DIY Scale Model House Build
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 жов 2016
- In this video I show how to frame a scale model house. I cut 1 by 4 lumber into wood strips and build a scale version of a 24' by 32' house. I tried to frame the windows and doors just like I would on a real house.
Tools Used-
- Makita Miter Saw- amzn.to/2aquoR2
- Ridgid Table Saw- amzn.to/2ae95yP
- Dewalt Planner amzn.to/2ae3KHG

How far can you span C purlin?aWith Ryan's ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxy_pn55PK60wAV3X_C_RoLS_67mNonoCE plan I was like one taken by the hand and led step by step from start to finish. Thank you very much Ryan!
Sorry, I am not sure what that would be.
this type of model would be really useful as a learning tool for young carpenters and framers to understand the concepts of their trade
I feel like doing this sometime.
Spyder Lord so we have carpentry and we make a modeled house but we actually start from bottom but I think he doesent know what he is doing super glue is not made for wood wood glue will hold as long as you have clamps to hold it plus your project will look better but we also don't use staples
@@sarahvangundy6343 He is missing the half of the jack-studs under the windows...
@@lennym1273 Doors are screwed up also.
It's great cause you don't need to speak English to see how it's done.
I love it. One of my favorite things to see is a wood framed house. I love when I spot one and try to go by each day to see it come together. I hate when they start to clad it with the exterior materials so you can't see all the framing. Thank you so much for doing this. For me a framed house is like candy. I just can't get enough of it. Tiny small homes that almost invite you to try and build it are the ones I like most.
I may never do this in my life but I like it
very cool, i'd love to see it goes on. See what you would use to cover walls etc, some minimal electricity for on-display lighting
I made one of these out of balsa. I even made joists and put down 'subfloor' and framed a second floor AND roofing trusses. Stairs are hard. Mine is a smaller scale so that I could use available sized balsa and only cut to length.
Your larger scale model could even be wired up with realistic looking wiring and LED fixtures, not to mention realistic looking HVAC and fake plumbing. Consider me inspired to make my own larger scale and go nuts!
A smile goes such a long way. Awesome video and here’s hoping you get that home.
Thanks damian riggs! I am glad to say I am now living in the home that I built based off this model!
Oh, to have a workshop like yours. That wonderful saw is making me green with envy.
Thanks 👍
thanks for this, I have been looking for a demo on how to construct a scale model for a while now, this will be very helpful for my project.
Glad I could help, and good luck on your project Robert!
Finally, a model build how it’s really constructed. Great job!
Thanks Brian for the comments !
Ha
found this today as I wanted to start making scale models as a hobby. loved your work on the model. neat and precise. it gives me a good reference point to start. liked and subscribed already now :)
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the Sub!
What a neat idea
This is beyond awesome!
Beautiful. That is brilliant.
chad you looked so happy building that tiny house i was pretty stoke to see one built !
"thumbs up "👍🏽
Hi Billy, I'm glad you liked the video! I have actually been building this house for real over the last 6 months. I will be posting a video soon, so you can check out what this model looks like as a real house!
Very well put together video, awesome model. Makes me miss my workshop that much more! Subbed
Thanks E_Wayne for the kind words and the Sub!!
Looks fantastic
So satisfying!
I don't know How I'm just seeing this NOW... I have been looking for a video like this for years. Especially the ability to buy wood from a home depot or something like that and understand how to scale as well as cut it down to usable size to make something like this. I have a ton of floor plans in my head. that I wanna make scaled models of and I could never do it. I hope I'll be able to do it now... THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOO Much... Your amazing...
Hey, I'm glad I could help you out with this video...thanks for watching!
@@chaddiy3512 My Pleasure
I learned much about how planes and cars work by building scale models as a kid. I learned about chemistry and physics by building scale models as a teen. I learned how to not stress out and provide wonderful gifts to friends and family by building scale models as an adult. My cherished pass time. I’ve never built a house or a model of one but it might be my next project. Great inspiration.
Building models can be fun and you can learn so much from the process...im glad to here from other builders out there!
Excellent. I was interested in the subject but I was glued to this video. Thank you,
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is amazing once my moms grand dad made a boll house 2 story’s and it was HUGE and we still have it
That is great you still have it, sounds like something you would want to keep forever!
my god, all those awesome tools....
Excellent job !!!
Great model. I'm in the process of doing the same thing, but building a model to be assembled by my grandson. will include plans and all parts for construction. Will include a raised floor foundation. It's difficult to make everything to scale. Had to set up a scale chart: 2x4 would be 2/16 x 5/16 and 2x6 would be 2/16 x 7/16, etc.
