    Thank you for showing us this. I’m going to try it. Crazy how awesome the tree life community is man. I never thought I would make so many awesome friends just by turning tree jobs into UA-cam videos. I’m not as good or dedicated to them as you are but the community is definitely there and I absolutely love it. Again thank you and stay safe sir.

    Good stuff August. Well done getting the tree rigged back over the "cagey" neighbor's fence.
    Great cat rescue story, and also sad that the cat died a few months later. "Word of mouth" advertising really is priceless. I have found that to be true again and again.
    Thanks for sharing and keep yourself safe!

    This is my first time ever seeing this dude and he seems like one of the most pure human beings I've come across. Moral to all of his stories.... it is important how we treat each other. Kindness pays dividends. Not to be confused with being taken advantage of though. August made the choice to come help for free, not to work for free.

    Can’t figure out why I’m only seeing some of these quality videos until now. But sure do like your explanations, demonstrations, wisdom and good testimony. “Made for this”...In more ways than one! Lots of people can do the job. Less can do it well. A few can show people. Small fraction can teach people. If I had to guess I’d say you have the “gift” of teaching and you do your craft well. Thanks for your efforts in this area...spreading the wealth of good technique.

    YOu just showed how you are a success in business as you care about the people and treat everyone well as it isn't always about money as Good Will and even if you didn't get the jobs out of it then it made what you do worthwhile and a service to the people. I once tracked a job and thru the phone call after I got 26 jobs from that one call. So Never trust the companies that spend so much on advertising as they are the "One Shot Wonders" as the people will wonder why they ever called them as it all goes south and no matter the price they will be upset. So I appreciate the skill you show for a hobbyist like me as I give you mad respect. I'll stick to cleaning out peoples drains and plumbing work; as it's great leaving and feeling you helped solve the problem..

I also didnt know about you or monkey beaver before I started. I have an okay ish saddle. It gets uncomfortable after a couple hours though. I have a family and want to leave a legacy for my boys to take over, but when I can gather up enough money for one of your saddles thats exactly what Im going to do. I used to climb rock faces, and obviously had know a few knots. I had a theory that working as a design engineer and drawing things in 3D gave me the ability to visualize to see things in 3D space so to speak, which made knots easy for me. I loved the cat story and its moral of an act of kindness paying off with work you might not have otherwise had. August reminds me of emergency room doctors. The ones who initially stand back and calmly analyze the situation and organize the their team of junior doctors and nurses. They have a calm intelligence that shows in their eyes, which has a positive effect on the team. August has that look, and I suspect he would have done well at whatever he chose to do in life.

Where the curve of the pole bends the bowline tighter instead of the example on the yellow line in the tree where the curve is breaking open the knot. Great cat story August. I also agree that you can wear spikes and not use them or use them without damaging tree, by not jamming them in and placing them in the cracks in the bark, while being lite on your feet. I don't do this a lot, but sometimes you need to, to be safer. I believe it can be done without damage to tree. Thanks August

    August , I recently built one of those air cannons and rather than using the air pump you should get one of the little co2 bike tire inflators. One 16 gram canister gets you like 160-180 psi. Or you can put multiple. I got the idea from my big co2 tank in my Jeep I use offroading. It's way easier and cheap!!

    I've documented bark beetle larvae in climbing spur holes. The holes release the scent of pitch and the the beetle homes in on it and lays its eggs. It depends on the time of year too. In the late spring/summer it seems they are out flying around.
    that's the way I tie a running bowline too, learned it from an arborist a long time ago, go figure.
    when I made a video on it I had a bunch of people say it was wrong.

    • @AugustHunicke
      @AugustHunicke  5 років тому

      prioritytree As long as the knot comes out a bowline that’s pretty silly they would say it was wrong.
      Lots of pissing contests on the web.
      Yeah about the beetles, I follow the industry standards but only for political correctness sake, and to avoid the “appearance of evil.”
      I don’t buy the anti-spur hype.
      If the trees can handle spur holes WHILE they are having whole limbs cut off, then they are good specimens for survival.
      Beetles don’t need a spur hole to kill a forest. They wipe out millions and millions of un-spurred trees.

    • @prioritytree
      @prioritytree 5 років тому

      @@AugustHunicke Yeah, on the beetle, I guess a lot depends on the time of year and whether or not you have a major beetle infestation in your area, in Norcal we have a problem and it's getting worse. I made this video 12 years ago on a beetle infestation that got in a tree I was in the process of taking down by myself. It took a while delimbing and chipping. ua-cam.com/video/oSNuiZA4H2Y/v-deo.html

    Thanks for sharing, August!
    How comes you always sound sad or at least melancholic when talking about something good? The act alone (rescuing a cat for free) should make you feel proud, let alone it paid for itself in the long run. Love your attitude of sharing knowledge and parts of your life.
    Take care up there!

      Not sure, but, I’m not sad about the cat thing, so it must be my delivery is mis-read. My mom says I have a dry sense of humor. I don’t fake smile for pictures etc.

      He just seems more acta non verba than most animated people.
      I empathise, I apparently have the resting homicidal maniac face and get accused of being a grumpy old man..... Its just my face I cant sugar coat an expression.

      Ya me too. My eyebrows are very low over my eyes. I was born with my face cast in a grimace 😁

    I love you man! (In a brotherly way) I'm a 58 year old new climber. I got the equipment, then the CDL, then the arborist license, then opened the business, now I'm learning to climb. No pressure!😮( As we use to say back in the day, I must be out of my tits)

    August, great video! The editing is incredible - may have taken more time than felling the tree itself?!? Also thanks for the running bowline pointer. That is really slick!

    That’s pretty awesome. I do mine with this tweaked slipknot technique. It’s pretty fast too just do a slipknot on the tail end run it under the other end then thru the slipknot pull a piece over it then tighten it super easy and fast esp in weird parts of the tree
