To me personally just love seeing coffee bars (like real ones, not from pinterest). Definitely inspiring and you roasting them kinda guides me towards what I should stay away from (minding personal preference, of course) Part 2 soon?
Glad you enjoyed, definitely quite a bit different than my usual but a fun break. I haven’t decided on a part 2 yet, just waiting to see how it all shakes out and the overall feeling from the community on it, but so far seems like the majority had fun.
Yes please on part 2. I have a very functional Gaggia setup. But unlike others I fell the star of the show should be the coffee. I am in Madagascar where I get my coffee direct from farm. So farm to coffee bar. Is that a thing. I would love to send some pics.
Aren't we all Hoffman Stans? Best coffee at home is a nice book. It's not groundbreaking, and yeah the info is on his channel for sure, but if you like physical books, it's a good one. I'd also buy your book if you write one. 😁
I'm here for Part II. You're going to love my James Hoffman fan art that I've decorated the bar area with. The incense holders for my James shrine I'm told are a bit much but in Hoff we trust.
This video just made me feel like a peasant with my GCP and Baratza Sette grinder 😂😂😂 Maybe there could be points taken off if your setup is more then $10,000. Love this one along with all your videos!
Loved this video! I'm very interested in seeing other people's coffee bar setups. I agreed with almost all of your critiques. The only one that puzzled me was not liking the machine close to a sink--possibly because, well, my machine is close to my sink. I find that kind of setup very useful for keeping all my coffee equipment clean. Also, it's handy for, say, emptying the water reservoir on my espresso machine. I'd really enjoy seeing a part 2 of a similar video.
You definitely weren’t joking when you said you chose violence LOL I loved how you didn’t hold back and think that’s how these roasts really should go. I think an interesting concept would be a drink recipe submission/competition that requires to use 2 ingredients of your choice like strawberries and bitters. Submissions must include detailed recipe and photo of their drink. Then you could choose 3 recipes that stood out to you and recreate them to taste and choose which one you like best! Maybe the winner could even get a prize??? Love you Spro!
My wife's coffee setup is way more impressive than mine, and it is an 8-year-old Nespresso machine. It is on a cute coffee cart from a yard sale. She has a foamer, some different mugs, colorful jars filled with sweetener and capsules etc. There are chalk board menus on the wall and photos of farm animals. She has a Minipresso NS2 on a V60 stand too (travel etc). Me, I put my Bambino Plus on my prep table and called it a day.
yap more please. ( BTW the thing i really hate, is seeing espresso machines at the end of the counter stuck next to the side wall. There is NO excuse for that.)
This great! Would love to see more coffee setup roasting! Maybe make rating into coffee bean roast levels, maybe something like "light fermented" or "city+"; may you decide if that is confusing or not, and make the darker roasts worse, just to make Italians angry.
We need more of these for sure! As far as the book is concerned, the only thing I could think of that is in the book that isn't on his channel would be his page on cold brew, but he basically says he doesn't like cold brew and you could find countless tutorials online. I got it partially to support what he does, but also it is nice to have things written down and not have to comb through UA-cam videos to find what you need. He also has a page with different grind size examples so it's good to have a visual of the general target your aiming for.
@@jennifermarchlewski1607 the video he just published was on iced coffee using immersion, not quite cold brew (he even mentions this towards the beginning) cold brew is done entirely cold with cold water and is set aside anywhere from 12-48 hours usually in a fridge.
Thank you. I love these! Definitely wouldn't be mad if this became a regular thing. Like you could do one every quarter or however frequent it makes sense.
Very enjoyable episode. I was surprised by the absence of a puck disposal mechanism on many of these setups (knock boxes, etc). There has to be one, but many seemed to think they detracted from 'the view.' Also many of those setups looked jammed together and without a real work space. Those gave me the claustrophobics. OTOH, you'd be horrified to find the left-hand side of my GS3 only 8" from the sink. And my K30 flat burr grinder on another counter. Guess I'd might have a Spro Factor 3 if I'm lucky. 😁 Keep on truckin'!
I would love to see a series of coffee bar roasting. It is fun to see other set ups and hear your comments. You are a pretty tough judge. My own bar would probably give you nightmares being dark, no natural light and cluttered. So, don't expect a pic from me . 😂 I look forward to your next video. ☕☕😁
