Maybe the ribcage bones could somehow work with the water tunnel. Like merge two elements into one so it makes it like the reason the tunnel exists in the first place was because there was a giant ribcage half buried to the ground. Lore wise it would raise questions like whose bones are these? Are they part of the giant skull? How long have they been around? It add mystery to the horror vibe
Lore idea: the anthropologist stumbled across this little fishing village completely by accident. They found it was abandoned, and decided to stay there for a while to study the strange bones they found all over the place. Very strangely, even though it was a ghost town that seemed to have been abandoned for years already, all the buildings were in a pristine state - almost as if there was an invisible person coming to tidy up everyday. They decided not to dwell on it too much though. One day, while they were sailing out to observe the giant humanoid skull out on the beach, they found that even though the wind was blowing one way in the fishing town, there was a phantom wind that seemed to push them towards the beach - almost…guiding them…they found this to be quite strange, and right after they noticed that, they found a strange glowing red runestone on a worn down but obviously man made pillar. It seemed like this was the only part of the town that wasn’t maintained. Further upstream, there was a giant rib cage that obviously didn’t belong to anything human. They wondered what had lived here before. Their first guess was pirates, but that wouldn’t explain the skull and the ribcage. A few days later, the anthropologist disappeared. For years, nobody knew where they were, and they were presumed dead. But then out of nowhere, they came back and started doing everything as if nothing had happed. When asked how they had come back, they would just say, “huh? I’ve been here the whole time.” And go back to doing their things. Nobody knows what happened to that anthropologist, but nobody really wants to find out either… (This ended up being SO long I’m sorry)
I think this would be super cool, also just a thought,I forgot who, maybe Cleo, but someone is building a large hole with a giant monster in it trapped,if the monster looks humanoid or has the build of a human at the same size scale it would be cool lore implications for where the skull and rib cage came from maybe another kind of that monster
For the glowing ruin, use Deepslate redstone ore, that was it ACTUALLY starts glowing when you put your hand on it (aka when you activate it by punching it), like in Dredge! You could also add some redstone that makes it so when you activate it, it plays a scary sound affect at the same time ^^
Put the ribs inside the tunnel to Etho's, so when you're boating through it you go through the center of the rib cage. A long serpentine rib cage with a snake skull on one end would be neat.
I like the amount of clutter the base has. I think that the clutter leans towards it being scarier, and that if it was really clean and polished it wouldn't have the creepy Dredge feel
Fun fact that I just noticed. 3 of the four most recent seasons of Hermitcraft had a giant skull somewhere on the server. In season 7, Stress's base was a giant skull. Season 8 didn't have one, but Xisuma lived under a giant skull in Season 9, and now both Gem and stress have skulls in season 10.
There have been a lot of skulls built on Hermitcraft over the years, haven't there? I can't remember if the first one was in season 1 or 2, but I can at least say it got started pretty early. Haven't watched any of seasons 3, 4, or 5, so I don't know if there were any skulls built in those worlds, but if there were it might even average out to one per season.
To make the rock glow, you could replace the one block with a frog light, then put item frames with map art to match the basalt? It’s kinda a grindy way of doing it, but it gives you that custom, otherworldly feel
if possible you could add little crabs and mudskippers (I have no clue how, they're just the silly creatures you see there), I love how it's getting along so far
@frisout Cleo made a few crabs for Keralis. I think it might be possible for her to make mudskippers. Also, it's awesome that you were able to go to a mangrove forest. It must've been amazing.
as an anthro major in uni I love the idea of an anthropologist in gems spooky base- also it could be cool to have to boat THROUGH the bones to get to Ethos
You should have gotten the packed ice mini block. As it would suit a building which has cold storage in it. Maybe the Fisherman's house due to how all the fish that was caught needs to be stored or else they'll turn rotten.
As an anthropology nerd, I’m *extremely* happy about the addition of an anthropologist to your build! I’m especially curious as to what kind of work or research they’re doing there!
