Solid ships, a believe it’s a good indication of how far ship design has come since the early stages. Gives me hope that we will see major improvements to the Connie’s down the road.

    • @johnboyd9713
      @johnboyd9713 9 місяців тому

Yeah. Especially since these kinda do what the Connie was concepted to do. I think the Connie is gonna be pretty heavily overhauled to really be a true large ship, now that the Zeus fills the medium slot on the RSI lineup.
I also think that these are peak modern ship design, but I would bet that old ships like the cutties and freelancers have their guns sized down again because they are pretty extreme outliers in terms of pilot DPS on medium ships when compared to everything CIG has released in the category since. This thing has the pilot DPS of a mid-tier light fighter, and the MR is ostensibly a combat ship, as is the Spirt A1, and the Cutty and Lancer outperforms both before including the crazy missile complement.

Yeah it seems like a luxury touring ship to me that'll get the two turrets of the bounty hunter and maybe the stronger armor of the cargo variant to be considered the safest variant. Probably doesn't have much or any cargo since those skylights are over the cargo hold, probably a living area of sorts.

    • @frostymeatpuppet2518

@@frostymeatpuppet2518It's hard to beat the S3 shield of the 400i.
Even the 4 x S2 of the ES variant don't even come close to it.
But how knows? Maybe, by sacrificing all cargo space, they manage to put a S3 in the ST variant.
I don't really like the style over function look of Origin ships and I'm still looking for options for my tough-as-nails, armed-to-the-teeth, doomsday space motorhome to travel the 'verse.
Maybe the Zeus ST is what i'm looking for.

    • @wafflesinsanity

@@qdaniele97one thing we don't consider now, but what is really important is the charging rates. The more shields you have, the higher charging rate to your shield emitter (also not often discussed). While a size 3 has a higher number, size 2s charge much quicker, adding more size 2s means higher charge and a higher number for consistent engagements and engagement.
Just an important thing to remember. Along with the fact the current shield numbers are homogenized and temporary until the balance pass.

I think for the ST, the windows above the cargo area suggest VIP transport, and it gets the VIPs to their destination using stealth. I think they dropped the concept because stealth isn't really in the game right now. The extra turret doesn't really make sense on a racer, but does to defend VIPs.

Blue is gonna be better solo, but they mentioned NPC crew repeatedly at citizencon, so maybe that isn't that relevant? I mean you are not really gonna be taking PvP targets solo with a Blue anyway and this has SO much more than the Blue for the same price, it just seems like this will still be able to take PvE bounties solo just fine.
The big difference is that the pilot on the blue for sure can activate the quantum snare from the pilot seat. This may not be able to, and that might not be able to be used by NPC crew either. Might be locking yourself into multicrew to use the snare, giving the Blue an edge, even in a fleet

That's probably the smoothest title card I've seen in a video.
As far as the Zeus ST being turreted, it could just be the in-lore reason. By UEE mandate, all ships are required to be armed. This was decided in the wake of the first vanduul invasion.
My personal concern about ships in general is about modularity.
What id like is the ability to kit out a Zeus to fit any of the 3 roles.
Do combat/hunting? Throw on the tail module for the cells and QED.
Doing cargo? Swap it with the cargo module.
Pathfinding? Swap it with a smaller cargo bay and larger scanning suite.
Doing hunting solo? Swap the large crew bay with a smaller personal quarters + armory.
There are a host of things I'd like to see, and I'm worried it'll never be.

CL's cargo grid could only fit if they go 3 rows tall, but comparing with the Spirit class cross-section that can only fit 2 rows, that would mean making the CL roof taller. Dev stated that the cargo would have to fit against the walls but the habitat doorway goes into the cargo bay so that doesn't work either. I'm 100% sure the Zeus will have to grow in size. It'll end up close to the Constellation in size but also faster/agile offset by less brute firepower. This also means that CIG will have to go back to the concept drawing board to fill the gap between the Aurora and Zeus.

Large ship racing would be pretty cool. Essentially the Sci-fi equivalent of the Whitbread 'round the world race. I can imagine a course spanning multiple systems and with certains locations that they have to visit as checkpoints, but it is up to the crews to plot their exact course and strategy (except with the way SC tends to play out, it would be "round the world racing through major warzones..." and the winner is just the ship that makes it the furthest before being blown up by pirates).

