"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." (John 5:24)
AUNT FAITH LOVED THIS HYMN. SHE PASSED AWAY ON APRIL 15 1914. SHE WAS 91. MAY SHE BE SINGING IT WITH JOHNNY CASH UP I HEAVEN. I LOVE YOU AUNT FAITH. YOU WILL LIVE IN MY HEART FOREVER.
I'm looking forward to meeting Johnny Cash in heaven one day really soon. Nice to see a time when big stars still knew how to humble themselves. Maranatha!
When my beloved Quarter horse, Misty, passed away on December 12, 2009 at the ripe old age of 32 human years old, I sang this hymn beside her grave when I was alone after we buried her. I was truly blessed to have had such a wonderful & loving horse in my life. A very special place in my heart will always belong to her, no matter how many horses I might meet or ride between now & when we meet again in Paradise.
As a young girl, my grandfather would pick my brother and me up for church every Sunday. He would belt this song out so loud on the way. It really brings back, special, memories. Johnny you sound great singing it, as well!
This was actually a Swedish poem, written by a man called Carl Gustav Boberg in 1885. The tune was based on a piece of Swedish folk music. It was translated into English and had two verses added by a British missionary called Stuart K. Hine. How fortunate we are for it to have made that incredible journey to enliven all our joy in our saviour!
A delightful, uplifting rendition of this one of my favorite hymns. You can bet Johnny is singing this song in heaven to God Almighty. Rest in peace Mr. Cash.
For you Pappa!! My grandfather, who greatly impressed my life, and all my family's life and all the people he touched. He was our County Judge or in office, about 25 years serving HIS community.. How this song makes me really miss him 27 years later... but YOU are singing with the angels Pappa!! Miss you! Songwriter Chicks
Wow...You could never get away with singing this kind of song on TV nowadays and that's really a shame...I'm not religious but I remember this song as a child and somehow it made an impression on me. Glad to have found it on UA-cam!
Bill Walker was music director for the Cash Show. His band is associated with the Statler Brother TV show and I enjoyed his Gospel piano playing especially on that classic series. Statlers also sang background in the old Cash show. I miss those old shows.
@thetanksley5 So sorry to hear that... Sure it's so difficult for ya as I myself just lost my beloved uncle 2 weeks ago... God bless them both. They might be listening to music together now..
Why did he mention Frances Crosby (her name has a different meaning in English English)? I don't know if she translated this, but she certainly didn't write it. The music was set to the Swedish poem written by Carl Boberg.
How great is he! Why does my child look away from the man he once looked up to. Why do so many , until they need him on their side! Or until death finds their family or friends.
Johnny has the timing and speed right; but lacks the force of real spiritual passion. I have not heard it sung perfectly yet. Any recommendations? Force and passion ! ! Praise with real passion. A soul really singing "How great Thou art ! "
RS - If you click on the UA-cam link up in the lefthand corner (or probably most anywhere you see it here), you'll be taken to another page. Down at the bottom of that page are listed a series of topics, some of which may be helpful. There's also a "search" box/window, which you can use to gain more info. For example, I tried entering/searching for "download video", and several articles came up. You may be able to find the answers you're seeking through that YT resource. Hope this helps... :)
What a moving song. It is not just America that has lost its Christian direction, here in the UK we suffer much the same when the morning assembly in schools has drifted away from its Christian base in case 'we might offend some people'. The is a place here for all faiths so why should we be denied our heritage?
Great song great entertainer second only to the Statler brothers version. Interestingly enough the Statler brothers are signing back up to Mr. Cash on this video.
Do you Know HIM - - - God :Jesus Christ ? He Is The Way . . . ONLY WAY!! ` "Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures: And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures" 1 Cor.15: 1-4
"Oh store Gud" is the word in Swedish. I wish Johnny Cash was Swedish and sang this song. Try "Artur Ericsson" and "O, store Gud" on you tube, and just listeen!
Both johnny cash and elvis did a great job on this but I think elvis's verison was only better cuz he had the advantage of having a stronger voice and the stamps but johnny did great I love them both
@elauraburnette I do what I can by removing the most offensive comments (usually left at the clip of Cash doing Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage"). My Cash clips are not a gathering place for negative energy! I respect anybody's right to express their opinion, but if they're a-holes about it, I don't have to provide them a forum.
Public expression of religious faith brings out the worst in me. I think religious faith is something that should be practiced privately like masturbation. The two practices are essentially similar.
Johnny was (is) the man. And what a wonderful rendition, of a beautiful hymn. Thank you, John, and thank you GOD.
No matter what song he did, he did good. We will play again up yonder.