I imagine in the Volcano you could have a massive lava pit at the bottom, and then with some enormous chains clinging to the sides holding up a giant platform with a PVP arena in the middle
as an aspiring naturalist that grew up in an area with a ton of mangrove trees, i absolutely love when people appreciate them like you did with this video! a fun fact that i rarely ever see, except in person or in photos from local community events, is that when mangroves are in shallow water, sometimes the roots will grow back upwards into the air, and i've been in areas where the roots growing back up are so thick, they look like weird blades in a field of weird grass. would probably not be worth the effort to replicate in minecraft, but i just thought i'd share since this episode brought up happy memories for me.
It would be super cool to have a fighting arena at the bottom of the crater where you can knock other people into the lava and have magma blocks to avoid.
For the glowing rune, u could make the block behind it into a stair and put a light behind so it glows through without being seen Edit- this only works in bedrock edition so it won't work
She could do that but she would have to change the blocks behind it to something that has a stair alternative! I think this is a great last resort idea incase she finds something else where she doesn’t have to change the blocks
@@rhydianosgames5959 I spend way too much time on the wiki, plus play Bedrock but watch Java UA-camrs so I end up with a bunch of weird parity knowledge like that. Definitely a great idea if it weren't for the parity issue. I've hidden lighting under/behind slabs and stairs a ton in my worlds.
I have been rewatching the episodes and I wanted to remind you that you have an elder guardian head that you could use for the fighting arena entrance or as away to add ambiante sounds throughout the base
If you can’t figure out how to make items glow, one thing you could do to simulate glowing is make the blocks behind the rune lighter and (if possible) more orange/yellow. Even if you do find a way to make items glow, that can still be a good way to emphasize the glowing.
I know that you have said that an anthropologist lives in the house but I just can't stop thinking of it just being a little house where Archaeologist Pixl ended up after ESMP. Like between the skeleton over on the side, the skull and the Lore, I just get reminded of Empires. Loving the entire vibe. I love the way that each of the houses has a little bit of lore and the way that it all works together to tell a bigger story that is then interacting with the other stories around you. Truly the best season of Hermitcraft!!
I actually think this base in particular, Gem, could stand to be more, if not cluttered, then packed in. It’s giving me a lot of Six of Crows/Ketterdam vibes, and I don’t know if you’ve read that (if you haven’t, you’re missing out!) but they have that old London pre-fire vibe of buildings just put wherever there was space for one, narrow, winding streets, a layer of grit and grime on everything, you’ve gotta have a dark heart to survive there kinda vibes.
I think it depends whether you want new bones or much older ones, because over time, bones get petrified. The older bones are likely related to the big skull and ancient creatures that were there long ago. But the white bones would be more fresh, coming from whales or other creatures that died recently and are roaming around still. so maybe instead of the very white bones there, you could try to integrate petrified bones in the terrain to tie in with the skull. The white bones could be used more discreetly and dispersed in the water, like they’ve recently been transported in the current of the tunnel. Or you could use both but then it might be too busy. As for the glowing rune, maybe putting a redstone block and putting something over it, so the red glow passes through the negative space. Perhaps even hooking up a daylight sensor to it.
It’s so cool watching Gem’s building process and to see how she thinks while she builds. I love when she does that tbh Also I’ve watched the magic mountain meeting three times already and it’s equally funny each time LOL
I honestly adore watching Gem videos before I fall asleep because they are cozy. The base of this season is PERFECT for that, even though it is inspired by a horror game.

Idea for lighting up the rune. Armor stands on red stone lamps hooked up to daylight sensors. Slab/stair on top so that the armor stand is dim/darker. I believe armor stands act like banners in cases like this. Will probably have to do a weird diagonal thing to fit it all in though.
You can hire Cleo to help let the coral sigil glow without interfering with the armor stands! Maybe they've got some ideas and experience to make that happen.