These ships won me over for 2 reasons: RSI and Looks. I have other ships in the class but these hit different! That said, I would have preferred an old school Shuttle personally but hey just one more ship in my every growing RSI fleet!
As for the ST, I'm not convinced it's happening or even a real thing.
The Zeus "Status" or ST image appears to be an amalgam or composite image, parts do not match across the ship and you can see evidence of editing along the lettering on the hull. The Rear has two extra wings that don't mirror correctly with the close one having no real connection to the hull while also being in two different positions. But one of the biggest mistakes in the image is the Winglets (Wing tips) these are two completely different wings from two different variants (the ES and MR). Combined with the copy paste paint work and the mismatch perspective of the skylight/moonroof tells me it's not real or at least never should have been seen.
If it is real however, whomever made the edit should be fired, you could make a better effort in MS Paint! The ship in the backdrop matches up even less. As someone who dabbles in hard surface modeling and has years of image editing under my belt, I would be really surprised if it turns out to be an honest and actual concept (Ask Algared we go way back to the early SC days)!

Every year I wonder, what is more strategically sound: buying cheaper ships or more expensive ones. You will blow your smaller daily driver, so perhaps having paid for one would have been better. The other argument is, you don't want your big ships to be blown up and therefore having paid real money for one must come with advantages. Now which of the two will make more sense in the long run.....hmm....

I know the cutlass blue can be used for bounty hunting but really it was designed more of a police cruiser and is just pulling double duty, same for the avenger stalker. The only ship before this dedicated purely for bounty hunting was the hawk...

I agree with everything you've deduced with the ST variant. I've said as much myself on other videos that I think it's some kind of touring version. As far as the additional turret debate, RSI is actually known for sticking additional turrets on their Touring variants. See Constellation Phoenix. Even going so far as to add an automated PDS turret. Even if we are still waiting for it to be implemented, it is still a promised and originally advertised feature of the Phoenix. So it's not outside RSI's established norms and lore by any stretch.

I wish they gave it the 4xS2 shields like the ES, but the extra turret for 6 guns total with great turret coverage on the top and bottom is really nice. The emp combined with that amount of firepower plus the two size 4 missile racks do make it formidable and so the 4th s2 shield may not be necessary at all anyway.

Even if the EMP has been super nerfed I still love this ship. It looks great and the MR has that extra turret for more firepower, not to mention the fact that it has coverage for both the top and bottom of the ship. Plus, all of its guns are in the middle of the ship, which means you can't lose them if a wing gets blown off and this also means that you have 2 size 4 and 4 size 3 guns that can put a lot of focused hurt on a target. • @MadIIMike

My guess for the ST would be something about Bombing/Torpedoes, RSI doesn't have anything in that area so far, the A1, A2, Eclipse and Retaliator also got those blackish paints. It would also explain why it was cut: if it's a solid upgrade over the A1, CIG wouldn't want people to ccu from the A1 which just got released with a price bump and instead release it flight ready later.
I don't dislike the looks, but I kinda wished they made a Legacy version with the old design.
I think some of the ships suffer a lot from being at the wrong side of the size system and balance patches, usually older ships but there are some exceptions. What's getting obvious is, that CIG balances ships around one version.
For example, the Spirit will be balanced around the A1, because CIG has no clue how powerful Bombs are. If you played War Thunder, then the Spirit's Bombs are similar to the 5 ton bombs from the russian heavy bombers people use to take out entire teams. They could nerf it to 20% the current radius and it would still be similar to a 1800kg bomb which is virtually a guaranteed kill unless you get intercepted by fighters/AA. And the A1 gets 10 of those, and has shields etc. there's no way in hell they'd ever give it the same Crusader mobility buff as the extremely overpriced Hercules where they first pushed Warbond schemes heavily and then struggled to justify the prices.
The Freelancer and Cutlass are pretty much stuck with balance around their entry level versions being well inside the single seat price ranges, you can justify those versions as early ships with multirole/multiplayer potential but if you look at the "premium versions" like the Blue or the MAX (or the nonsense that is the Steel), they don't stand a chance against the competition at all.
One also has to point out that CIG loves to use a giant bs smudge tool across any reasonable comparsions with their complete nonsense balance for Weapons, Shields, "Armor" and Mastermodes to come, we really don't know a lot about where ships will end up. The Freelancers used to have 4x S4 and the Connies used to have 2x Medium shields making the Max and Taurus (at one point both 150$) very close competitors, now the Max has 4x S3 weapons and the Taurus has a large shield... tough, CIG then decided to heavily nerf shields alltogether to ensure you can enjoy repair mechanics after catching any random stray shot.
With that many unknowns and variables, I'd suggest keeping only CCUs and maybe a game package unless there's a ship you feel like you absolutely must have regardless of it's abilities relative to others. To give one example, if the current weapons ranges are there to stay, the Perseus has become obsolete and the Hammerhead got a fair amount of potential, wheras before the changes it was the polar opposite.
Meanwhile the Polaris stands and falls by the ever changing balance of Missiles/Torpedoes, while it's nukes certainly will pack a punch, the question will be weither or not they can hit anything that's not stationary and at some point you might pay for extra damage you don't need just to have slower torpedoes than the Retaliator/Eclipse.