Did that in shop class. Great hobby
Wow, really nice!
Very cool. I just finished building a model of the home my husband and I are building.
It was a fun project and it is great to have a model to look at while building the real thing!
A well done video. Real framing techniques.
Thanks Don!
You have really cool videos and its a shame that you're extremely underrated. This video should have a couple hundred thousand views!
Thanks so much!! I know I'm just a small channel now, but hopefully I will keep growing. Comments like yours really help me stay motivated...thanks again!
You're welcome, keep making the cool videos man.
I built my 26'×32' house with vaulted ceilings in the front half an 8' in the back half. This gives a feeling of space but allows for attic space and room for central air. Here are a few tips : Don't buy the cheapest windows they will fail within 5 years. Put some concrete mix under the shower unit for strength. Place washer and dryer along outer wall to vent easier. Drywall yourself , it is not that hard and will save a lot. Always overbuild when you can.
Jerlin Vinso - You might be right about dry walling yourself in your area, but where I live they bid it by the square foot of surface so cheap, it hardly makes sense to do it yourself, unless of course you enjoy breathing drywall dust.
This was a huge help, I'm so glad I found this
Great! I am glad it could help!!
what scale did you use for the model, compared to what the actual building would be?
Every 1 inch of the model equals 1 ft of the real thing
Thank you very much for the insights, I had been wanting to try a model house for a while but didn't know how to go about it. besides, you just got one subscriber :)
Glad i could help, and thanks for subscribing!
When I build my scale framing models, I tried medium viscosity CA glue, but I found it's too brittle and fragile. I rebuilt my first wall using tiny dabs of hot melt glue followed by 5/8" 23 gauge pins using a Porter Cable pneumatic pin nailer following the NC Residential Building Code nailing schedule in 602.3(1). Works great. With a good pin nailer, you can easily replicate toe-nailing where applicable. I cut my rafter plumb cuts and bird mouths with a super sharp dozuki Japanese pull saw in a shop-made miter box jig.
I used hot glue also but that's it and it's really strong
Such neat workmanship!
Thanks!
Cool man very cool, you'll make an perfect architect.
Wow that's awesome. I was thinking of building a model for the basement Reno.
Thanks, and good luck if you do your basement model!
That looks amazing.
Thanks James L Coble!
Awesome pointers! I need a "build a roof" video for my ARCH class!
Thanks Larry! Hopefully you can find a roof video to follow!
thinking making a lay out of my dream cabin like this. Yours is really cool. I have to comment on your cripple studs. I was taught to double them at the vertical frame and single in middle following the 16 inch lay out.
He had double stud at openings, but he didn't install nogging, I guess it'd too much hassle.
Thank you very much, this helped me with my school project.
Glad I was able to help!
Nice to have a tool for every thing
This looks great! What blades are you using that create such a beautiful and clean cut?
I built one of these at a vocational school back in the 80's.
Unfortunately it was lost in a tornado and I would like to build another one.
I had a vocational class in high school that taught you how to diagnose and make repairs to items such as toasters and everyday items. Another thing I enjoyed doing was making a model house like in this video with the exception the little sticks came already made which I cut to size and glued.
Wow I know I'm late but that looks amazing! Great craftsmanship
Thanks, I appreciate the comment!
Good stuff. Excellent vid for understanding the process of framing.
Thanks Aoudhubillahi!
Cute lil project
Nice job. You know that there are doll companies that sell dollhouse lighting kits so that you can put power into that.?? I've always wanted to build a model of my dream house like you did. Very, very good.
This rocks great job man

Hi 727 Shane, Glad you liked it...and thanks for the Sub!
Quite a few years ago I built a scale model of a handicapped ramp to be used to demonstrate what our ramp ministry did (hoping to get some more volunteers.) It was about 24 inches long and all the pieces were cut to scale for the 4x4s and 2x6s actually use to build a real ramp. I appreciate the effort done here in making a 3D floor plan of their proposed house to they could have a nice visual image. Just because the individual pieces are not to "exact" scale, doesn't make it any less useful for the intended purpose. I really liked the project and maybe I'll build one of my house.
I'll have to think about the scale properties of the "nails" from a pin nailer (new toy) and then adjust the sizes of the scale lumber accordingly. If I used 0.5" pin nails to be equal to a 16d construction nail, then the scale would be 7:1 and a "2x4" would be 0.25x0.5, etc. That seems doable and not too different from the dimensions used here. It's just that the house model would have been about 50% larger to be in approximate scale to match the "lumber."
Anyway, great project - appreciate the effort.
