    I often think that we never would have fought let alone won a revolution with the type of spoiled people we have today. Those men back then we're hardy and courageous. We owe them a debt that could never be repaid.

      You're absolutely right. Our country is falling apart we should be ashamed of ourselves.

      Yes. What breaks my heart is that so many Americans today vote for politicians who restrict freedoms rather than expand them. People want free stuff over liberty.

    This is the absolute best park film which should be required viewing (repeatedly) for every American. The trials and tribulations our countrymen underwent at valley forge should never be diminished. WE all went through these trials, WE endured, WE the people saw through the continued humiliations to absolute victory, WE are the benefactors to the ‘remotest generations’ of the combined privations on valley forge- shame on all of us to allow any one of us to forget.

    Having camped here in scouts and rotary. I get a real sense of freedom watching from this for the first time when I was five. Huge fan of military history ever since. I recently got my ba in history from Rosemont college. This video I feel the soldiers being cold wet and hungry. As have been all three as a scout. Now a scout leader cradel of liberty council. Proud of pa to spark liberty in more than one spot in the state. Then to the nation we are still trying to perfect.

      They overplay Valley Forge Winter. The average daily high temp is well above freezing (usually upper 30s to upper-mid 40s). Temperature in South Eastern PA only very rarely goes below 20 degrees.

    • @milliondollarsoup75
      @milliondollarsoup75 2 роки тому

      @@tarstarkusz I live in southeast PA. High temps are closer to low 30s on average. Overnight it's under 20 constantly, especially in January

      @@milliondollarsoup75 I live in Philly and worked in Chesterbrook and Malvern for years. They are really overplaying how cold it gets. They even said in the text that the weather was moderate and they were mostly beset by rain rather than snow. Rain in the winter does indeed suck.
      I would be interested in seeing the highs and lows of the winter in 1777. It might have been colder then. London was. The Thames froze every year back then. It almost never freezes today.
      The rain is not surprising. Even today, snow storms moving West to East hit Harrisburg and turn to rain. It's the storms that come up the coast that kill us.

    There were three different versions of this awesome film. The original was done in the 1970s, it was revised in 1982 and the one here was revised in 1991 or 1993.
    It was was shown both in the parks large theatre building and for a short time, also in a small screening room in the welcome center.
    Until 2006 it was shown on an Elmo CX-350 16mm projector and film tree until they switched tp DVD in 2007.
    I have some awesome pics of the old film system that I would love to share here but UA-cam won’t allow me to post pix in the comments.
    Can anyone help!?!

      Hi Margaret,
      Thank you for the comment! And Yes! The original film from the 1970s was produced by Caleb Deschanel (Zooey Deschanel's father), and that footage was recut a couple of times after Valley Forge State Park became Valley Forge National Historical Park.
      We would love to see your pics of the old system! Please feel free to send them in an email to valleyforgenhp@gmail.com.

    Ummm folks, KEEP THIS IN MIND:
    "The climatic conditions the Continental Army faced at Valley Forge and a year later at Middlebrook, N.J., were mild compared to those they endured at Morristown during the *_harshest winter in American history January 1780_* . {my emphasis}
    *_“Those who have only been in Valley Forge and Middlebrook during the last two winters, but have not tasted the cruelties of this one, know not what it is to suffer...”_* wrote *Baron Johann de Kalb*, a German soldier who served as a major general in the Continental Army.
    Not to detract from these Veterans honorable service at Valley Forge.... but .... keep in mind.
    (my ancestor served 1775 - 1783 both at Valley Forge AND Morristown Huts 1780 as mentioned above.)
    Keeping it real.

    Why hadn’t most people at this point, living in this climate, thought of covering themselves with something like deer skin or another type of animal skin to keep warm? It would seems to be a lot better than the rags they wear.

      Believe it or not Deer were rare. I know here in Mid-Michigan in the 40's and 50's my grandfather said they didn't start to see larger herds of deer until larger crop farms came into vogue in the 70's.

    VF Park is in need of a reimagining. If you look at what they did at Gettysburg, it’s a much more immersive experience. You have a world class visitors center, observation towers, superior battlefield markings, and the best rangers anywhere. VF has a couple of huts and a nasty casino down the street. The renactors at VF are standoffish and snobby. VF is basically an overgrown walking trail. It’s an embarrassment.

    • @pumpkinking5174
      @pumpkinking5174 3 роки тому +2

      The VF visitors center has been redone recently, a new video was filmed replacing this outdated one, Ft Moore, a reconstructed redoubt was built several years ago near the Mulenberg Brigade Hut area.
      Come out on December 19th for the march in program and I'll talk to you no problem.
      You do know VF isn't a battlefield?
      And what does a casino have to do with anything at VF National Park?

    • @johncook8720
      @johncook8720 Рік тому +1

      Umm Gettysburg is not Valley Forge when it comes to the number of troops present, or the fact that a major battle was fought there (which was not the case at Valley Forge). But beyond that, yes, they've completely redone the visitor center (a major upgrade) and for the many countless times ive been there, the re-enactors and park rangers have not only been very informative, theyre very friendly and outgoing. The casino? Yeah its there. Its BEEN there, you drive past it to get to the park. No biggie.
