Hey everyone! Hope you enjoyed the video, as much as I enjoyed making it for you! I just wanted to post here that I will be trying to release more videos around the release of The Last Jedi, starting with a review on Dec. 13 after I see it. I am trying to create more videos for you guys around the holidays as a thank you for all the support you have shown me so far. Great things are coming, and you can expect more and more from Leia's Lair as it continues to grow. Anywho, just wanted to give a heads up and a big thank you, MTFBWY :)
According to The Paradise Snare, which is Book # 1 of the Han Solo Trilogy by A.C. Crispin, Wookiees like Chewie can't speak English, but they understand it just as well as their own language. Han can't speak Wookiee, but he learned it under the tutoring of another Wookiee friend of his named Dulana, who sacrifices her life so that Han can escape the slave ship he spent most of his childhood on.
Leia's Lair it's fresh as funny. I'm a die hard sw fan but dry talking makes me sleep. And as a trucker that's not a great idea. Your wit is a excellent change
My stepfather asked me recently who understands what R2-D2 says. I told him Threepio, who understands everybody, and Luke, who's probably the human that R2 spends the most time with in Episodes IV, V, and VI.
Loved the video new sub here would love more of your content well now I know how a jedi or a clone used to understand a droids language thank you a lot .
Binary means "that which is composed of two elements". The beeps, chirps, etc. of R2 are far more complex than binary. Unless I shouldn't take the word binary literally.
Speaking binary aloud but ALSO adding emotional tones is such an interesting concept to me. Especially since the Star Wars spaceborne universe(Galactic community), including droids, is around 40000 years old by the time of the Clone Wars. And yet they don't have a proper galactic internet. The holonet really sucks in speed and 95% of the galactic population couldn't even afford to use it, so it was really just an inner rim thing.
william blackmon Hey thank you, I'm glad you liked the video :) I honestly think it is my mic, I don't have the best quality one. Sorry haha I am trying to save up to eventually get a professional quality mic.
Chopper speaks direct English in Rebels, it's just run through a filter. Almost all of his dialogue is normal English, outside of a little bit of mumbling and grumbling here and there.
I've toyed around with it. R2's voice in the movies have no real translations, unlike some of the other languages in the films. People have done R2-D2 type translations by taking little pieces of R2's sounds, and writing a program that coordinates them to letters. That way, the different beeps each mean 1 letter in the english alphabet, and it can be translated. Of course, that wouldn't work when "translating" the movies, but it would end up being a technically functional language, inspired off of R2-D2's beeps.
Rey being able to speak droid and wookie, really hard languages to learn doesn’t make sense. She even knows how to fly a ship, and pilot training probably takes years. She grew up without parents in a desert world with no way to get an education- the entire sequels just needs to be reworked because so much in the movies doesn’t make sense in general and with established lore
they ruined the character by making her unrelatable. no hardships, knows everything and can learn everything after seeing it once or in some scenes simply pulling a high level sith power out of her arse. never forget the fight scene vs the royal guards rey died like 3 times but what eves. lastly remember how super strong and badass and cool Supreme Leader Snoke was? yeah me neither dude died to a sneeze.
Maybe they have a universal translator. Oops that is star trek speak wrong topic. Sorry i'm just being a little bit funny. But any way. Some like Anakin who has been around droids a lot and have become attach to them so they are familiar with the droids language then somebody who is not familiar with dealing with droids. Leia's Lair before you made this a topic i was wondering myself about it. Thanks for giving me the low down 😊😉
Best just not to think about this too much. The truth is it's just a quirk to make R2-D2 sound cute. A lot of his noises sound like a baby cooing and that's why people love him. If you make the mistake of thinking about it at all, it makes zero sense that droids can understand spoken galactic basic (requires a good microphone, speech recognition, and very advanced AI to not only recognize WORDS in every imaginable accent, but to understand the meaning of sentences) yet they don't even have the simple text-to-speech tech that you could have had on your home PC in the 1990's.
Can't I just push a button and pull the wire? ...... Please .... This droid thinks it has XP ... But needs a Linux memory wipe .... That's all princess ...
The droids don't have a real language, aside from Chopper, specifically. R2-D2's sounds are sounds only, there is nothing to translate. You can't actually listen to any of R2's beeps and understand any words out of it, only the tone and the context of the movie. The exact same R2-D2 sound can play, and have two completely different meanings in the script.
You’re not supposed to really understand. Basically they’re beeps and boops indicate what they’re trying to emphasize. That’s why they beep and boop in different tones. Those closest to R2 and BB8 know what he’s trying to emphasize because he uses different beeps and boops.
If you think about it, language is just a sound. Our language is just like beeps and boops. We understand what we’re trying to emphasize by the sounds of our words. Think about it, it makes since.
@@Killswitching I meant from a film perspective, they droids sound effects don't actually translate to anything, they're just sound effects. They convey emotion, but the literary meaning is made up. We can't actually understand "droid speak", but it's portrayed as if it were a language. I'm fully aware of how the droids voices are done, haha
So Rey just understood bb because it fit the plot. Gotcha. Just like how she became a powerful Jedi with no training, because it fit the plot, gotcha. And i don’t want to hear that she trained across three movies, because so did Luke, and he still got his ass kicked.

