I was in Xiamen 2 years ago with a Chinese friend, and it was one of the nicest places I've been to in China. The island next door was so interesting, even had a museum of old recordings, and the food was fantastic. I hope to return soon.
Finally, I got to see Dr. Bill Brown and I agree with him 100% on how Beautiful Xiamen is, the nice people there, everything is nice. Wish I can retire there too. Dr. Bill Brown you are a good friend and proponent of Xiamen with your AmoyMagic website and your book. And the late philantrophist Mr. Tan Kah Kee, I hope many will emulate you in your vision and generosity.

There is aa old Hokkien (Minnan) saying in Minnan Bea cheng, khi So Hang Ze Chew. Bea shi, khi Hokkien Thewchcew. If you want to wear go to Suzhou and Hangzhou If you want to die go to Hokkien Thewchew. Well because The cold climate of Suzhou and Hangzhou, you can dress more elegantly. The warm climate of Hokkien and Thewchew, dying is more comfortable.

yes. air pollution in a city is always appearing in the period of being under construction for massive infrastructures building upm Xiamen has already passed that period and came into a clean, developed city
@@michaellim7002 This is bad as Hokkien is also heading towards extinction in Singapore and Malaysia as well due to language policy. Mandarin get taught in schools and gets aired on the media but not for non Mandarin dialects.

I didn't hear any of them speaking in Xiamen dialect (Hokkien). Is the original Fujian dialect dying among the young ?
