Thanks for this demonstration. My daughter and I started at and finished in 37 minutes after watching this video. It's easier with two people for sure I would be like most guys and be a little upset as you need another person if you have never done this before. I also fixed my broken icemaker after watching your video. Thanks as this saved me a lot of money for a repairman! Now I'm off to fix my rental property gasket.
Excellent video that covers everything you need to be aware of. I followed it exactly and got the new gasket on and working perfectly. However, for my unit I did have significant difficulty getting all four corners in place. There were plastic trim sections on the top and bottom of the door that got in the way and only one could be removed. Also I needed to stretch the gasket to get it around the corner edges which also needed to be pried up with a small screwdriver to get the gasket edge underneath. But I got it done! Thanks for the most excellent instruction to us DYIers.
Thanks so much for this video! I changed out the gasket on my freezer and everything was exactly as shown, and now it works perfectly. Instead of having to spend a grand + on a new fridge, it was less than a hundred dollars to get the new gasket to keep her going for another couple of years. The seal is perfect- even better than on the not-damaged fridge side! The whole operation took me and my kid half an hour.
I don't care if you don't really need to take the door off... I just watched a 10 minute refrigerator repair video without skipping... and I dont even need to replace my gasket. This man is pure how-to video magic. The hair, the cadence, the the confidence oozing out his big brass nuts must be respected. Game recognize game, sir.
THANK YOU! The tips about starting in the corners is a life safer. I've done a few of these now and never thought to do it that way. This is much easier!
There were some good tips in this video. Using a nut driver handle to push in the gasket worked well. This could be done with the door attached. My KitchenAid has a wide groove for the gasket to fit into, making it even easier.
Easy to follow tutorial. Probably took about half hour. Yes; I took the door off. When you’re older; it just makes more sense. Now I need to adjust my door height.
I just did this with the gasket that does not have the metal lip, but one that came from a used unit. The ridge that embeds into the channel in the door requires that you have a plastic pry tool to lever the gasket under the door lip. I had one for other purposes, bought from Amazon, which is about half an inch wide with shallow steps along the pry side, and blue in color. It came in a multi-pack of pry shapes. This tool lets you more easily slip the ridge into the door channel. I did it with the door attached and it took about 45 minutes. It will require a lot of finger and forearm effort. The key with this type of gasket is to get a part of it near (but not on the corner) embedded first, because it’s impossible to force the corner in otherwise. The metal lip gasket is most likely designed for replacement purpose, as you won’t be fighting to squeeze the gasket in, but rather simply pushing straight without prying as the video shows.
Glad I found this video before removing my old gasket. New Gasket W10407212 for my Whirlpool french style refrigerator door is very similar to this one. If I would have just tried to pry off my old gasket as I saw in another video, it would have destroyed my inside door panel. All is well after watching this video and taking about 40 minutes to install.
Thank you very much! Before I saw this video, I was with the impresion that it was needed to remove the entire inside panel to reemplace this kind of gasket.
Incredibly helpful. The only difference I experienced that I felt may be helpful for someone else is that I lined up the corners precisely, but had to insert the black flap and inch or two down the line and come back towards the corner with the small round push rod to get them to go in. I feel like Tom Hanks in Castaway... "I have made fire!" Thanks APP
I was wondering what I was going to have to end up doing with the gasket I got shipped to me. It is all creased and whatnot, and I was thinking I might have to send it back! Thanks for the tip on heating it up a little bit.
The one box was so tore up, the shipping invoice fell out of the box! A huge hole on the side! I ordered one for the fridge, and one for the freezer. Unfortunately the fridge is the wrong size, so I have to send it back to Sears... It's not as bad as the freezer though, so I'm not too worried about it.
Taking the door off - easy. Taking off the old liner - easy. Fitting the new gasket around the corners - an hour and a half of fits and starts, with lots of cussing along the way. By the time I finally got them fitted, two of the corner seams had split. These Whirlpool/Kenmore gaskets no longer ship with a rigid fitting to go under the lip - it's all soft gasket material and tears very easily. My suggestion - you can do all the work of taking things apart, but hire a pro to fit the new gasket. If it tears, it's on his dime.
ok an hour later, after much howling into an empty kitchen... bike tire levers sort of worked out ok. they're designed for getting the bead of a bike tire seated in the rim, and they're rounded so that they don't gouge the tire, so they were perfect for this. also it helped to loosen the screws holding the inner door panel, just a turn or two, so the edge of the channel was easier to lift, and then tightening them again once done with a section.
Not all these type seals have the hard plastic lip and they are a real difficult thing to get back into the door liner. I did mine without removing the door and man that bottom section made me crazy!!. I’d certainly recommend taking the door off for sure with this type of seal. Used a hairdryer to soften the seal once it was on for a perfect seal.
@@appliancepartspros Thank you very much for the guide, it was the only video guide I could find that dealt with this type of seal - all the other push in type seals look a heck of a lot easier than this type. Many thanks for the tips, helped me out here.
Great video. It sure makes it easy when people who have done this before take time to video your work and show it to the rest of us backyard mechanics. I'd hate to pay a person to do something only to find out it was a real easy job. BTW, I noticed in the last half of the video you chose not to use gloves. Why'd you use them in the beginning of the video? I hate wearing gloves in any type of repairs. Hard to use gloves and tools same time.
Todd White I usually always wear the gloves, they are pretty thin. Occasionally I cannot get the feedback through them and I take them off, in this case I could not tell if the gasket was going in between the door and the door liner.
Besides I can't believe how expensive is the gasket, when I bought my refrigerator it cost 500 dollars and one gasket replacement cost 71 dollars, is almost the fifth part of the cost...
Removing a refrigerator door does make it easier, but it is certainly possible to remove and replace with the door on. When I replace the gaskets, I seldom if ever remove the door--it doubles my labor. Especially on higher end brands like Sub Zero, Lebherr, Monogram, etc.
Thought, before replacing the new rubber seal would it be good or bad to add a small amount of some kind of grease/lube to help it go in..? Or would that just help it pop out later..? Thanks!

