Slicker compresses though, in the case of lap siding for instance, the top of the lap siding piece pinches the slicker down and essentially chokes off the vertical draining channel. so the only "gap" is basically the tiny space next to those yellow filaments, thus, as you say eliminates the benefit of the rainscreen

What rainscreen would you recommend for such a siding?

@@GrampalettasCamp Anything that doesn't compress, so vertical strips of some sort tend to work the best. Like vertical strips of wood lath are good, can buy bundles of that or strips of plywood or sheet goods ripped down to any width that can tolerate to be nailed to sheathing/studs and then siding nailed to it. 1x4 is comes up in articles but that is overkill in my view.

@@wcbscout perhaps something that doesn’t rot, like PVC or plastic lumber?

@@GrampalettasCamp not necessary but yes PVC lath or lattice type strips would work so long as you are still fastening siding to studs as per the manufacturer.

@@wcbscout what do you use or recommend at the top and bottom of the cavities between the vertical strips to keep it ants, bees, bugs and vermin yet allow the rainscreen to dry out with bottom to top air circulation? Thanks in advance