ICraftedM 85 😂
She does have VERY Nice Hair......🤔
I did too. Till you ruined it haha
hah :)
If you haven’t already, could you do a video on how Han could understand Chewie? I’ve always wondered
Heyits Jay Yes for sure! I will add it to my future videos list, stay tuned :)

benvolio15 See Solo
In the movie Solo, Han can understand Chewie and he’s in the process of learning that language
Theres books on how to speak droid and wookie and other languages I’ve read all of them ik how to speak wookie and droid
I could sometimes literally understand chopper, because his beeps sounds like actual words.
Don't think I've ever been in the top 5 view before. I love this channel!
nick oakley Thank you so much for your support! :D I'm glad you like the channel

you forgot anakin and apparently rey now
@@michaelschneider2692 lots of the Jedi too
i was studying star wars language’s came across this and told myself, “ beeep boop bop pew woo”
translation: cool
did it ever occur to anyone why with the tech they have don't just speak normie. google needs to update there droids
The computer one on starfighters could be explained that sound does not travel in a vacuum and could be a back up if the radio was damaged
Glad you got a new mic 😊
The Milk Man haha yes I did, still not the best but a lot better than what I was using. Now to just save up some more for a professional quality one 🤑
Leia's Lair: A Star Wars Channel Lol last one sounded like Neil Armstrong saying his speech on the mic
Loved the video new sub here would love more of your content well now I know how a jedi or a clone used to understand a droids language thank you a lot .
Naresh Malla Welcome to the channel :)
So they use binary code?

Awesome video! *LIKES* I was curious about this one :3
JediDoomWolf JediDoomWolf thank you! :) I was definitely curious about this topic as well
I wish to hear C3P0 and separatist battle droids beeping on binary.
I like the topics you cover, great video!
Johro No ́k Thank you, I try to go over what I find interesting as a Star Wars fan in hopes that others feel the same :)
@@LeiasLair Great work! We do! MTFBWY
Thanks for making this video

Not an issue or anything but what's with your audio? I keep hearing an echo(?) Or something on your voice. Great vid!

At the same time I can and can’t understand what Chopper from SW Rebels, is that weird?
Chopper speaks direct English in Rebels, it's just run through a filter. Almost all of his dialogue is normal English, outside of a little bit of mumbling and grumbling here and there.
One of these days I hope someone creates a real droid language that is both functional and practical.

@@Intrepid_Crusader1096 LOL sorry I did not notice this typo, thanks!
@@Silicon14YT Aw man! I was hoping you wanted a droid pirate. That idea seemed kinda cool.
I always knew it was something like that thanks for clearing it up.👍

@@adventures_w_otto1370 Her character would have worked better if she was a female clone of Palpatine instead of being his granddaughter.
Great video!!
How individuals can understand droid ?
Aswer: Because they can ...
Fascinating
what software do you use for your female narrator text to speech?
It’s not text to speech
Can anybody translate what R2D2 Says?
Droid:Beep beep beep boop
14 Year old white girls:Oh shit that's deep

So the reason some people can understand binary is because some people can understand binary.