If the ST is real, and is actually a 'Status' variant, I suspect it will not be a racer, but probably an executive transport/party runabout more along the lines of the Phoenix/600i/E1. The windows on the roof look to be above where the cargo bay sits in the three known variants, so it stands to reason that the ST has the vast majority of the freight area replaced by passenger space of some kind.

That 4th mystery variant ship is IMO a touring/passenger variant. CIG has the very proper distinction between touring and exploration.
I definitely like it over the Spirit, but not sure I love it, but can't decide until it is released. The RSI Apollo was the last concept purchase. Whenever SC is truly playable, I'll log in again and can see this as a ship I'd earn, in game! My Connie reigns as my personal favorite ship, and put RSI design language on the map, for me!

well im a value shopper always looking for most bang for my buck when im in area where homes are selling 85 dollars per square foot and average home is 1500sqft then i find a 1600sqft home for 70 dollars per sq ft well you bet im bidding on it i did same for car and is why i have a tesla and i do this with food and toys....
when i ran the numbers on the zeus it seems to be the best value in my mind... im not a RSI fan but seems like i keep getting more RSI lately.
i have 7 token ships still waiting to be upgraded and the zeus will be one of them by the end of IAE

I'd posted the description of a 2 person medium fighter i wanted on the spectrum boards under the screen name aris renn... the shape of the zeus mark 2 is almost exactly what i described (delta wing lifting body) but bigger with a different cockpit (more in line w i th the mirai fury) the engines are different, and i was thinking the remote turret would be on the top. I was imagining something that filled a roll similar to a 2 person avenger titan, and before you say cutty black i was thinking smaller overall, only 20 scu and a better dogfighter.

I want a fast ship... something that could be used as a blockade runner to get past interdictors like the cutty blue or RSI mantis. I was originally hopeful that the spirit c1 was going to be that ship... but the a1's speed and maneuverability is reportedly not where it needs to be for that. The fins on the ST indicative of speed so im hopeful that it will be a fast ship. I'm hoping it has 2 turrets so i could bring along at least 2 of my kids as gunners when their old enough. All 3 of the announced zeus mark 2's are interesting but im not sure which one to pick, and the ST is most likely to check the most of my boxes. What i don't like about it is the zeus mark 2 seems to obsolete the spirit c1, before it's even been released

Thank you guys for repeating that we should not be looking at components or weaponry when buying ships now since they are all changing to balance within the new master modes system.
The Freelancer has to grow. John Crewe, in a video introducing the idea of ship metrics, said that the neck area of the Freelancer doesn't fit the current metrics because it doesn't allow AI and players to pass one another. However, that doesn't mean that on the MISC Freelancer gold standard update CIG will grow all the areas of the ship equally just the areas in which two players or AI can't currently pass each other. Also, that quote by Crewe is pretty old so ya know take everything with a grain of salt.
As far as the Zeus goes, it's cool just not me. I really think the closest ships to the explorer variant are the 400i and the DUR. The marketing around the 400i comparing it to the Constellation series was just to make the far higher price palatable. It will be interesting to see what happens to those ships after they get their component passes and weapon updates. I still think the 400i will have better components but fewer weapons(compared to other ships in this role) while the DUR will have better weapons and be more utilitarian. I just don't know how the Zeus fits into that paradigm.

All respect Execute. But the Taurus' shielded cargo bay isn't for smuggling. It's shielded to block quantum sensitive cargo from exploding.
If you take any of the delivery missions that require you to deliver "quantum sensitive" cargo, it says to have a ship with a shielded cargo bay.
Another example is the Diluthermex from Xenothreat. The function doesnt currently work in game, but thats the intention and I hope CIG differentiates Shielded cargo in the future.

