My Dad's Vegan Tuna Fish Made From Soy Curls

  • Join my crazy family as my dad makes his vegan tuna fish made from soy curls. Enjoy this lighthearted video. We like to enjoy life and have fun.
Butler Soy Curls are so versatile. You can make so many things with them.
He rehydrates them in water (I know he says for an hour in the video, but if you follow the package directions it takes much less time). Drain well.
Then he puts them in a food processor with some Nori seaweed (the kind used for sushi) and chops them until they're little pieces like tuna fish. He uses one sheet of seaweed for an entire bag of soy curls. Go easy on the seaweed...it's easy to overdo it!
Mix with your favorite vegan mayo. He used a recipe from the Forks Over Knives Cookbook in this video, made from extra firm tofu.
He adds chopped sweet pickles and celery, and some Old Bay seasoning. Mix well.
Butler Soy Curls are so useful...and they are a whole food!

I am really proud of him. Once he realized the doctors could no longer fix him, he was motivated to try this, and it helped that he had support and love. I think that's so important for people.

What a great story of how you made the change so your dad wasn't going it alone. I too made the change 3 years ago for the same reason but we've both benefitted from better healthy and it's actually pretty easy and fun to do a vegan diet. Your dad is really hands on, makes for great videos.

I have watched a lot of vegan UA-cam channels over the last year since going plant based, but none have made me smile like you two. Thanks for making it fun and keeping it real. I, too, have discovered soy curls and love them. I made chili the other day and took it to a family get together. I should have made double the amount because it was gone in no time! My Omni family members loved it and never even asked 'what's in this?', like they usually do. Lol You and your dad are special. Keep it up!

Hi! You and your father are lovely, you made me smile!
I have a question, I used to eat a lot of canned tuna packed in olive oil, here in Spain is it in almost every salad. How can I imitate the texture and the taste of it?
We never eat tuna salad like yours... Our salads usually have canned tuna packed in olive oil and fresh vegetables, usually are lettuce, tomato, olives and some times grated carrot.
    Thanks in advance!

Can you use block tofu in place of soy curls? Much easier for me to locate where I live. Where can I locate vegan tuna fish ingredients list for your Dads recipe? Also the vegan mayonnaise recipe? Would it be possible for you to list the full recipe below your videos in the description area? You and your Dad seem to enjoy your time together prepping these recipes. Maybe if you got your Dad a large plastic dishpan to place all his items he already used during food preparation. That possibly Might help your Mom in process of clean up after doing videos with your Dad. Everything would all be together and easier for your Mom to put away. Enjoyed your video a lot. Thanks for sharing. Tamson😊

Two vegan channels I love are: conniiesRAWsomekitchen, and KorenRachelle. They create art with seitan/vital wheat gluten. I use the seitan to replace meat, along with oatmeal sausage (yum), and homemade veg/bean/rice type meat. I have a daughter & husband. I cook an ethnic theme meal for every day of the week. A different bean for each meal. Monday is Mexican pinto bean/faux meat enchiladas, rice, beans, salad w/ avocado, onion, tomato, napa, cilantro, lime etc. I have a big chalkboard menu in my dining room. I fill it out each day. Makes it fun.