Enjoyable as a one-off, and Ihope every participant took it in good spirit. Thank you. I mostly agreed with your scorings, although would "only" have give 9/10, not 9.5. Many "judges are afraid of using the whole scoring scale and you just went full Beast Mode. Maybe a Part 2 in the future (9 to 12 months?). Stay safe, everyone
Yeah, I don’t think think this would be something I’d do super frequently, minimum every 6 months to a year to keep it fresh and something to look forward to.
So I just made a latte and flash cooled it immediately and put it on ice. Probably the best drink I've ever made. Just curious if this is a thing or something you'd be willing to try out? I used dogwood neon espresso beans which happen to be some of my favorite means too. 1 to 3 ratio.
I'd love to see you do a breakdown of coffee bar aesthetics and how to set up a cute bar. Ideas about types of materials, how to organize your setup etc.
Okay but I need to know what coffees y’all got on these bars. Like are you buying high quality specialty coffee with producer transparency for your $10k setup or did you buy that grinder in the hopes that it would make your grocery store beans taste good?
the one with 2 creminas; i think they are different pistons so not actually the same. those 2 red machines look legacy. i have a collectible faemina spring machine as well as a cremina both in the closet. close to sink is not bad on kitchen countertop better than on wood surface because over time wood will degrade from water. the one with a 2 group commercial machine must feel like an F15 pilot making coffee. i used to have a BIG Gaggia commercial machine on kitchen countertop and I too felt like a fighter pilot but it took up too much counter space. current setup a 220volt plumbed Spaziale S1, a rocky and an ascaso conical. i am not convinced specialty grinders make better coffee despite an often high price.
It's a cool video. I do believe that doing such a video in a group of 3-4 people would add a lot of dynamics into the video. People will have different opinions and defend a setup or the other way around.
I completely agree with you Spro! I can't stand chrome...or stainless steel while we're at it. Since I have a white condo I try to keep it to dark blue (Samsung Bespoke line) and matte white in my kitchen. I may join if you do it again, just waiting on my Sculptor 64s.
I am nowhere near the setup that most of these have. Life's got me in a bit of a bind with other pressing matters, the most important thing to me rn is that my somewhat functional workflow gets me through the day. Wouldn't mind a home bar setup one day and these are an interesting insight.
I'm gonna keep requesting this idea: video about modding / upgrading parts of "cheap" or budget espresso machine such as changing shower screen, upgrading filter basket, performing dimmer mod, etc.. just to see how it compares with medium - high end machine, or if it can make nice espresso. heck, just to see how far you can upgrade or mod it. why this idea? Because based on this video alone i see mostly expensive setups (not that it's bad) but i just wanna see how 'accessible' good espresso is.
Oh yes, a part 2 would be good. And 3, 4, 5… I don’t use IG a whole lot so missed it, but I’d like to be roasted I think. Not everyone has everything together in one spot, so maybe a version for 2 -3 pictures. I have my Niche & La Pavoni in one corner with the accoutrements, basic pourover stuff in another, as well as a cupboard full of cups and other stuff. Great video as ever 😊
If the only complaint you have about the decent is the noise from think that’s a win for decent because aerogel insulation in that small a quantity is cheap lol
This was fun. I guess I need to use Instagram if I need to jump in on the fun :( my bar is quite roastable. But not like those computer setups where you see Cheetos and used napkins all around
Yeah, I may try and collect entries on the Community tab, but I’m not sure if photos can be posted there by anyone but me. Would love to open it up to those not on IG. And for sure, overall the bars are far cleaner than your average gamer setup haha.
There's a certain UA-camr that only does shorts that also only uses expensive equipment and tries to get rage bait reactions from people who hate on expensive gadgets

I do hope people see the tongue-in-cheek humour of the whole thing. I’d happily send in my setup for roasting if it’s for the lols
Some terribly off base scores, but a fun video. More.

2:34 that “built in tamper” is a removable tamper on the BBE. So the tamp mat makes sense in this case.
I feel like if you’re going to use it off the machine it would just stay off the machine? Who knows though.
My coffee company is based here in Scranton, PA and we have a dark roast blend called “Boom Roasted”. Thought it was funny when I saw the thumbnail.

I like the wrap up where Spro said, “it’s all in good fun”. You do you!
Absolutely. No disrespect intended, all photos were submitted for roasting, just some good ol fashioned roasting.
I'm glad I didn't send you a graphic of my setup. :')
It's not as bad as the red coffee neon though, luckily.
A graphic? Is it like a rendering or a real setup?
