It's funny that people say that polar bears are "thriving", even though they are listed as a vulnerable species meaning that they are not endangered, but they are declining in numbers.
Polar bear numbers have been consistent ever since data was collected in the 1970's. Ironically, polar bears are surviving because they've been spared the one and only thing that is wiping out every other animal on earth. Human encroachment. Sadly, the polar bear will undoubtedly go extinct, but it won't be because of climate change.
Dr. Susan Crawford said April 10, 2019 that polar bear populations changed from less than 10,000 in the 1960s to nearly 40,000 now.

The brief article states that 1960 levels were only a guess. So does that mean both sides are guessing? What method did Dr. Susan Crawford use? She's been "fired" according to the Washington Times. Also Judith Curry was rubbed out for reporting variance in undersea volcanoes. Seems to be a pattern, female scientists reporting what they see and getting axed by the tolerant left champions of women for not supporting the narrative. It's really frustrating trying to find methods listed with sources to be able to decide ourselves. Despite the blur, there are many reasons to not believe the narrative. Here's an example:

The seal population is increasing, polar bears eat seals. Spring is the time polar bears do most of their eating. The summer ice feeding period is less important. Polar bears live on seals, the seals depend upon denning in stable first year ice late enough in spring for the pups to mature, the ice has become rotten, this disruption of seals maturing is Arctic wide with refugia, lack of seals is the biggest reason for starving bears, and everything else living there ...

It's the various conservation charities and institutes which have nothing to do with the IPCC that have given the figures and the analysis to categorise the polar bear as a vulnerable species. I opine the following: there was more smoke in the atmosphere probably in the industrial revolution yet polar bears and the ice survived, however in the 1950s several tests of atomic bombs above ground are rarely mentioned, also what of the holes in the ozone layer, do these counter the greenhouse gases trap.

@Thomas M. At the expense of others what? Other animals, people? Wind mills, a solution to climate change, and therefore the saviour of polar bears, is at the expense of birds. Wind mills kill around 1 million birds every year. (and growing) What is your point? My point, was simply to cynically express that the climate movement, like any cult cannot stand dissent. They do not want to hear about anything positive related to climate change because it interferes with their alarmist narrative of apocalyptic doom. That's all I was saying.

Like some humans and animals that must hunt or scavenge to survive many polar bears are not all good hunters. Just like humans some grow up with weaknesses including health. But they won't disappear from our arctic only if they ran out of food sources, not on danger at this time.

So they want to keep the outside CO2 level from going from 400 PPM to 450 PPM. That's parts per million and that is going to prevent heat accumulation in the atmosphere. I do not think so.

Wrong, you need to study the many natural climatic cycles including the sunspot (solar magnetic) cycle, the Barycenter Cycle (AMO/PDO), and the the De Vries cycles to name a few. Longer term, the Milankovitch cycles dominate the timing ice ages and unusually warm interglacial periods (like the Holocene now in progress). You may be surprised to learn that the Holocene interglacial warm period may be about over (it lasts about 10,000 years) and it might get really cold before too long. This video is basically non-scientific propaganda.

Devastating? Hardly! Polar bears are thriving! Warmth means the entire food chain is bigger and more robust. That's what warmth does. Some polar bears are starting to find food onshore. When they have sea ice, seals are fatter and more plentiful.
During the far warmer Eemian interglacial -- the warm phase just before the Holocene, in the current Ice Age -- polar bears may not have had any sea ice to speak of. The Eemian was thought to have been as much as +5C warmer than today's "scorching" temperatures. And that temperature went on for hundreds of years. A few thousand years were spent at least as warm as today and much of it far warmer. There is evidence off the coast of one lone island north of Europe that it experienced cold climate like today, but that was isolated. Greenland saw massive melting throughout the Eemian. Polar bears survived just fine.
We live in an Ice Age. Life does very poorly in the cold. Just look at the population gradient from poles to equator. Just look at the conditions during the last glacial period of the current Ice Age. Civilization could not start for 90,000 years during that brutal cold. Then, 12,000 years ago, global warming made civilization possible. Population levels began to explode.
Do you really want to return to glacial conditions to accommodate the polar bear? There's no such thing as "stopping climate change." Climate has changed for nearly 4.5 billion years. We will get cooling or warming. Ice kills; warmth promotes life. Choose wisely and promote the right direction for life.
Hi Rod, thank you for your comment however we do need to clear up a few inaccuracies and missed points within your post. One of the most common myths about polar bears is that their population numbers are overall increasing. Pre-1970’s we had very little scientifically reliable polar bear population estimates, little more than educated guesses. We can begin to quantify population number increases during the 1970’s due to the implementation of hunting regulations. As expected this helped increase the polar bear numbers within these populations. Now we can monitor populations more reliably due to advances in technology, we can see static or downward trends in almost every subpopulation within the arctic.
As explained by Dr Gavin Schmidt in the film, we are very aware that our climate changes naturally over hundreds of millions of years. The important fact (that more than 97% of climate scientists agree with) is that we are causing and experiencing rapid unusual changes to our climate system. The pace of this change is greater than any ecosystem can evolutionarily adapt to (including humans). Polar bears cant simply adapt to living on a land based diet. Also, certainly don't be mislead by thinking the Arctic is void of life. Quite the contrary; it is actually a very complex ecosystem teeming with life! From polar bears, walrus and whales down to the incredibly important plankton, fish and birds.
By saying we need to ‘stop climate change’ we are not referring to longer-term natural cycles, but the proven changes and damage we are causing right now. By greatly reducing our rampant greenhouse gas emissions we can help stop or even reverse these negative effects on our planet today.
