welcome!
Why would one wear them the opposite way than they were advertised? Thanks, I’m loving the videos!
Thanks for watching.
I see posts on Instagram all the time, upside down. So frequently, that I had to show the correct way.
@@GrownandHealthy What is your reasoning though for wearing them the way you recommend? The toe spreaders are naturally concave on the non-serrated side
@@6Uncles wearing them the way as advertised sets creates gaps through the base of the toe, and if you are wearing a shoe with a narrow toe box, you will just create gaps at the base and the toes will form to touch one another. By wearing it "upside down" you keep the divide along the length of the toe, creating a more even spread of the toes.
Do you think these will fit. I wear size 11-11½
Wow!! Had no idea
Thank you
You're welcome
Thank you so much, sir. :)
Bro thank you I knew it felt wrong to have the big ends of the spacers facing upwards and not into my toes lol thank you luckly iv only had them on for a hour or two
See. I knew heels were from the devil lol
The video i seen say s to wear them the other way. Can you check for the right way thanks.
How does the compare to correct toes?
How long does it take to get better
can i wear it while in gym doing squat or hard core training ? please answer
As long as you have the proper footwear, yes, I recommend it. It will allow for better toe dexterity.
I play basketball and I play for about 2 hours a day. Do I wear these while I play basketball? When should I be wearing these and when should I not be wearing these
I do not recommend playing with them, while wearing conventional basketball shoes. I would wear them in a wide toe box shoe and wear it while working and just walking around..you can sleep with them, but without socks they may come off at night and annoy you.
Thanks for this. All I can say
Hi, does this product stretch the bones in your toes to straighten your feet?
They don't stretch your bones, they only align your toes to stay in a straight position. If you continue to wear the shoes that misaligned your feet, the problem will recur.
Don’t the loops around the big and pinky toes prevent your toes from actually spreading apart further and just squishes them together?
They are too malleable to not have them around the ends. Correct Toes has a variation without the end loops.
Omg, yep, this is so better my pinky toe was looking like it was gonna snap there. Maybe the so called right way is better when our toes are stretched out more?
My second toes are crooked a bit and it bothers me. I'm trying Bodhi Feet Toe Separators to see if it'll help. Think it's OK to sleep with them on over night?
Can you explain why they should be worn upside down instead of the other way?
I love how they feel, like a weird sort of massage feeling but not that, but that, lol.
Sorry I don't understand the reasoning behind wearing them upside down as you're depicting here?
Out is interest , do you wear the toe spaces with or with out shoes . I came across your video . Doing a bit of research. I just note my left small toe joint with a bump on the outer part . Apparently with some TLC , it can resolve its self . Reason , I am a road bike cyclist , using clip in shoes and pushing down and up , I guess the down force has caused this issue . Please advise any help is a blessing.
Regards Fabian
I wear thwm with barefoot shoes (wide toe box). Cycling shoes may be too narrow to wear them.
@@GrownandHealthy , thanks for the advice , how long would you see results?.
@@fabianwylie8707 You will see a change after a full day of wearing them... but they will revert, if you dont wear barefoot shoes.
For long lasting change, I would advise to perform exercises while wearing them.
@@GrownandHealthy Thanks so much for your time , really appreciate the help 🙏🏻
Don't you think the middle toes shouldn't be splayed as much as the big and small toes? I feel that the toe spacer for the middle toes are too large and so the toes point outward away from the body instead of pointing straight in front of the body.
I think toe splaying that way is detrimental to the toes. What do you think?
Have you tried Correct Toes? They only have spacers between the little toe and 4th toe, and the big toe and 2nd toe. They didn't work for my toes because they only have thin strips between the middle toes and my middle toes need spacers.
hmm intresting in your more recent vidoes you are wearing them the other way around. But here you recomend to wear them what most would see as upside down. Which do you still recomend ?
When wearing them to get the most splay (Passively), upside down...
When performing exercises with them, my small toe will fall out, then I wear them right side up.
If it were not for my anatomy, I would always wear them upside down.
The silicon gap, sinks into the notch between the toes, which doesn't spread the toes as much, as the Toes mold around the silicone, especially when wearing shoes.
