I’ve been thinking about this for a while now. I’m 60 years old and my wife is 58…and we are mortgage free.Kids are grown up and what’s pushing me down this road is our ever declining quality of life, the ever increasing costs of running a house and the the fact that after I was made redundant from a job I really enjoyed back in July ‘23…I’ve gone from one crappy job to another…I’m worn out with it to be totally honest. My wife isn’t too keen but I can’t cope much more with applying for dead end jobs and the 9 to 5 grind. Ideally I would like to move to Devon or Cornwall and spend my time walking my dogs and getting fitter in cleaner air. Just need to convince the wife now…good video by the way 👍

Did it 10 years ago, never looked back. It’s brilliant. And you’ll be in a community where people think the same and look out for each other. So safe too. And definitely cheaper. Just love it, go for it you won’t regret a single thing.

Been following your journey, I am going through the uncertainty, are they cold in the winter, etc. I could retire in April next year, company have offered to keep me on, but... I don't want to work 50 hours a week, not have time to look after the house or garden (which is 220' long), wife has MS and I worry that if something happened to me, she wouldn't be able to cope, so.... that's why we are looking at Residential Park Homes, at least you have some legal coverage, instead of Holiday homes, over the past 5 weeks we have been visiting Residential sites, one's that looked good on the internet, turned out to be not so good, house went on market last Monday, had 3 viewings already, shit... everything is happening so fast, it's scary....

    • @DazPreston69
      @DazPreston69  Рік тому +1

It is scary, we still feel scared now, holiday parks can be good too but you really got to be with the right ones who will protect you and got to be off site one or more months a year, if your wife has MS take a look at your decking if you can get a ramp fitted at later date, it’s about living life, why we can, there are some great sites across the country and some that just want your money, you do what you feel best for you and your wife, if it goes wrong it’s life, we always get through it,enjoy yourselves and as long as your happy that’s all that matters.
Life is full of risks, we wouldn’t do anything if we didn’t take a risk, each year we go away we take a risk, flying driving walking anything is a risk, thanks for following us means a lot to us, the 22 nd we go to Tenerife so hope you follow us, be doing some live videos

I looked into doing this, but the cost of them is more than my house is worth, plus the ground rent and council tax. The majority don't allow pets either and I'm not living without one or giving away the ones I have.
Plus if they ever sell the land you have to move.
Love the idea but too many risks for me.

I agree, our little dogs are our life. Sell your house buy a park home and pay 3-4-5K a year ground rent, leasehold with rules and regulations. What a stupid idea.

as an ex-owner, they are also FREEZING outside of the warm summer months. I tracked the internal vs external temp in mine and the internal temp roughly stays around 4C above the outside temp if it's inhabited, without any heat source on, and that's because of all the vent holes in the floors, walls and ceilings which you can't block or cover up unless you want to turn the inside into a fish tank with all your clothes and furnishings going moldy from the condensation. Even in the summer, when the external overnight temp drops to low teens as is typical, you are mid teens at best inside, and that is chilly. You can imagine how miserable it is in the winter months! And don't be fooled by people telling you to get a "residential" spec van, because more insulation doesn't change the fact that all your heat still disappears straight out of the 300 vent holes all over it and if you like it warm you'll go through a 19kg gas bottle (around £45-50) in half a week. Holidaying in it in the summer? Yes. Living in it full-time? Hell no.

@@DazPreston69 Welcome. But remember you did the video in the height of what could loosely be called "summer" when the temps were warm and so the inside was even warmer. I've lived in one last winter in northumberland 500ft above sea level in the national park and they get biblically cold . You go through gas bottles every few days if you want your GCH running all day at a comfortable temp and it's even more expensive if you choose to heat with leccy. If you haven't yet bought a park home to live in, I strongly STRONGLY advise you to experience a winter in your current van before making a decision. FWIW I'm fully onboard with you about the rental situation here in the UK and I bought one for the exact same reasons you are thinking of buying one, although my circumstances were different. I was shocked at just how quickly they get cold overnight once the sun goes down, even in the summer months! It really is a pretty miserable experience in the winter months - it's a very damp cold so you feel it in your clothes, furnishings, bedding. You can buy all the heated throws, blankets, onesies you want, and wear 10 layers but you never get comfortable with a damp coldness. The only way you stand a chance is by running the GCH boiler at full chat and/or have a bunch of oil-filled leccy rads on max = £££££.
Again my advice is do a winter in the current van before making any decision on a resi site. Don't listen to people on Facebook static caravan chat groups who will tell you it's all roses and about "making memories" and shout you down if you try to have a discussion about the realities.

Great videos documenting your journey and this was something we thought about 5 years ago and now looking into once again. My concerns are still around ground rent and how much this will rise as the last residential home we looked at taking poll tax into account was over £4.5K per year, so small increases in any, may have a bigger impact, obviously, if you live on a 365 non-residential holiday park the poll tax is £0.... Cost of energy given the parks are commercial and not subject to any cap, although solar with batteries would help, lastly the longevity of the homes, given you need this to last most of your remaining of your years and probably won't be able to afford another in your 80's. I'm guessing most of my points will have crossed your minds but would like to get your thoughts and keep the updates coming

I moved into a caravan 4 years ago the site is very pleasant and people speak wich is nice.
    BUT......the fuel bills are high
Pets are allowed here no council tax but ground rent.but it is very cold.we are freezing in the winter because we cannot afford the bills which will be even worse now we wont get yhe winter fuel allowance i am very worried.
We do gave to leave fir 2 weeks every year in february we cannit afford to go abroad so staying in this country is expensive.
Its ok here but if by any chance i could buy a bungalow i would snap it up.

don't do it. i've just come out of one. what you'll be saving on rent you'll be spending on leccy and gas to heat it if you want to be warm. £200 a month in gas or leccy for heating is what you should budget for if you are going to be in it all day. You'll go through a 19kg gas bottle (£45-50) in less than a week.
