Looks like William Powell turned his buddy on to some "pre code wacky tobacky"! Love how Powell says to Kay Francis, "He'll wake in morning fresh and happy with a marvelous appetite." AKA The munchies. 🤣
@@LazyIRanch Actually it was 1937 is was federally outlawed and before that many states had placed their own variations of prohibition, especially the racist south
I've watched the movie RED DUST, with Jean Harlow and Clark Gable, numberous times, but at 0:10 it is obvious that Ms. Harlow is wearing some sort of skin tone top. I had never noticed that before, but this video is likely much higher quality than the VHS video I had from many years ago.
“Do you know that the guy said that machinery is going to replace every profession?” “Oh, my dear, that’s something that you never have to worry about” 😂😂😂😂😂 Thanks for posting this, I literally had tears coming out of my eyes!
How did u just find ur channel? Lol. I'm also a huge classic movie fan. It's fun to have these clips in small snippets. Hopefully these wonderful movies will find new fans. Thank you so much 🤗💞
I loved the Marx Bros "A Night at the Opera". Groucho and Margaret Dumont boarding the ocean liner. Dumont: "Do you have everything you need?" Groucho: "Haven't had any complaints so far."
"The longer they "NO!", the harder they "YES!". "I don't want to be honourable with you, unless it's absolutely necessary." "When I need someone to give me a darn good thrashing, well, I follow him around like a dog on a leash"
I must be hearing things, but I swear that one brunette at about 4:12 to about 4:27 sounds just like Fay Wray ('Ann Darrow" - "King Kong" - 1933). If it *IS* her, I thought she was supposed to be blonde? "He says, look at the golden woman." "Yeah, blondes are scarce around here."
But back in the 1930s, it wasn't. Plus, there are a lot of people here who'd point out some of the flirtation and what bosses do with their secretaries would count as sexual harassment.
There is no purpose. These are just clips from pre-Code films that, to me, are fun and may not have been allowed once the Production Code was enforced starting July 1934. For instance, after July 1934, there was no way the Code would allow a scene with a naked Jean Harlow in a barrel, or a scene where William Powell gets someone high on marijuana.
These jokes are actually hilarious lol.. You could put them in any movies today and they'd still be funny.
"Well, I'm not going to live in sin. Partially because he did not ask me to :/" LMAAAAAAAAAO

Marijuana was still legal then, only became outlawed in 1939. Mostly based on racism.
@J Chapman do you remember the name of that movie ? Saw it many years ago on TCM.

Seen a bunch of your clips in the past year but somehow never saw #1 until now! Thank you for all these that you do!
Glad you like them!

watch the stumble of shock when she says "I was reading a book the other day..."

Italics Mine oh, that was hilarious! 😂
Little did they realize that substitutes would eventually be created for that, too.
I love these classic films
These are great, I had not realized these old movies were so "cheeky".
They seem to be more 'natural' acting than the movies after 'pre code'.
Still think Marie Dressler's reaction and line tops them all.
Yes she's great very memorable
Perfect example of Pre-Code Hollywood! "You can't use it in 39 cities."

Just wonderful memories...Thanks.

3:18 Scene with Lucille Ball in the scene from Eddie Cantor’s Roman Scandals…
"The longer they "NO!", the harder they "YES!".
"I don't want to be honourable with you, unless it's absolutely necessary."
"When I need someone to give me a darn good thrashing, well, I follow him around like a dog on a leash"
First clip was used in Bakshi's "Heavy Traffic"
The guy with the joint is a hoot
The pre code films were the best of the Golden years of Hollywood. It all got pretty boring after that till the 1970s.
Black and white movies are awesome
We never needed the Hayes Code
Hollywood knew when to not cross a line
Without the Hayes code, the federal and state legislations would have regulated the moviex
0:15 + 4:50 Jean Harlow, 1:00 Joan Crawford, 1:20 James Cagney, 2:15 Joan Blondell, 2:40 Barbara Stanwyck,
"Well, I don't want to be Honourable with you unless it's absolutely necessary"...
Watch the tobacco smoke descending (where it should have been rising) at 3:01. Wacky baccy indeed!
@randolph Well, of course it was. Even the Devil's weed has to obey the laws of physics. He was just pointing out an editing trick.
would be great to have a list of the movies shown
Agreed, some that I recognised: The Jewel Thief, Blonde Crazy, Goldie, Golddiggers of 1933, Roman Scandals, I'm no Angel
Belles, beautifuls, wonderfuls all 😍😍😍😍
How charmingly innocent.
Lucille Ball (very young) in Eddie Cantor's Roman Scandals.
Aaah , Those were the days . . . ....
Mae West - she was amazing, shocking, unique!
@3:18 = 22 year old Lucy Ball

That is Fay Wray from the film "Black Moon" (1934). Wray was a brunette. She wore a wig in Kong.
Look real quick for Lucille Ball at 3:18.
That's a clip from "Roman Scandals" from 1933. www.imdb.com/title/tt0024507/
I'm not real sure about that.
She mentions automation, that machinery will take over. Uberly scary...
project melody?
Barbara Stanwyck st 2:39
You're right! She was gorgeous, intelligent and classy!
These are pretty tame by today’s standards…
But back in the 1930s, it wasn't. Plus, there are a lot of people here who'd point out some of the flirtation and what bosses do with their secretaries would count as sexual harassment.
Whats the purpouse of these videos... Please teach us.. Promise i will teach the others...

@@michiganjfrog interesting . I didnt know. Thanks for the info.
If you don't want guys saluting, take down the flag.
Good gosh great words to live by...
I've got to remember that one for a time when I can use it - "sister, if you don't want guys to salute ya, then take down your flag!" Brilliant!
Cagney was GREAT in all his movies... ONLY one minor flaw.. he talked TOO fast.. hard to understand every word of dialogue
The code was so stupid.
Not all of it
2@azwwJ
Joan Crawford is infact great actress but she ain't beautiful nor pretty....
Disagree. She looked like a different person as a young woman.
You wasted your time.