You DO NOT need to REMOVE the DOOR from the refrigerator OR the freezer to REPLACE the GASKET - this is WAY MORE WORK than necessary!!! Why do "Pros" always do things the HARD way!?
Remove the top half of the gasket with the door in place, Install the top half of the new gasket. Once in place remove the bottom half of the old gasket. Finish installing the bottom half of the new gasket. No need to remove the door.

My refrigerator gasket has come away from frig causing air gaps. I was told to use hair dryer to soften gasket push it in place and close for at least an hour. I have done this when gasket is cold it contracts and pulls away from refrigrtator and cold air escapes. I have had sears out twice for same problem. It doesnt want to stay close to refrigerator. what do I do?
Quite by accident I found this video and we have this exact fridge.. What are the odds? Anyways..It might just help to do a few things first.. Turn water (and power) off if turned on and also remove door handles if laying flat. It's just 4 little screws..
Thanks for the tutorial. Question though is could my fridge be just not level and full of condiments on the tray thats why when we shut it it doesnt seal all the time or bounces back a bit leaving a small gap and we have press on the door to shut it or close it gently? Thanks again
I've got the same issue and I'm leaning towards the theory that my seal is just getting old and worn out. The extra weight of the items in the door and the fact that it gets used more that the freezer door is why I'm thinking that this seal might be failing sooner than the freezer door......I'm not an expert though and it's just a theory. I'm thinking about replacing my seal.
I checked it today and you could be right. The magnet doesnt stick quite as good as my other fridge so Im geting me a new seal from APP, hope that solves the problem. Thanks for your reply

Tutorial on how to remove a defective door gasket on an old refrigerator by showing us the removal of a perfectly fine door gasket from a very clean, like-new refrigerator door. 😄
Karen Alhakim If it is one of the specialized boat brands we do not. If it is one of the brands we list on our site then as long as you have a model number we can look it up and see.
I just took off the old gasket and replaced it with a new gasket in literally 5 minutes!!! There is NO need at all to remove the door!!! That would have wasted time & energy!
How do I replace bottom gasket without removing the door?Cause it's really nearby floor. Is that more convient to replace the refrigerator if I lie it down on floor?
DPT- Of course taking the door off is optional. But I wouldn't say it is much wasted energy as there are only three bolts to be removed from the top and the bottom is just lifted off its holding peg. It is a lot easier to install the seal on a bench than having to lay down on the floor to install the bottom of the seal. I guess if you used a GPS to find an address they may give you instructions to take the interstate whereas Hwy 90 may get you to the same destination just a different route. Same thing here.
@@zedcartwright5267 LOL what a nonsensical bit of gibberish. It's having to empty everything out of the door as well as removing the bolts and then removing and reinstalling it vs getting down low and simply installing the new seal which is not that hard. Some people just like to do things the hard way.
sir can i question all door if same btu rubber seal is all the same like here in philippines samsung panasonic etc. how to buy tha in the supplier what can i say to supplier..please advise
All the seals are definitely not the same, particularly between manufacturers. You will need the correct part for your model of appliance. Unfortunately, we do not currently ship to the Philippines. However, the most reliable way of finding the correct part for your appliance is by searching using the model number. Once you know that, you should be able to look up the correct part for your appliance, then locate it either online or at a local parts retailer.

I just did this with the gasket that does not have the metal lip, but one that came from a used unit. You DO NOT need to REMOVE the DOOR from the refrigerator OR the freezer to REPLACE the GASKET - this is WAY MORE WORK than necessary!!! Why do "Pros" always do things the HARD way!?
Laura Sands a
You are right dear Laura.
So you can call them.
So they can charge u more
They get paid by the hour, that's why!
Would this cause the door not to close?
Well done video! Thanks
Remove the top half of the gasket with the door in place, Install the top half of the new gasket. Once in place remove the bottom half of the old gasket. Finish installing the bottom half of the new gasket. No need to remove the door.
Thanks for that tip.
excellent video .

It may be necessary to replace the gasket, then.

Does IT seals back quickly?
Very good video.
Thanks for your feedback!
This dude is trying to sell us something expensive. Heres the part number we need Part Number: AP4247867 . I found it here on youtube why the door is not shutting properly.
Mine did the same thing and found out it was the door cams. They were shot. I replaced them and the door closes on its own now.
good honest job. thank you

Do you have gaskets for boat refrigerators?
Karen Alhakim If it is one of the specialized boat brands we do not. If it is one of the brands we list on our site then as long as you have a model number we can look it up and see.
I just took off the old gasket and replaced it with a new gasket in literally 5 minutes!!! There is NO need at all to remove the door!!! That would have wasted time & energy!
How do I replace bottom gasket without removing the door?Cause it's really nearby floor. Is that more convient to replace the refrigerator if I lie it down on floor?
yeah no need to remove door LOL.What a waste of time.
Thank you. I was wondering what the point was to take the door off. No way I'm doing that lol.
Very helpful! Thank you very much!
Doing this nxt wkend!! Thanks sir!!
KATHRYN DE LEON You are welcome, glad the video helped you get the gasket changed.
Hi Matt. Thanks for the video and the explanation 😀
Merci beaucoup bravo bonne continuation
sir can i question all door if same btu rubber seal is all the same like here in philippines samsung panasonic etc. how to buy tha in the supplier what can i say to supplier..please advise