Anthropologist and archaeologist here! Having bones next to an anthropologists house would be accurate because both anthropologists and archaeologists study human bones. I mean obviously we don't have giant piles of bones outside our houses as decoration but the bones would still be thematically on point for an anthropologists house :)
regarding the anthropologist and the bones: I mean, as someone currently studying anthropology and archaeology, in the US archaeology is a subdivision of anthropology. Also, both are really interesting. Do whatever you vibe with, we'll love it :D
Gem, Anthropologists are also oftentimes archeologists. What if the anthropologist is studying the skull believing it to be a giant human. The ribcage is designed to be the little mound where the house stands over next to the mangrove canal. Instead of making the ribcage exposed out of bone, make a rock pattern into a terraformed mound and maybe some excavated parts reveal bones. :)
Use the ribcage to act as a support structure for the deck off that building. Could make it like the locals utulized the ancient bones to build by adding fences and wood keeping the ribs tied together!
Deepslate red stone ore with a daylight sensor to have something trigger it at night to glow could work for the rune. If you want some sort of sound to play it could also trigger that at the same time!
Idea! What if the rib cage is made of stone materials? That way, with it and the skull (and maybe future elements), lore-wise it would seem like the whole area contains the fossilized remains of a giant! Would explain the anthropologist's presence, and you could even add an archeologist if you wanted!
I’m not sure if others agree, but I like the cuts even when theyre not clean. It’s all entertainment and a bit of jankiness is part of the charm and lightheartedness of good content IMO!
Okay here me out Gem- little barnacles on the pillars or the bases of some of the structures by the water would be so cute! You could make them the same way you made the magic spiral. 😜
Maybe adding shroomlights around the edges of the rune would give it a little bit of light? Or you could substitute the glazed terracotta for crimson root if you want the glowing to be more subtle. A red candle would also blend in with the current design if you're not willing to change it
Just a thought… central nether portal which connects to each other’s bases, and/or, a collective area for farms. Another thought… make there be random locations around the base with portions of a skeleton, these are all one skeleton, remnants of the last of a giant of a tribe of giants that once inhabited the area.
Instead of having a rib cage, you could make it a bony hand to imply that the skull on the mountain is only the tip of a massive skeleton under the ground, you could have the finger bones arching over the entrance to the tunnel- it’d be sick
These snails are getting wildly out of shell! I think it would look spectacular if the Magic Mountain members blended the volcano with the cherry grove and made a really magical biom. The anthropologist shack is coming along nicely, liking the trees too. Maybe spread the rib bones out and use them as a base for lamps?
I absolutely adore the flag lore! I love little details in builds, it always makes me so happy and I appreciate it so much! I like when there's a reason to everything or at least to a lot of stuff. You can definitely tell you put a lot of your heart into these builds and they look magnificent!
In the water you can add little spikes using like brown candles if you can place them underwater, as freeshly grown magrove propagules are like little sharp sticks growing out of the muddy ground/sea floor. And man do they hurt like hell to walk on
In case anyone is interested, Gem oversimplified what anthropology is. It isn't really the study of humans, but the study of aspects of human in society, either pas or present. As an example of what anthropologists do, there is a great documentary called "Metal : A Headbanger's Journey" who goes pretty deep into the origin of metal music, the story of many major groups who had an impact on the genre, how it spreaded into multiple genres and how the fans act. That's squarely within the field of anthropology since it also take into acount the impact of that music genre onto society, the backlash against that music, a few court cases against some groups of music and all of that. A really interesting documentary that really help understand what kind of scientific field anthropology is.
