This is a very well done interesting video.
Hopefully I'm not better off saving this for a more appropriate video and I'll switch the comment if I need to but it was a pleasure meeting you at Aquashella man! Am the guy you discussed powerlifting with. Lol. Keep at it and don't let anything deter you from doing a meet should you decide to cause I guarantee you'll outdo the vast majority in masters. Also, maybe get that power bar/deadlift bar combo! Former for general purpose and the latter for the possible 20-30 extra pounds out of it, maybe even the first session depending on your pulling style, though not every fed uses DL bars so something to consider. Anyway good luck and I'll be tuning in to your vids because fish are another passion of mine that you obviously very much share.
Thanks for the tips! I WISH I had a local fish store as it is such a better method than ordering online. I’ve had great online experiences, but even the best shippers can only do so much to mitigate deaths and stress on the fish. Not to mention shipping usually costs me more than or as much as the fish 😅
Thank you for this video. I have used my LFS and a couple online resources to acquire my fish. I prefer my LFS but there are times when the fish I am looking for isn’t available.
Very informative and interesting topic. I am always afraid to invest big money in aquarium fish. Would hate if something bad happened and I lost it. Anything im looking for though our LFS has a great way to find whatever we need. Thanks for the great advise!
Thanks Zenzo - I live in an area of Texas where we have to drive at least an hour to get to a local fish store, so finding more than just the big box fish is a chore. This was super helpful! And right now, I am looking for some female apistogramma borelii…
I wish we had a local fish store within an hours drive of my home in NE Bama. All I have is big box and 2 shops specializing in marine tanks😭

I'm lucky there is a great local fish store in my area of the central valley that stocks all kinds of fish.
Finding a good fish store in or near your area is a good idea. Unless you can talk to the manager of Petco or PetSmart they might be willing to take special orders, I have had a few managers who helped me, but most of the time a big box stores employee is being overwhelmed and pulled in a lot of different directions at once so you need to talk to them when they aren't super busy... I've never had to buy fish online yet as I prefer picking out my fish in the store.. I'll spend 5 to 15 minutes just looking at the fish I want to purchase before making a decision on which one I get.
What I like to do first is look online do some research into a fish I want, then go to my local fish store and see what they have in stock or if they will order it for me.
That's how I found my polkadot goodeids. I went in looking for a specific fish and found something I wasn't expecting and never knew existed.
Sometimes you have to be willing to go the extra mile to find what you are looking for.
I'm guessing not many fish stores actually carry two different goodeids for sale. They also have Red gourami's which is a import from Czech republic I think.. very interesting color for a gourami tiger stripes with black and orange. Plus fish I see fish tubers talking about all the time
If you're ever in Modesto CA chack out Tropical Haven for some rare finds..
Also shout out to ultimate aquarium Inc in San Mateo.. I use to ride my bike to this store a lot growing up just to look at the fish they've been around a long time...

Because of the issues with selling on Facebook many have gone to an app called ‘Band’. There are numerous people who import and/or breed rare plecos, cories, cichlids, etc. I have bought from several and got amazing fish.

Once in a great while. Not often. I’m live every week on the Aquarium Co-Op channel for members. I may do a stream on this channel in the future.

But can't seem to find any local fish store that'll bring in female honey gourami. All I can find are the males. I quit going to my LFS because I was getting sick fish. I've bought fish online from a couple sellers and got fantastic fish. I haven't attempted to buy anything from Aquabid because I don't know how good the sellers really are.

I literally just wrote to answer you like you were talking straight to me. I just said, "Hey, I wonder if I can collect different species of mbuna like peacocks or haps... due to living space... they say african cichlids are dead...lol
My experiences are varied. My LFS both have great fish selection but both use RO water. My water is hard with a PH 7.3. Some don't do great unfortunately. The other LFS that is a smaller chain has ph closer to my tanks. Hit or miss. As for Online fish..I go with who my nerms recommend 🙂. I haven't had any problems.
I was just able to get a fish I had been searching out for awhile by building a good relationship with my lfs. I wanted some Black Tiger Badis and because I'm in the shop frequently they were more than willing to help me out. One month later and boom!! In return I agreed to bring her fry if I get lucky.

This is how I got my fish most of the time an I also was able to get my albino beta from my pet store it was just out on the shelf for 5.99 an I bought him. An if you look it up it's one of the most rarest beta.

I work at a pet store and one of my regulars just dropped off a dragon puffer as a surrender because he no longer wanted it after a year. I took it home and it now lives in a 40b by himself and his food sources.

I would talk to the fish store owners or manager about ordering the fish you want. Or try checking online to get them delivered to you directly.
