No idea. He just didn’t like it and neither did the fans. The best reason he has is that his fans probably expected him to copy tears for fears instead of him being himself (curt smith) and when he expressed his solo style I guess the fans weren’t ready yet. Abit like back to the future when Marty sings that song in the 50’s era. If the album was released in 2020 I can guarantee to you that it would be more popular today than it was in 1992-1994 of curt recording this due to a lot of his modern fans only just finding them now. Where as in the 90s era the fans weren’t expecting his style to change but in tears for fears he needed a style suited to Roland’s songs etc where as on this album it’s all himself. If that makes any sense? Roland changes his approach in 1993-1997 and sounds more like Nirvava than the Roland we remember in 1980-1991. A lot of musicians change there style to get with the times. If Roland didn’t go with the nirvana Rocky sort of songs in the 90s then elemental and Raoul and the kings of Spain wouldn’t have been as popular as it was. It’s clever how musicians change these styles and makes them better singers. Roland in 1993-1997 in my view is a way better singer in his 90s stint than his 80s stint and I think curts best is 1989-2004 when he really gets it all spot on. 1985 rule the would and 1983 songs he was good too but in 1989 onwards he was even better.