If I was asked to define anthropology, I would, like Gem, say it’s the study of humans. From my perspective, what you’ve described is absolutely anthropology. However, I would argue that it fits within the sub-field of sociocultural anthropology and that there are anthropologists in other sub-fields who do work outside of your definition. I’m always interested to learn more or hear different perspectives if you want to share more. Also, that documentary sounds super interesting, and I’m gonna have to look it up! Thanks for sharing:-)
@@cassybugse Thanks for your point of view. I see why you would see it like that, but the thing is, the fields who really study humans would rather be psychology and psychiatry, one focusing on the mind and how it interact with the world, the other focusing on the worse ailment of the mind and how it affect their victims. Psychologists and psychiatrists aren't just there to help people feel better, they also do a lot of reasearch to better understand humans and their minds. Anthropologist, thought, are more interested in the effect of humans in their respective society, or rather in their groups. Humans are, after all, herd animals and what they do affect the others most of the time. Not always in a big way, and sometimes not at all, but most of the time, they do. Example of things an anthropologist might be interested in that would have a big effect on others would be the reasons being crimes and gangs, politics, what are the main aspects of cults, the effect of cyclists not respecting the laws and cycling in the center of the road (better known as their self-importance) which cause more accidents, the leading cause of trafic accidents and so many more things. All of them would fit an anthropologist field of work. If you are interested in some example with little to no effects on other... The attraction of bowling, why is fishing at the same time so popular and so soothing, the effect of reading clubs on the imagination of childrens, are video games good to help increase hand-eye coordination and reflexes, those kind of things who doesn't have a lot of repercusions in truth, but are very interesting in themselves. They would all fit perfectly in that field of work too. Now, don't get me wrong, I am no anthropologist, but I have an interest in the field and all it means. To befair, I have a huge interest in just about everything I can learn about withsome exceptions... That's why I know as much as I do on that field even without being a part of it. I've read and watch many documentaries, I've looked for the deffinition of the word and it's rammification and all of that. I'm far from perfect in my knowledge though, but that base, I'm sure I'm right about.
@@rebaxbayushi577 Thanks for sharing your perspective! I’m not an anthropologist either, so I totally get where you’re coming from about having an interest in it despite it not being my field or career. I’m just a biologist who loves the field and took as many anthropology courses as I could in my undergrad (not as many as I would’ve liked though!). I also really relate to what you’re saying about having an interest in most things I can learn about, which is really cool! Part of the difference in our definitions seems to be semantic. I think we interpreted the phrase “the study of humans” differently. To me “the study of humans,” could also be phrased as the study of humanity, which I think has two interpretations that, while slightly different, are not fundamentally at odds. To me they are both aspects of anthropology. Humanity could refer humankind/humans as a collective, and I think that collective is what you mean when you refer to human societies or groups. This is why I do not think we disagree on a fundamental level. However, I think humanity also could be interpreted as humanness/what it means to be human. I could see some overlap with the second interpretation and psychology, but I think psychology is focused on the human mind specifically, while anthropology looks more at a bigger picture of what it means to be a human in general, both individually and as part of a human collective. I agree that psychologists and psychiatrists do study humans, but I wouldn’t necessarily that define either of those fields that way. I would define psychology as the study of human minds and psychiatry as the study of mental illness, which I think aligns with the way you describe those fields. I also agree with the things you’ve listed as potential things an anthropologist might study, but I also think they also describe things a sociologist might study. There is a lot of overlap between the two fields, especially when talking about sociocultural anthropology. However, there are other sub-fields of anthropology. To that end, I’d be curious how you fit biological anthropology into your framework of anthropology. Although a lot of work in that sub-field can be tied back to culture and society, the work of individuals in those sub-fields doesn’t always. For example, although there are connections between crimes and human societies, a forensic anthropologist may not be studying those connections. Instead, they may be studying human decomposition for applications in solving crimes. I think that the there are typically connections between what an anthropologist studies and society, but I do not think every anthropologist studies those connections. I do tend to agree with your inclusion of “past and present” in the definition of anthropology, as one definition I like that is a little more specific than what Gem said is the study of humans over time and space. I think this definition is more clear and is inclusive of all the disciplines of anthropology.
