I do not disagree with you that the Atari 800 is far more superior in graphics over the 2600 but the Atari 800 was $1000 as were the Atari 2600 was $190. But with that being said the 800 is a home PC and the 2600 is just a console and for the longest time PC's always had better games and graphics until the consoles finally caught up with the hardware of a PC I have watched many Atari 800 game videos and the near if not exact arcade quality of them puts the 2600 in the dirt in comparison So many of us only had the 2600 and we loved them, I didn't know of anyone who owned an Atari 800 so I never had the chance to ever play one. I personally had a Commodore 64 but I loved playing both my 2600 and the C64 even though the C64 had much better graphics
The 2600 was total crap. Now my old 800 - that's different. Star Raiders, Missile Command, Centipede. Good times...

It did pretty well for a machine that was designed to play Pong
