Elvis Presley - Memphis Tennessee (take 1, 1964)

- Here's take 1 of Elvis' 1964 studio recording of Chuck Berry's Memphis Tennessee, set to photos of Elvis out and about in Memphis from the 50s to the 70s and performing in 61, 74, 75 and 76, plus a few photos I took during my most recent visit in 2017.
Just to reconfirm the first photo is not a fake. This is a message today from Linda Thompson -"Yes it is absolutely real"
People might have thought it fake because it obviously wasn’t taken in 1964.
@@douglas61920 the song is 64, photos from 50s-70s

What a Huge Icon!! Look at us he's been gone now for 45 years! And we Still can't get enough of the Man! Oh!! Excuse Me! " THE KING"
Thank you
What do we all have in common >>> Elvis fans and an appreciation of how this man could sing any type of songs and a great entertainer. No one has come close to this guy. I hope the New movie does him justice and opens up to a new audience of Elvis fans who then need to stat looking at his past movies and concerts to see just how good he was and what an influence he had on the entire world. He went from a skinny poor boy to a handsome mature man that most women wanted
you forgot fat and drug filled, why is that?
his voice never failed him, how well could you have handled his success ?

The King
I was at Graceland the morning he died. I was a little girl and my dad was on a business trip to Memphis, so mom and I tagged along for the day. Mom was a huge fan and very time we went to Memphis, we had to stop at Graceland! That hot day, his cousin was working the gate and asked if we wanted to go up to the house…so of course, my mom said yes! We got into the back of his white truck and went up to the front door. He told us all kinds of things about the house and about Elvis. Two things stood out to my 8-year-old brain: the big, long car with shiny pipes out front and the fact that his cousin said Elvis sleeps until about 3 to 4 pm daily…I thought that sounded crazy for a grown person! We headed to some office building in midtown, mom and I heard the news from a secretary that he’d been taken to the hospital, then we were all glued to the radio. My mom and I sat in our car the rest of that afternoon listening to his music play on FM 100 and she cried.
I now live in Memphis and everyone here has an Elvis story. I know a retired cop who was there and saw him dead on his bathroom floor. Poor Elvis needed people who weren’t yes men…rehab could have saved him. Different times.
The thing is, those “yes men” were paid to be “yes men” and to NEVER tell him no. If Elvis wanted ANYTHING, you better bet that he had people in place that would, and/or could, get it for him, regardless of what it was!!! Lots of rich and famous people have other people around them that are willing to do any, and every, thing for them, including, but not limited to, getting stuff that isn’t good for them. Most of the time, their own bad habits, and choices, are the main reason for their untimely demise!!! It happens to the best of them. Case and point, Elvis Aaron Presley!!!
Awesome!
Man...just look at that last photo at 2:40 for a minute or so, and think of all it represents. Just a super cool dude, driving his own car, waving at fans and smiling. No body guards, no foul language, window down, having a good time. His wave looks like he's saying, "So long everybody. I love you, it's been fun. Lotsa fun..."
Nice observation Sadly it was the day he died

alright
I am always amazed that a country with relatively little history has such glorious state names, while we in the good old United Kingdom could never, ever compose songs like this. Can you imagine it, '' left my home in Wigan Lancashire, London on my mind, I traveled,'' I will go no further, my journey is complete.
Кажется незатейливая песенка, но какое же гениальное исполнение. Да, Элвис так рванул вперёд время, что остался в одиночестве, но теперь он не один, с ним весь мир. Браво Король!
I'd heard about his version of "Memphis" before but I'd never heard it, so thanks!
Chuck Berry - greatest lyricist in history! Elvis - greatest EVERYTHING else in history!
Yes Chuck was certainly one of the greats
@@rickeap the lyrics he wrote and when he wrote them - incredible. Late 50s into the 60s - when rock 'n roll was still in its infancy - Chuck Berry wrote and recorded so many extraordinary songs.
@@elvez1231 I was lucky enough to see him live when he toured Australia
I wouldn't say Chuck was "the greatest lyricist in history"
1. After Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977, the African American newspaper, the Chicago Defender explained that: “When Elvis Presley breathed his last breath and the press hailed him as the ‘King of Rock,’ Ol’ Man River cried out, ‘Naw he ain’t! My friend Chuck Berry is the King of Rock. Presley was merely a Prince who profited from the royal talent of a sovereign ruler vested with tremendous creativity. Had Berry been white, he could have rightly taken [Presley’s] throne and worn his crown well.’”