@@cassybugse I like your point of view. It is well developed with really good arguments and some weight and substance behind those arguments. They aren't just made out of opinions and feelings, something I see all too often these days and something that kill discutions, that's refreshing! Well, to answer your question, biology does have a big societal effect although we see people trying to erode it these days. For example, men tend to be taller and stronger than women, that's a simple biological fact leading to them working more often in physicaly intensive jobs. They also often are more logicaly minded, using the left side of the brain more when thinking, which push them in more scientific and mechanical inclined jobs. Looking at that and what could have pushed the human body and mind to develop like that could perfectly well be a domain of interest to an anthropologue. A lot of anthropologue studied those exact aspects and their influance on society as a whole and the litterature on this is both various and interesting, so it does have a really important place in the field. Now, to adress the exact example you gave... A forensic anthropologist does study something that affect society and not just individuals. Let's take a fatal bullet wound for example... A forensic would look at it, look at the place the bullet was found, study the trajectory of the bullet, look at the damage it dealt on both the body and the scene, look for other injuries to see if there was some struggle, look at the victim's hand to see if there are traces of gunpowder residue, all of that to help solve the crime. How does that affect society? If the criminal is apprehended thanks to his expertise, there will be less victims from the same criminal. Not only that, looking at all of that can help prevent those crimes more efficiently in the futur. So yes, it does affect tohe individual at first, but it have a large effect in the long run and each case is a research case for the futur in a way. Same goes for other crimes where they are needed. If they find a corpse in the forest, the state of decomposition, the injuries, the freshness of said injuries compared to others, the place the body was found, the traces around the body and many other things will help find if it was an accident,an animal attack or someone getting rid of a victim and trying to hide it all. Once again, it can help society at large by helping preventing crimes once the crime is understood, preventing accident by explaining how it happenned and how to prevent falling for the same trap or prevent more animal attacks by better delimiting a predator's hunting ground or habitat. They might not seem like much and their job might seem very focused on the individual, but their ramification are way larger than it first seems. I hope this answer your question in an acceptable manner, if not I'll try to do better tomorrow as it is rather late for me now. I'll admit I have a hard time finding the right words sometimes, English is my second language... By the way, I just cited what many researchers found in my examples. I'm not saying if I either agree or disagree with them, I'm just citing litterature here. I'm saying this for everyone because, in this day and age, citing any kind of litterature can lead to threat of violence or worse, so if anyone is reading this, please, let's remain civil.
putting the ribcage/bones mostly submerged under the water with just a block or so sticking out could reduce the cluttered look whilst still giving the vibe

Yea for sure. Dredge def somehow gives “clutter” vibes lol
Careful how you do it though. Clutter also means a well lived in cozy area
The phantom wind idea is fantastic. I think it really encapsulates the spirit of the base. It's more alive than it should be.

Oh snappers that’s a great idea 😂😂
Gems style is on point this season! I also love the volcano idea, mumbo will be so confused XD
I feel like a volcano would really fit gems base aswel. Just a little fishing village located next to a huge volcano island.
@@DreamlightStarriix Crazy thing is shes already built on an old Creative world!

To make the rock glow, you could replace the one block with a frog light, then put item frames with map art to match the basalt? It’s kinda a grindy way of doing it, but it gives you that custom, otherworldly feel
Last week I went to a real life mangrove forest in Hong Kong and I can't describe how excited I am to watch your interpretation of one !
if possible you could add little crabs and mudskippers (I have no clue how, they're just the silly creatures you see there), I love how it's getting along so far

Love seeing people's takes on mangrove. ^_^
It would be super cool to have a fighting arena at the bottom of the crater where you can knock other people into the lava and have magma blocks to avoid.
For the glowing rune, u could make the block behind it into a stair and put a light behind so it glows through without being seen
Edit- this only works in bedrock edition so it won't work
She could do that but she would have to change the blocks behind it to something that has a stair alternative! I think this is a great last resort idea incase she finds something else where she doesn’t have to change the blocks
Light only goes through slabs and stairs in Bedrock edition. In Java they block the light.
@@sambuma oh I had no clue thx for letting me know
@@rhydianosgames5959 I spend way too much time on the wiki, plus play Bedrock but watch Java UA-camrs so I end up with a bunch of weird parity knowledge like that. Definitely a great idea if it weren't for the parity issue. I've hidden lighting under/behind slabs and stairs a ton in my worlds.
spooky bones could go in the tunnel, with the spine in the water and the ribs coming up around the boats as they sail through
I have been rewatching the episodes and I wanted to remind you that you have an elder guardian head that you could use for the fighting arena entrance or as away to add ambiante sounds throughout the base
A crashed steampunk plane from tangos experiments might be a cool project and fitting from the dredge angle.

