31:25 I think it telling you what the sign says is the feature that is disabled due to a bug. Edit: Just looked at one of the videos on its steam page and it most definitely is. In the video, they look at a poster and it gives the japanese audio and writing in plain text with the english translation next to it. Hope that gets fixed soon.
This game looks SICK. I haven't been keeping up with your videos, but I'm a fellow Nihongo learner myself, using Duolingo. Definitely gonna get this game
Here's a fun fact: The building at 12:53 with the dog in it is meant to pay homage to a now defunct tobacco shop in Hokkaido that was known for being run by a Shiba Inu by the name of Ken-kun.
One of the most surprising and amazing things about learning a new language to me is how you’d go from not understanding a single thing let’s say in a song to understanding the meaning of it. It’s mind blowing to me how with enough practice you can completely change how you hear and see things. This game looks amazing!!!
A game like this is exactly what I was looking for when learning Japanese. I’ve wanted to learn Japanese for years now and have been trying but losing interest multiple times do to it being difficult and boring (due to your typical books and straight forward lessons) but a game like this that actually keeps you engaged and entertained is what I needed. I hope the devs continue to add upon what they have made here!
At some point in the past, the Japanese language adopted the Chinese Kanji into their alphabet - but since they already had their own words for the ideas those Kanji recognized, they just attached their own existing words to the symbols; that's why they're pronounced differently. I don't know anything about Chinese; I'm curious if most of the ideas are the same even if the pronunciations are different? Like can you understand the symbol for "mountain" but just pronounce it differently?
@@drawingdragon I know. I was just pointing it out. Also, the meaning are the same. I noticed that the same characters are used for student but it was just pronounced differently.
It would honestly be really cool to see more players and youtubers play games related to language, a lot of them are very interesting on the planning and the way the creators can make a whole new vocabulary using unique symbols If you'd like to see one that's focused on discovering and understanding unknown words, I could recommend "Chants of Sennar", it's pretty fun, don't know how much do you like puzzles and stealth missions but it's still a very fun game
This game is ADORABLE. I've been learning Japanese just very casually over the last few months, mostly alphabet and grammar, so I'm struggling a lot with vocabulary and pronunciation because I've been doing mostly textbook stuff. This looks PERFECT for just moving at a casual pace for fun and making your own little memory games out of it. I missed how much the game costs, but I will probably give it a try, especially if they're still working on it and expanding it! Also the borrowed English words pronounced in Katakana was one of the funniest things I didnt expect about Japanese lol. The amount of words that are just English words pronounced in a heavy Japanese accent was unexpected and honestly really funny. The onomotopeia are hard to remember at times but also really interesting; I didn't know "fuwafuwa" for "fluffy" and that's adorable
Mike might be the only person who learns japanese because of anime whose journey I actually respect because he takes it seriously, he dives deep and doesn't just learn the usual shounen terms, he's not a show-off and thus not annoying. ofc if you're like this too I feel the same. this is part of why I hate the sub vs dub argument, people who argue against dub are the people who are annoying about speaking a little japanese, and I prefer dub because I don't want to learn japanese but I want to understand wth is going on, and I'll admit it, I'm a slow reader. But honestly this game looks so fun, if I ever change my mind about learning japanese I'll be sure to buy it. Better than the owl app for sure
7:50 that is actually quite wrong. When I started learning japanese I was looking for some tutorials and tips/tricks and I stumbled upon some chinese girl that tried to learn japanese kanji in a month (or something like that) and she actually tought it would be really easy because chinese has kanji too but aparently they are different so she had trouble with it too.
Basically, a very very basic explanation is that Japanese consisted of Katakana and Hiragana alphabets already - then after coming into contact with the Chinese, the Japanese language adopted the Kanji symbols. BUT since Japan already had its own words for existing Kanji, they simply took the visual symbols but attached their own original Japanese pronunciations. They didn't do this for every single Kanji, and instead adopted some of the Chinese pronunciations too, which is how you end up with multiple pronunciations for Japanese Kanji. And then of course over time, the Japanese language adapted like any language so you end up with compound Kanji that dont exist in Chinese, or Kanji that are archaic in one language and still used in the other... In short, a Chinese speaker might RECOGNIZE Japanese Kanji as looking similar or even identical to their own Chinese Kanji, but it's very unlikely they'd be able to actually translate it 1 to 1.
