- Celebrating the life and work of legendary jazz vocalist Ella Fitzgerald, Janis Siegel of The Manhattan Transfer and Italian vocalist Roberta Gambarini pay tribute to the “First Lady of Song” in a program that includes some of the songstress’s best-loved jazz hits. Supported by an ensemble from the Dizzy Gillespie™ All-Star Band, Ms. Gambarini and Ms. Siegel show how Ella Fitzgerald has influenced singers of today, share film clips of this remarkable vocalist, and perform well-known favorites from Ella Fitzgerald’s repertoire (recorded in 2010 at C. D. Hylton High School in Woodbridge, VA)
Just came across with this concert. It's nice to watch Janis Siegel, such a strong singer of Manhattan Transfer group. Had watched their concerts 2X. Haven't heard of Roberta Gambarini, but such a lovely singer, too. It picks up my curiosity and will research about her. And what a treat to showcase Miss Ella, the indomitable!
Ella is really the queen of jazz no one can compare. I absolutely love how they paid respect to Annie Ross. I love that lady as well. Two Queens! RIP. WE MISS YOU.
Beautiful, timeless music (and tribute)!
Roberta’s collaboration with Roy Hargrove is outstanding.
Long live Queen Ella, The Queen of Jazz
Roberta amazing singer ! Bravo!!
A great piece concert tribute to First Lady Ella. I really hope this memories concert will be released on cd soon. Greetings from Jazzman Kuala Lumpur.
...love Ella ...❤
Beautiful Lady's 😍
Janis segel è straordinaria, un talento naturale...gambarini piu impostata.
Wow
No irreverence to Ella, but her pre-eminent place among jazz vocalists should count only if it's shared with Sassy, the Divine Sarah Vaughan. Jimmy Jones was key to the greatest moments by Ella, Sarah ("At Mr. Kelly's"), and Nancy Wilson. But none of them pulled off a transcendent moment as Roberta Gambarini did with her inerrant vocal transcription of Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Stitt and Sonny Rolilns on "On the Sonny Side of the Street." I wish she'd do another like it. Why not "Moody's Mood for Love"?