22:27 I absolutely love Pearls laugh here! 😄
Gem and Pearl bickering is pure gold
19:48 You need to make some drooping vines since it's a mangrove tree. If you read this Gem, please do this
Drooping vines would be cool! Also, sunsets as profile picture gang 😎
It’s so cool watching Gem’s building process and to see how she thinks while she builds. I love when she does that tbh
Also I’ve watched the magic mountain meeting three times already and it’s equally funny each time LOL

Idea for lighting up the rune. Armor stands on red stone lamps hooked up to daylight sensors. Slab/stair on top so that the armor stand is dim/darker. I believe armor stands act like banners in cases like this. Will probably have to do a weird diagonal thing to fit it all in though.
Idea: you could put the rib cage over the river so that you have to boat under it, that would fit the vibe you're going for.
WAKE UP EVERYBODY THE QUEEN HAS POSTED!
I like how they brought the meetings back !
Thanks to Pearl, I cannot unsee the pickle eyes.😅
I love how Geminitay looks like he's going to go over the shopping district
Lore Idea: Lyra the anthropologist, she's here to study the villagers and the hermits alike.
regarding the anthropologist and the bones: I mean, as someone currently studying anthropology and archaeology, in the US archaeology is a subdivision of anthropology. Also, both are really interesting. Do whatever you vibe with, we'll love it :D
Does Grian not know, everybody hates a group project 😂
I think a massive ribcage over the beach fighting area would look really cool, cause it would be part of the same skeleton the giant skull is part of!
I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M THIS EALRY YAYYYYYYYY
Gem, Anthropologists are also oftentimes archeologists. What if the anthropologist is studying the skull believing it to be a giant human. The ribcage is designed to be the little mound where the house stands over next to the mangrove canal. Instead of making the ribcage exposed out of bone, make a rock pattern into a terraformed mound and maybe some excavated parts reveal bones. :)
oh man another gem video!! the day is saved
Use the ribcage to act as a support structure for the deck off that building. Could make it like the locals utulized the ancient bones to build by adding fences and wood keeping the ribs tied together!
IDEA! Hermitcraft OLYMPICS, and it's held... in the VOLCANO!
Deepslate red stone ore with a daylight sensor to have something trigger it at night to glow could work for the rune. If you want some sort of sound to play it could also trigger that at the same time!
New gem and grian HC episode at the same time?! 🤔 Yes pleaseeeeeeee ❤️
Idea! What if the rib cage is made of stone materials? That way, with it and the skull (and maybe future elements), lore-wise it would seem like the whole area contains the fossilized remains of a giant! Would explain the anthropologist's presence, and you could even add an archeologist if you wanted!
I was gonna clean my room but who needs that?
I’m not sure if others agree, but I like the cuts even when theyre not clean. It’s all entertainment and a bit of jankiness is part of the charm and lightheartedness of good content IMO!
tree episode yippee!!
Okay here me out Gem- little barnacles on the pillars or the bases of some of the structures by the water would be so cute! You could make them the same way you made the magic spiral. 😜
RAAAAA!!!!
I love how the snail plot is the accumulation of Gem going “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.”
Gem and Grian be like to the snails “ Look at these distinguished gentleman, look at how they are sitting. Yes, yes, very distinguished” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Skull really fits with volcano pirate island vibes so nicely
Intros:
Gem: why, hello there!
Scar: well hello there!
Grian: today I need gunpowder!
You could make a rib cage arch that you can boat through, love the video x
16:43 my idea is to replace the glazed terracotta with redstone block. I'm pretty sure redstone block at least glow a little bit
i love the gradient in the mangrove as it really makes it feel more dynamic
@@rebaxbayushi577 I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize my message got so long! I love talking about anthropology
16:17 that's definitely snail eggs
To make the tunnel entrance spooky, you could have the entrance be a ribcage of a sea monster like creature. so you have to boat through them to use the tunnel.
