Thanks for the beta bites fish food pellets info I am going to get that for my plants right now thank you love your plants by-the-way they look very healthy🥰
in the begining of the video, if you look closely you will see trigger pods around the outer edge. they have no dew on them. when feeding the plant stroke them , they snap over pretty fast and help the process of rollin over the prey.
Is that a spatulata mountain back there? I got mine two months ago, but it turned a mushy brownish green, then made two babies under it. I was afraid it would smother them all and separated them. Is the clumping healthy for spatulata??
Thanks for this video. Sundews are definitely one of my favorite types of CPs. I've only been collecting for about a year, but I really enjoy it. You're vids are very informative and I'm not a subscriber.
I always thought SunDews were by far the hardest CP type to grow, I knew Venus Fly Traps were difficult, but I got one and some seeds and now I know that they are one of the hardest CP and ironically some SunDew like Spoon-Leaf Spatulata is one of the easiest CP to grow/reproduce/share (I ordered some seeds). One great thing about SunDew, is that they don't require the bugs to move and can be fed powdered food, while Venus Fly Traps REQUIRE the bug to move for over an hour.
There is a trick to feeding the fly trap without using live insects. You can use a small piece of freeze dried bloodworms rehydrated with distilled water. The trick is to massage the leaf after triggering it to close. The recommended rate is one stroke per second for sixty seconds. Be gentle. That should stimulate the digestion process enough. I'm lucky to have a back yard so my plants stay outdoors most of the year. When it gets bitter cold I have them ride out the dead of winter inside a shed attached to the basement stairs. As a result temperate CP's are very easy for me to grow.
William Albert The only problem I have with LIVE bugs, is that they can escape and it uses a lot of energy to close and open a trap. I heard I shouldn't give them ants, because their bodies burn holes in the trap because of the formic acid, which I have seen happen to mine, over and over, so I will no longer give it ants. House Flies seem to be fine.
My sundews and flytraps feed freely on gnats. The pitcher plants are more into wasps. The sundews and pitchers are far more voracious than the fly traps so I would go lightly on them if I had to feed them as indoor plants. My VFT seems to only work on two or three traps actively feeding at a time. Often only one. Ants would also be unwelcomed in my outdoor CP garden because they like to farm out aphids and scale insects on plants. I rather avoid those two plant diseases on my collection.
The link you provided says that they feed many leaves at a time in intervals of 1-2 months. Could you provide a useful indication of what is many in terms of percentage of leaves? I have trouble with vagaries.
i just got my sundew today an it has a flower on it but it already turned to seed form not sure when it will be ready to pluck it of but my friend got it for me as an late birthday present an i already have a venus fly trap an im also growng from seeds some pitcher plant i cant wait to get my carnivurous garden going thanks for this tip i hope this works :D
Another good trick for indoor flying bug control. I leave my top open at night for about 30 mins with a cfl light to help attract pests. Sundews eat live bugs, less flys or mosquitos.
Hello again, so keeping things cool when germinating the d.cristiflora seedlings I should not cover the tray with plastic wrap or place them in an enclosure to increase humidity? I kinda got the concept down bone dry during summer months & damp during the winter. Thank you again for all your wonderful advice. kyddoemiko.
ok, I'll test it first :) because here in europe, we don't have that specific type of fish pellets, that's why i was asking. Would it work for other CPs too? i guess so?
I'm struggling to get my drosera to produce dew, I don't have a way to check the humidity in my house but it's getting plenty of sunlight. It's leaves are also going brown and limp
Hi sundew man, I jusy started growing sundews. I have young plants of the d. Intermedia and the d. Filiformis. They are such a joy to have! However, I was wondering, is there such a thing as over feeding them? Coz 1 of my Filiformis leaves caught itself quite a few little flies!
I have a supply of meal worms of many sizes and will have this supply for a long time because i am breeding them would it be okay to feed a small mealworm to a sundew?
most interesting method of feeding sundews. I personally have used the dried blood worms. I will give your method a go at it as well. Thank you. I will need your help in germinating d.cristiflora seeds. please get in touch. kyddoemiko.
Why does my sundew not have any dew on it :((( it has been like that since I bought it. It's been 2 weeks now.. should I just wait for the new leaves to grow?
@@pastramichop Heyy thanks for getting back to me! It started to dew about 1 month after i got it. Now it's fed and it is getting better! It was kept in poor condition before I got it
Hi! I have a bunch of seeds I got on ebay, a mix of a lot of droseras that are from this year or last year (or should be). I have read that droseras seed last quite a long time... I have them in a wet tissue in a closed plastic thingie. Do they germinate like this? I have had success with dionaeas and I'm not sure they germinate like this too. I have tried to feed my d. aliciae with fish food but i didnt notice and I got flakes! It's a pain... they are for goldfish, is that ok?
Hey sundewman, I have some little venus flytraps do you think betta bites would work on them? I know I would have to press on the leaf about 20 to 30 times for it to stay closed but I wonder if it would work. Hmmm I think I'll give it a shot. I will let you know how it turns out.
What an impressive collection you have!
oh my GOD I'm so envious of your collection!!!! AHHHH
Thanks for the beta bites fish food pellets info I am going to get that for my plants right now thank you love your plants by-the-way they look very healthy🥰
2:12 that red capensis sundew looks amazing
I use a natural method to feed my sundews. I put them in my basement for a night, and when i bring it back up, it's well fed.
You might consider using a pill crusher to grind your pellets. They are available at most pharmacies.
i tested my little 'potion' today, the capensis and regia seemed to readily accept it... Thanks a lot man!!
God tier growing!!! Also love your page, super useful information, amazing that you also put scientific info there too!!!
That drosera is pretty awesome!
I love your collection!