Well if she is trying to do something like that in a month of course its going to be hard. I never said its super easy necessarily but they do use a lot of the same symbols so its a huge head start when you compare it to an English vs Japanese. At least with Chinese and Japanese they do have overlap in terms of reading. When it comes to speaking its a completely different story.
Please make more content about learning Japanese!! I’m learning in university but there are only a few classes for it… would love to learn some study tips for once I don’t have a sensei teaching me directly
Learning a language is hard. I used to have bursts of "ooh, I'm gonna learn this language, and then this one and that one..", and it didn't really get me anywhere. I guess for pepople like that, you should pick a language or two to be the main ones that you're gonna learn, try to focus mainly on them and take your time.. I would totally be interested if Bijuu started teaching japaneese though! that would be more effective than doing a lesson on duolingo once a year...... Also I really didn't expect getting scrub of the day!! I'm so happy I won't be able to get any sleep- I guess you could say...Getting scrub of the day made my day (I'm bad at this, sorry, okay??)
Yeah I think I was planning on learning like 5 languages and I lost motivation for all of them so yeah I just wish I could push myself to at least learn something
I was gonna learn languages especially i wanna re learn Japanese language but because i got lazy so i don't find right time to learn languages. Also i currently learn Korean, but again same problem. Maybe i follow what Mike suggest about how long spend time learn languages if i have to seriously learn language. Otherwise i go to slow learn method. Out topic. Editor person, i laugh it when show Drew McIntyre's pic on 3:19. So thank you to put that pic as a Wrestling fan.
i should show this to my japanese teacher LMAOO i bet she would be like "えー。。。ほんとう?? すごい すごい!!" lol she rlly enjoys hearing about other ways to learn abt new or different ways to learn japanese :3
I think that dog in the shop was a reference to this dog that "worked" at what i think was a roasted sweet potato stand in Japan, sadly I think the dog passed away a while ago
I loved this video! I have been wanting to learn Japanese for a long time now but never knew how. I would definitely watch all your videos if you did a channel to help people learn Japanese.
Yk i think if there was an app, smthin like this game, where you take a picture of your real life surroundings and it gives you the word for that in the language you are trying to learn that would be sick. You start to associate things you see in ur day to day life with those words so it makes it long lasting
12:17 yeah same it's effective reading wise. But when writing there's no skipping that and it huuurrts, atleast the japanese keyboard spares me by giving me the kanji when i write it in hiragana ,but if i write it on paper it takes alot of time which's alil frustrating at times. But when you break down some kanji into parts you see repeated across them i found that it makes it easier !
I’ve currently been trying to learn ASL and while certain parts like topic comment structure can be hard for me, I still find it interesting and fun to practice!
It would be nice if you made a channel for learning the Japanese language. I've never seen this game before but thanks to your video I was able to learn a little more Japanese 😄(I dreamed of learning some)
Great video for learning Japanese! I could never learn that. If you want to learn a new language I’ll suggest you French but it’s a little bit hard. Altought great video!
yay this is pretty cool, i learned katakana and hiragana back in colllege when i was 16 or 17 and i knew some verbs too, i use to eveb make basic sentences. but now i think im poor at it again
I really wish I could play this game but it’s 25 dollars and my dad is really conservative and would never allow it which makes me really sad, cause honestly I think this game is and amazing way to learn I think the best ways to learn a new language is to make it a game or slowly immerse yourself deeper I love been learning French at school and they completely miss the mark learning should be a chore it should be a game and fun! It’s really amazing seeing others really love learning a new language
Yeah. You don't need to create cards for all of Kanji. You should look up meaning of it when you come across it, and just read more. Eventually you can understand a lot

Well🫡. The joke will make sense soon enough.

You are my favorite youtuber by a long shot, thank you for entertaining me for a long time.
If I wanted to learn Japanese, I would just risk my life with Duolingo
I am risking my live! 😀
Nobody learnt a language with Duolingo
Duolingo is more of a, step . Honestly, like something you do when you are bored.

The reason why I want to learn Japanese is to be able to read some videogames that I want to play 😂