@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 You don't have to agree with me. It's just an opinion. For the record - I love Stevie Wonder and I love Chuck Berry. I bought many of both artists' records. I never bought a single of Elvis' . I was commenting on his LIVE concerts and his enormous popularity - similar to the way I feel about Ali.
The truth of me is this - I have no interest in discussing anything with anyone who continues to embrace a victim-mentality. It clouds every word and takes the fun out of everything.
That leather duster coat is fantastic.
As are those thighs at 1:40.
Remember the story the boys told about this song in "Elvis: What Happened?"
EP recorded it, and Johnny Rivers came over to visit at Graceland, and Elvis played it for him. He LOVED it, and then quickly recorded himself singing it with Elvis' arrangement, and put it out on the market before Elvis' version got out.
that's correct - Rivers Stole it. Elvis never spoke to him again. I hate Rivers and never bought anything he did = Thief is what he is
So true, Rivers ripped him off, would of been a hit for the King
And that was the last time Mr Rivers visited Graceland

Great photos, but I think the constant supposed fornication is why God took him home early, imo. He believed strongly in God, but you cannot live that way. Great Gospel Albums. I think the only award he got was for his gospel album. Cursed with good looks, the devil tempted him.

Como todos sou fã de Elvis e de suas músicas, mas quando olho para a vida dele vejo muita tristeza. Ele tinha tudo, mas era extremamente infeliz. Aí me pergunto?
Glad you used this song.

Amazing action photos of The King!
I think everything was said about Elvis but I can't get enough of saying it, Elvis was really great.Elvis forever
Elvis enjoyed all of his toys exactly what I would have done!
❤ 🏆 ❤
The MAIN problem, that Elvis ran into, is that he was so rich and famous that he could have absolutely ANYTHING he wanted. And after having it ALL for so many years, I think he just finally got bored with life and just started experimenting with things that were NOT so good, for anyone, which ultimately, in the end, led to his death. I mean, just think about it. If Elvis wanted ANYTHING, you better bet that he had people in place that would, and/or could, get it for him, regardless of what it was, good and/or bad!!! And if we have learned anything from history, it is that there is a whole lot of rich and famous people that have other people around them that are willing to do any, and every, thing for them, including, but not limited to, getting stuff that isn’t good for them. And, more times than not, in the end, it is their very own bad habits, and choices, that end up being the main reason for their untimely demise!!! It even happens to the very best of them. Case and point right here, Elvis Aaron Presley!!! And, while it is very sad, no doubt, it is a person’s own choices that they, themselves, have to ultimately live with, good and/or bad, as well as, for better and/or for worse!!! It is what it is… and it ain’t what it ain’t!!!

Lyrics:
Long distance information give me Memphis, Tennessee
Help me find the party trying to get in touch with me
She could not leave her number but i know who placed the call
My uncle took the message and he wrote it on the wall
Help me information to get in touch with my Marie
She's the only one who'd phone me here from Memphis, Tennessee
Her home is on the southside, high upon a ridge
Just a half a mile from the Mississippi bridge
Help me information more than that i cannot add
Only that i miss her and all the fun we had
But we were pulled apart because her mom did not agree
Tore apart our happy home in Memphis, Tennessee
The last time i saw Marie she was waving me goodbye
With hurry home drops on her cheek that trickled from her eye
Marie is only six years old, information please
Try to put me through to her in Memphis, Tennessee