Thanks James for the comment. You are right..."the house model would have been about 50% larger to be in approximate scale to match the "lumber." I wasn't really worried about the 2 by 6's being perfectly to scale. I just tried to get everything close, as well as making it fit my needs. Thanks for watching!
I love how your wife tosses the pencil like a BOSS everytime she marks the wood...this turned out really cool!
Very neat and thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the kind comment Farmer John!
Awesome video, 1st time watcher and now subscriber.
Awesome! Thank you!
You actually cut your own wood. That's awsome
Thanks!
this is so interesting. I love it.
Thanks...glad you liked it!
love it.
I love this......thank you
Thanks Andrea!
I love this idea!!!
Glad you love it!
I love it. I would love to get a kit to build my own model. I want to build a scale model of a small building 15 x 30
This gives me so many ideas.
Good luck with those ideas!
Good job, Dude. Im just now starting my project by drawing the plans. See how that goes. Nice video.
Thanks and Good luck on your plans!
looks like fun.
Really, really cool!!!
Thanks Robert Swift!
Great video man!
Thanks!
It may not be to code, but it's awesome! Great job!
Thanks Dodge Guy!
I’m hoping to build a 1/12 scale building or 2 for diorama/display use… this is pretty helpful. Just need to figure out the floor-plans for each of them, find a decent standin for drywall that won’t look weird and muster up the follow through to actually do the projects
All I know is that I want to use one as a physical interpretation of my dream house, even though it’s unlikely to ever be realized in real life (never say never) and the other as a secondary mainstay in a figure comic series…
I think for the sake of display, both should have swivel posts incorporated into the corners of the outer structure so I won’t have to worry about lifting off layers like a roof or a second floor… but I’d prolly want them to be heavy duty and secured to a fairly beefy foundation (beefy relative to 1/12 scale) to minimize drooping and shifting of the contents in each room
Still a few years away from really starting anything like this, but it’s fascinating to think of the possibilities all the while
Awesome very neat
Great video!
Thanks! I am glad you liked it!!
This would be a great visual aid for a person having a new home built.
That is why i built it, it was great to have on hand when I built my own house!
@@chaddiy3512 We are building a house year after next. We have the land and the plans. Just saving up a chunky down payment. I have been looking for a way to visualize the plans in real space and I may try my hand at using your technique. Thanks for the vid. You have a new subscriber!
awesome duuude
the thumbs down are from those that have never done anything fun in their life. Nice work!

@@Bakus74 Hopefully 2 years later, you realize that it's a little stupid to base manliness on building materials.
Amazing love it
Thanks!
I Love Your Video!
very cool vid,thanks..i am trying it now,for fun.
Have fun!
awesome!
Well done. Nice details work. We have same hobby.
Thanks! and glad to see someone else likes this hobby!!

hello, welcome to pimp my model.
🤣🤣😂😂😂
Very Cool!
Thanks!
I did like the video and hit the like button. Cool stuff! I only have a few of the tools you used in this video so this project is off the table (pun intended) for me right now :(
So I don't have an awesome wood shop. How do you feel about making and selling the scale size lumber? I want to do model of an A-frame home.
March 17, 2018---Pretty damn impressive how to video. There's an English guy doing the same, but in 1/35th scale, but then he retired as a contractor. Not only full walls with studs, etc. but drywall, roof w/beams, etc.
Wow, that other model sounds impressive! To do drywall and a roof would take some time...but I'm sure it would look great when it was done!
You make it look easy
Thanks, it was pretty easy and a really fun project as well!
Would u be able to send a link or the diagram of the floor plan for me plz I’m trying to make one my self but I don’t have the material to make one at all
Love it thanks for sharing! GB :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for helping
No problem!
This was a very nice video. I would like to see more videos like this from everyone on UA-cam. also I really like to eat Pizza, thank you for your time.
Thanks Greg...and thumbs up for pizza!
nice project
Thanks!
That's pretty damn cool
Thanks shaun wick!
Cool as hell
Thanks!
Freaking lovely 😍
Hi are you gonna make the rest of the house? You are the first And only one I subscribe to, I really like the way you explain all details. Hope you can make the rest of the house.
Hi Srey, I am actually finishing the real life version of this house now. I started building it 4 months ago and am almost done. I will show it in a video soon!
Would it be possible to put this shed together without the floor? I am looking for an attractive shed for retrofitting over my pool equipment...
I'm makeing a modern house. Any tips?
You gotta have great aim with the brad nailer to hit the mark every time.
Did you build your exterior walls to be 16 on center or 24 on center?
Some of the walls I did 16 and some 24 just to same time. If I buit it for real, it would all be 16 on center.
Really loved it wish I could of helped bild it
nice job
Thanks!