William Albert Okay, Thanks.
Very good info, Aaron this has been the way I have been feeding mine and it does work well........Thanks
The first plant is gorgeous!!! What kind of Drosera is it?
what was the other plant you mentioned that didn't need feeding? drosera capensis and what was the other one?
drosera admirabilis

Can i constantly feed them. Like put in 2 leaves then once those leaves uncurl then i put another one again?
How your sundew are beautiful! How I'm new to this hobby.. How do you get your sundew produce that amount of dew??
Most likely the warm temps and high light levels
What kind of food you give them?
Another good trick for indoor flying bug control. I leave my top open at night for about 30 mins with a cfl light to help attract pests. Sundews eat live bugs, less flys or mosquitos.
Should I use distilled water

kyddoemiko.
Could I know what lighta and how many do you use? =) I have some flowering ultramaficas but I'm a bit insecure about what bulbs should I buy
would blood worm be suitable for nepenthes or cephiloutus ??? amazing plants by the way beautiful
ok, I'll test it first :)

Thanks a LOT! :D
So, pretty much any pellet-form fishfood would do the job?...
Why do you not want to feed your CPs as often as they can be fed, is it to gain knowledge about their tolerances?
I'm struggling to get my drosera to produce dew, I don't have a way to check the humidity in my house but it's getting plenty of sunlight. It's leaves are also going brown and limp
hi, what are the best lights to use for all cp's, mainly sundews? what do you Use? thanks

hello again,
can I feed a d. burmanii with a pellet of fish food?(not crushed , pure)
is that fine?
I just recieve my sundew but it been 3 weeks and no sap yet

make sure the post is always sitting in a little bit of water, but more importantly, it needs to be in the brightest light you can find.
@@pastramichop Heyy thanks for getting back to me! It started to dew about 1 month after i got it. Now it's fed and it is getting better! It was kept in poor condition before I got it
Can’t you just release pin head crickets(small, very small crickets) in there?

I fed my very little drosera spatulata with tetra fish food for koi, is that okay?
Can i buy one? I am looking after a sundew full growing one
Mine r babies what can I feed them?
I see sundews as nature's lollipops
How much and how oftem should I feed the capensis, I live on the 20 floor and there are no insects!
What should I do if my sundew wouldn't produce dew.
+Eric Kosoy it may need some more light or water.

Would freeze dried blood worms
Work?
most likely. it works for flytraps and pitchers.
Can I feed them a bit of sausage
No you can't, sausage is a man-made food and it can't be fed to sundews. Please research before getting your plant.
no meat at all. just bugs
I just sprinkle some crushed fish flake food on mine.
No live prey man this sucks
Come on. Seeing the plants eat living insects is half the fun with them.
What should I do if my sundew wouldn't produce dew.
You can't do much. Wait for new leaves to grow