  • @jvoodoochild2755
    @jvoodoochild2755 10 місяців тому

I understand why the comparisons you made were with the freelancer and cutlass tier of ships however…
The competitor I immediately thought of for the ES explorer is the 400i
The MR also has EMP, which currently would be compared to a Blue + Warlock or an Antares + Stalker. I hope the the Zeus’s EMP “damage” is larger than the Antares or the Warlock which would shake up what pirate gangs could effectively disable for commandeering rather than soft death salvage / hijacking
As far as cargo hauling, the field is even more dense for internal haulers, making for a rather difficult decision for backers not knowing the final stats for everyone.
Thanks for the content… even with the advice for a LTI token. I still don’t understand the default recommendation for LTI when all these “buy in game” recommendations come with zero insurance, and “better to earn down than up” doesn’t also cover insurance premiums after 10 years of coverage.
With the vast in-game time savings that just a dedicated captain for the chain, along with having a second hanger with whatever perks that brings, the sales price of starter packs is even with a LTI token, but a stand alone character slot will likely be more expensive.

The Bounty Hunter variant looks great especially with the new presented Star Citizen CON Hygiene issues with your character after a while but also with exertions like physical combat.
With the new Hygiene features you need to shower occasionally and this variant has a shower.
That said i do miss a small med bed or maybe one of the bunk beds that have a small medical scanner that would make the it complete seeing it is a very hazardous occupation.
You could say that the MR variant is more combat Military variant so more function compared to comfort so they could even have a room with a double function.
Now I do like the Cargo variant because of the cargo size and the tractor beam.
Loading cargo is a pain and some boxes are too heavy so this would make is very versatile and functional.
I do think that 3 persons is too many I was hoping for 2 person vessel for the cargo.
Mainly because the other variant have game play for the third person.
The MR (Bounty) - Has a Pilot / Turret (remote) and a Turret (manned).
The ES (Exploration) - Has a Pilot / Turret (remote) and a Scanner Station.
The CL (Cargo) - Has a Pilot / Turret (remote).
I know the Engineering Station is probably a dual function maybe with the Remote Turret Station.
If that is not the case then we need 4 people on some of the variants.
Still for a Merchant the bottom line is everything so having 1 person less compared to the other vessels is more profit.

As for freelancer series, their crew count was determined way early on, before it was clear how the game systems would work. I think *all* the freelancers at their current scale can and should drop to crew of 2 (and solo play being still very viable). There's just no reason to have 4 people, and it would be nice to extend the living space capabilities by losing the 2 useless seats.

I get the feeling that the MAX will become a vehicle-focused hauler because of its lack of tractor beam. Perhaps that is what will set it apart over the Zeus. They talked about Freelancers being long range cargo haulers - maybe Xi'an engine tech gives the ship enhanced fuel efficiency too? That's where I lean on the Freelancer MAX.

The Redeemer needs a size bump so that the hab can move back upstairs, and the modular portion can be by the back door.
Laid out more like it was originally. Having the ramp open to your components may be bad, but opening to your livong area, kitchen and bedroom is silly af.
The size bump should allow for an increase inanuverability, because it's a slug, and since it's already tanky, and shooty beyond it's size, no real need to increase anything else.
Over all, a size/manuvering speed bump and design improvent would offer an over-all better designed, better balanced ship, IMO. Right now it's too small for it's insides and it's outsides.

The game needs more ships that are just solid options and these are fantastic.
I do think that the essential would be mine if I chose to grab one of them as is. The CL sacrifices a bit too much for the sake of cargo room (can't get to the components) and the Marque does gameplay that's not my thing.

I think in the initial comparison of Zeus MR vs. Blue, you forgot that the MR also has an EMP along with its QED. The Blue just has its QED. I see the MR as bigger, more crew, more of a base of ops for a small hunting team to get around in. Carry a vehicle, stock an armory, keep targets from escaping *and* effectively disable them for capture. The blue feels more like a better solo ship, or part of a team. The MR is potentially more self-contained.

The Max has 120 cargo, the CL has 128. The Max is much smaller, can fit an Ursa, has an airlock/ladder entrance. It lacks a tractor beam and has a "worse" turret, one less shield and it's a little cheaper. The CL doesn't somehow "invalidate" the Max as it sits today.

It also sounds like the extra cargo space might just be by having the cargo grid extend all the way to the walls.
One less bed, the tractor beam, it's also a bigger target in combat.
They're solid competitors, with some fairly minor tradeoffs.
The ursa should probably fit in the CL, so I think it's going to end up being how the load out focuses (shield vs armour, or speed over qt range) and if you'll need the extra bed for friends, that'll make the decision for people.
Also, for me, not looking like a freelancer is what did it.