When worn upside down, you will see that the silicone bars are positioned more towards the ends of the Toes, creating more space.
I been having problems with my foot for years , I thought I had a Morton's neuroma had a MRI done the doctor said I didn't have Morton's neuroma, he had me to start wearing orthotics but that didn't help so now the doctor is having me do exercises strengthen of the foot but I just noticed some of my toes look like claw toes and I'm going to try toe spacers I hope it works out for me I been dealing with this ever since I started to wear shape ups sneakers but I stopped wearing shape ups
Try 4 sponge curlers for toe separators
I've been wearing the spacers that come in your foot combo kit for a couple days, but I'm finding that they're pinching my big and little toes too much. I have men's 10EE feet. Do they come in a wider size? I also have Correct Toes and don't have this issue since they don't go around the outer toes, but they come out of place easily. So, I'd prefer these if I could find a pair that fit properly. Btw, I love the ball and band - very high quality! Thanks for all you do!
Thank you for the support!
The spreaders are one size fits all.
The shoe needs ample width in order to avoid rubbing.
Some have cut off the ends to avoid the discomfort, but they become less stable, like the correct toes.
@@GrownandHealthy Does cutting off the ends of these silicone spacers affect functionality in any way though?
@@insertname1841 No, just stability. The ends are omitted for Correct Toes, but their material is more rigid.
I had been wearing mine wrong! Thank you so much!
Your welcome, glad to help.
Man that’s crazy people are having they same problem especially when it’s a female now ik it’s a normal thing now. Imma buy some
@@needtorealize1573 they are worth it!
How much does it cost and does it work for people with crooked toes naturally
Question, can boxer use these during a workout and or weight training session??
I use them during exercise, but you will need wide toe box shoe.
I would not use them with boxing work, stepping (like during a jab) will become aggravating.
@@GrownandHealthy appreciate it bro!! I need to buy a new pair. Currently I use the traditional pair to walk around. I'll be getting those pair very soon. 💯💯😎😎
I wear them to bed, for 18 months now. The toe spread is way more comfortable!
I'm binge watching all your videos while working on switching my shoes to zero drop and starting toe spacers.
I just got toe spreaders from Naboso about 4 weeks ago. Although it looks like I am wearing them differently than you do, my toe spacers have a large hole for the big toe and a small hole for the pinky toe so it's clear how these toe spacers are supposed to be worn. I read below that your way is more spreading which I am interested in but need a different pair because of that big toe hole. Anyway, I wear them for 2-3 hours a day but not longer. At 60 they make my feet ache after wearing them for too long and I will work up to the 5/6 hour mark before I wear them walking.
You should flip it along the long axis to make it face the other way. That will keep the big toe hole in the same spot. In other words, rotate it top to bottom instead of left to right.
Hi. Can these been warn with socks and shoes , trousers / sports shoes or just wear them at home only?
They can be worn with socks and shoes. Remember to wear this with minimal/barefoot shoes that will allow your toes room to maneuver.
I’m so glad that I found this video, I was wearing my the wrong way
Why not wear them the way the manufactures say they go?
Will it suits if we have shortern toes becoze my 3rd and 4th toe are short i was planning for toe leghtening bt its too costly so can i try this?
Yes, these are very soft and easy to get on. I have a very tiny little toe and one next to it, and was able to get this on just fine, and it stayed on.
Hi Bro, is it possible to run with these ? thanks.
Yes. Make sure the toe box of your shoe has ample room.
Why would you put them upside down? Instructions on mine clearly shows to put them on the opposite direction as what you do.... Also the curve follows the natural pattern of the toe placement, while with the way you do it it curves the wrong way. Curious to know how you came up with this?
Im guessing he figured out that they worked better for his feet so he decided to tell everybody what they should do 😂
Will this fix hammer toe
If your toes ache, try rolling the toes on a lacrosse ball, in a sweeping motion under the toes.
Will this permanently fix them over time? or will it just go back after you take hem off?
I see it as stretching, must use it consistently to see results
🔥🙌🏾🔥 blessed
