Translation: I watched this video while smoking a pipe.
what kind of base metal?
@@RBYW1234 Are you asking to me?
My pipe"kiseru" is made from brass and some kind of bamboo.
But the color of brass-parts is silver.
I believe it is gilded with a another metal.
My father in law and late mother in law came from Japan. Before covid, they would visit regularly and bring back the most amazingly well-crafted and thoughtfully engineered things. RIP, Baba.
I like how calm and collected these craftsman are at their work. They are not rushing and sprinting to get tasks done, they just do it at their pace with incredible results.
the man is 90 years old, i don't think he is in a rush with anything.
I was honestly just thinking the same thing... I've seen some other people after making them for so long they'll start to rush it with very little results but this guy is just calm as can be taking his time just to make these perfect.
In case anyone was wondering why the bowl is so small it's for smoking tiny amounts of finely minced tobacco. Tobacco from America/Caribbean was imported to Japan through trade with the Dutch & Portuguese therefore very expensive.
Pipes as well, also Native to the Americas.
Since I quit smoking 20 some years ago, I first felt the urge to smoke watching him drag through his creation!
True "Old World" craftsmanship. Every piece different, each one a piece of art.
old world soldering, old world buffing machine, old world quenching fluid, old world sheet of silver metal, old world blow torch
90 years old?!, he doesn't look 90 at all, it's like he's still in his 50s!. I think I'm more amazed at that than i should be considering this man's skills he beholds and the product he produced was beautiful.
lol 50's
@Miguel SilvaIt's probably the thing that kept him alive! Haha
90 years old, and yet he held the drill steady when drilling the hole on the end of the pipe freely. Some of us might get it slipped and drill out hand instead 😅.
I'm also calling shenanigans. No way that man is 90.
Incredible craftsmanship. I would pay a lot of money for one of those pipes
The skill and techniques are just stunning. He is absolutely a Master of his craft
Dude has embraced modern technology because hand-sanding is a pain. I love it.
Translation: You can see at a glance how ingenious each jig is. A real craftsman.
I try to watch all your posts.
They are: Fascinating. Educational. Beautiful. Important. Necessary.
Thank you.
i really appreciate japanese craftsmanship. i wish we had this kind of dedicatioin and proudness of a craftman in western europe
This video was amazing such craftsmanship is rarely seen in our modern day
Yup. These days you can see where the mold ends for the metal pipes, the arts are dying.. may newer and younger generations find a spark of interest in the old trades again.
.. But the money...
We won't have many more chances to see how it's done, thank you for documenting this.
As a pipe smoker with an interest in Japan and Japanese craft, it is natural for me to have an interest in kiseru's. But I'm also a purist and want to have kizami to go with it as well, but that's something I can't get my hands on, due to Japanese export restrictions. I wish Japan would change that.
Beautiful work. That man does not look 90 years old. Smoking no less.
I need one of those hand sanders he used! These kind of videos are always a joy to watch. With just a few relatively simple tools, this guy's making master tier stuff. Just goes to show that its not about the tools, its knowing how to use what ya got. I mean, he used a piece of wood for what, 4 different things int he process?
Now i feel like buying one
A bit shakey at the start, then about at7mins he get into it. The man has is a master. Really makes me want to buy one.
Makes me want to know how much one made out of silver would cost, such craftsmanship!
i'm 18 and i am from alaska, USA
im buying all of the required tools to start crafting and selling my own kiseru pipes
cool video
The dexterity this man has at 90 is just unbelievable - people with a purpose live long man... its crazy ~
I know, huh. It makes me want to stay active in whatever service i can be of until i can no longer work.
It's like back injuries, contrary to what most think, walking and moving and stretching helps after the initial healing.
Beautiful pipes reminded me of Chinese opium pipes from 1800s
Lovely video, thank you for posting.
There is something very peaceful about watching the old generation work. A skill they have perfected over so many years of their lives.. And to believe that is how they will be remembered. That's how we all will eventually be remembered, by what we did best.
Many thanks for sharing this wonderful video, most interesting
Thanks to the people who created tabacco and peace pipes we get these amazing traditions and appreciations from all over the world : D
Now make one with a large bowl and we're in business.
An amazing job from an awesome man great job 👏 ❤
He looks good for a 90 year old man and to still be able to work his trade is inspiring.
If Japan ever legalizes cannabis, artisans like this guy would explode in popularity.
That definitely has an appearance of an opium pipe. Beautiful craftsmanship!!
@Patrick shea If you had half the ability of this man you wouldn't have to live with crackheads
@Patrick shea cool? Good for you? Glad you know people like that, I guess?
@patrickshea5955 you're on that good shit huh
@patrickshea5955 Near as I can make out from his website, it looks like they're around 2000 yen, which is like $15.
Meu respeito ao senhor que seu trabalho.
I'm about to fall asleep but then there's a loud thump at the end now I'm fully awake
Very pretty. Thanks~
Best of Best 👍
Magnifique travail d'artiste !
Amazing skill.
And shops complain about me asking $15 for a glass pipe I made, smh
Can you post one of these every single day? These are amazing videos! I'm so glad I found these Japanese craftsman videos
You expect a guy to arrange filming a craftsman all day, drive to and from location, film and edit and post a video like this every day? For you? King?
Unless that was a question and not a request. The the answer is no.
Whatever fits in the pipe.
i was going to stop after the first minute but its just so interesing. i like that hes embraced new tools when it warrents it.
Much respect for this distant artisan, from Japan's ancient friend 🇮🇳🇮🇳♥️🇯🇵🇯🇵
beautiful kiseru
Truly enjoy watching a craftsman at work. Thank you for posting this! Great piano backgroungd music, too! What is the name of the song?
That man is a true craftsman and I hope he has someone to pass his skills/knowledge on to
this is art, and we have to preserve it...

Très bon travail, un vrai artiste.
Ta mère m'a fait une pipe
Wow amazing work sir
Nice work Master I fully approve of your craftsmanship!😁👍
I can remember my great- grandfather smoking his pipe . He smoked cherry flavored tobacco.
Time suddenly stood still as the master crafted the pipe when the pipe was done the master rests with a bit of "tobacco" happy 4/20
