  • My First Time Smoking Kizami Tobacco out of a KISERU PIPE, the Traditional Japanese Method for Consuming Nicotine. "Iroh" was the brand used in today's video, but Koiki is the most notable variety by far. All items used were purchased at the Tobacco and Salt Museum in Tokyo, and are difficult to find at normal shops or convenience stores.

Yo Jacob, I know they don't have this type of tobacco in the US, but there's plenty of tobacco here that has a similar cut to this so it'd be good to smoke out of a kiseru pipe. Personally, Robert McConnell's Special Fine Cut is a great alternative for kizami!

As soon as you said fine fluffy tobacco I knew exactly what you meant. I believe they call this cut "shag" in the western world. Popular in Europe with rolling your own cigarettes. I came to Canada from Europe and I searched everywhere for this stuff it was hard to find. But we have Drum here. In Europe they have way more brands. Van Nelle, Karelia, Golden Virginia to name a few. Man a pipe that is meant to INHALE for this kind of tobacco sounds right down my alley. Thank you for sharing this. Definitely roll this stuff it will be amazing !

Ha! That's not just Japanese tobacco! Everything you showed and described is also a 98% match for Belgian Semois. The history explains the missing 2%...
This goes back to Japan's initial opening to Western trade via the port of Nagasaki. The Dutch and Portuguese were allowed in...but not the Spanish. So until the Jamestown Colony started, what Europe knew as "tobacco" was a bit closer in character to Caribbean strains we know today.
The British changed that. They skirted the Spanish Empire's monopoly with their new, lighter Virginia tobaccos. And this proved to be a better fit for pipe smoking...which is another thing that came to Europe via Jamestown.
So when the Japanese first encountered tobacco, all odds say that it would have been those same "bright" strains from Virginia. And this is where things diverge...
Not long after the introduction of tobacco, the Shogun had finally had enough of all of these foreign things that everyone HAD to have, Western ideas like Christianity, and money leaving Japan in the pockets of traders. So he shut down Dejima, no more Dutch and Portuguese, fin. As for smoking accoutrements, it makes sense that the pipe has some things in common with a medwaq, since that style of pipe was prevalent from central Asia eastward. And dokha is definitely as coordination-wrecking as both that Japanese fine shag and, yep, Semois.
But that extra 2% gets docked because, while Japan kept their tobacco as close as possible to the original trade product, Semois continued to develop in terms of flavor, arriving as something I'd call "Virginia cranked up to 11". It's TASTY...enough that you could be really fooled about the strength to a degree such that one sudden movement would drop you onto the Wurly Express! You were fine 15 seconds ago, soo...uhh..whuh? That's when you suddenly have the strength of ten men who have ten mega robots with their own mega robots and...fortunately you make it to the toilet in time for several embarrassing minutes of dry heaves. Don't hit Semois hard...very bad idea. Even makes Black XX Twist seem like decaf. So, tiny pipe yes.
Seriously, Semois would be the real ideal in a traditional Japanese pipe. Cut the same, packs the same, even BURNS the same. Worth a shot, I think.

Little tip you're absolutely not supposed to roll the tabaco in a ball you got to keep it aerated like all other pipes to get a nice air flow and uniform combustion so i've seen a Japanese man do it the proper way you take just a pinch beetwin you're index and tub and rub the excess on the pipe border then just put it in there and don't press it the little excess on the sides gonna burn and you got yourself a perfect kiseru 👌

Kiseru is enjoyed without inhaling smoke into the lungs like a pipe or cigar.

Seems to depend who you ask as to whether you are supposed to inhale or not, ain't got no beef either way, but I choose to inhale. Should have acknowledged that during this video, but did not

Let me try to help you.
The tobacco is like silver shag used in the Netherlands for hand rolling.
Strong biting smoking is in how you pack to bowl ,choose to light it match lighter ember.
It is brand new you tend to pull too hard like a new cigar smoker.
Have a sake or beer and smoke gently

Hi. Raw tobacco is always harsh to inhale. It is natural. It is very much like when you smoke a cigar.

  • @masonite6450

Im pretty sure i saw that you are not supposed to inhale from a kiseru.

  • @bigfrankfraser1391

i myself use a 47cm kiseru, cools the tobacco smoke off enough that its light and delicate on the throat, since i cant get kizami, i like to smoke Peterson Sherlock Holmes tobacco

    • @jacobfuckingjones
      @jacobfuckingjones  Рік тому

just looked up that tobacco, seems a little bit thick cut to be smoked out a kiseru to me, but i think i'll have to give it a shot! maybe not that specific tobacco, but ribbon cut tobacco as a whole though.
appreciate the video idea, and good to know about the length! might have to find a longer one sometime later on

Sadly so 😔 Thankfully shag-cut rolling tobacco also does the trick, and smokes just fine in a kiseru pipe, but it isn't quite the same of course.

    It says 'iroha.' Pronounced ee-row-ha.
I always wanted to try a kiseru. The only ones I could find while I was there was the novelty type that you put a cigarette into. Then again, I was a cigarette connoisseur back then.

did u film all the videos on this mountain on the same day? i noticed you posted a few on a mountain, but it seemed like you left once you got done smoking. not that it matters, im just wondering if you kept going back up. For some reason or another, im curious lmao.
Also, how do you manage to keep getting that buzz? I cant get buzzed off tobacco anymore so i use synthetic salt-nic vapes. like the disposable ones mainly (like what elf bars are, but other brands) after like a year of smoking it just stopped for me. same with everyone else ik who smokes cigs, they dont get a buzz anymore either.

    • @jacobfuckingjones
      @jacobfuckingjones  Рік тому +9

i did a bunch of hiking in japan, so apart from two videos which were filmed on the same mountain, they're all different areas!
and sadly i don't really have a good answer for the second question. it might have to due with the amount I smoke, or the time i don't smoke in between cigs, but I've also always been extra sensitive to alcohol, nicotine, and other consumables in general, so that could be another factor. Don't know anything for sure myself though.

    • @Scumful

@@jacobfuckingjones im jealous of your abilities to keep that buzz going man. fr thats awesome! i was just curious if you had some sort of schedule or something you follow to make sure you never gain too high of a tolerance, but thats nice u can exp. it still!
Also, like you i assume, i love the mountains man! so real glad that you gotta exp. all that fun stuff while traveling brotha!

I have been smoking for a two years and I still get a buzz often, I think that the fact that I don't smoke more than 3 - 5 cigarettes a day really helps on keeping it going

    • @Peasant_of_Pontus

As someone who's an on and off nicotinist u have to have breaks when you're off the stuff. A few hours will get you a weak buzz, a few days a good one, and after a few months itll be like the first time you tried.