I'm looking forward to meeting Johnny Cash in heaven one day really soon. Nice to see a time when big stars still knew how to humble themselves. Maranatha!
God is good all the time and God is still in control.

Acts 2:38 KJV Salvation.
As a young girl, my grandfather would pick my brother and me up for church every Sunday. He would belt this song out so loud on the way. It really brings back, special, memories. Johnny you sound great singing it, as well!
I love it. Johnny Cash singing a song directly to our Savior Jesus Christ.❤

I Love this song, he does a great job on it! God bless!
"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
Hope we'll all be hearing Johnny sing up in Heaven.
My dad and granddad used to sing this for us, many years ago.
That must have been very beautiful.
I just came across this hymn recently and I was taken away... Yes How Great thou art... Love is all there is.
Do you have a bugatti
Best version!
Magnificent, in fact this is an old Swedish Song, Oh Store Gud by Carl Boberg,
now sung all over the world.
Best version ever recorded.
How great thou art O'Lord Jesus''' I love you'''''
His ministry still sings to us in the end times....
Such a beautiful rendition of this great hymn. Thanks for posting it.

Does it really matter it is a lovely Hymn
***** To Carl Bobergs heritage it certainly does.
I love this music
What a voice! Excellent for this song. Also hear Sandi Patty's version-too good!
@svpst1 The Statler Brothers were Cash's house band for his TV series. I think they were on every episode.
How great is he! Why does my child look away from the man he once looked up to. Why do so many , until they need him on their side! Or until death finds their family or friends.
I love it.
I love it
gotta love old J.C.
This song is often used during ordinary time. But it has a real Christmas sound to it.
The Carter Family and The Statler Brothers if, I'm not mistaken
I love this man and his wife and i honestly believe that they will be waiting for me at the pearly gates!!!!!See ya then!!!
The backers are the Carter Family. You should check them out!
Johnny has the timing and speed right; but lacks the force of real spiritual passion. I have not heard it sung perfectly yet. Any recommendations? Force and passion ! ! Praise with real passion. A soul really singing "How great Thou art ! "
UA-cam killed Johnnys other version where he speaks of Gods creation before he sings the song.
Bravo

God is our chief friend.
Isn't that the Statler Brothers and the Carter Family on backup? No matter, this is a great song being sung by a great artist.
Yes it is the Statlers and the Carters.
I must agree The Statler Brothers version is better But Johnny's place is established! Will be seeing him again in the sweet by and by!!
Great song great entertainer second only to the Statler brothers version. Interestingly enough the Statler brothers are signing back up to Mr. Cash on this video.
@abargle Great job, thanks, and I fully agree.
Great song great entertainer second only to the Statler brothers version.
When your in prison God and Johnny Cash keeps you alive.

@hammeron39 Amen to that!

@svpst1 I must say, I uploaded this clip and as much as I love it, Elvis OWNS this song in our house!
@abargle I know. :) Doesn't keep it from ticking me off, but I'm sure I do my fair share.
Great song!
Does anybody know what chord he's playing at 3:00 ?
Thanks for answers! :-)
.....you've got to give the man credit, he tried very hard to do what was right. Jreb

And the Statler Brothers are the male singers.
@elauraburnette Human nature.
i like this version of jhonny cash, its a good singer too,... but elvis voice , have something more divine!!!!
There should be a parody "How bad thou farts."
I think you're a parody Mr. Kricker -behave yourself, stupidity never brings people very far!
Public expression of religious faith brings out the worst in me. I think religious faith is something that should be practiced privately like masturbation. The two practices are essentially similar.
