My schizo/bipolor symptoms have been getting worse recently and hearing you talk about your own physical/mental health issues made me feel less alone about it. Thank you so much, wishing you all the best with it!
dude I just recently found your channel. You and the powell crew have created such a beautiful vibe…I haven’t skated in years and I went out for a roll today after binging like 10 of your videos. I currently live in WA state but* I grew up in the san fernando valley down in LA and it’s SO nostalgic seeing you guys skate all over that area, and elsewhere in socal. makes me home sick but in a good way, having a crew of friends to skate with during my teen years kept me on a positive path whereas otherwise I would likely have gone down a dark one. that culture shaped me, and you embody that positive force everytime you get out there. thank you so much for sharing these days with us, here on youtube. and regarding your health, I commend you for your open-ness and bravery. lots of dudes our age don’t even go to the doctor, talking about these issues is almost taboo. you’re setting the right example, I trust that the skills you have are well suited to tackling these issues going forward, keep your head up, keep surrounding yourself with the friends you’re so lucky to have, and I’ll keep living vicariously through your content. 👊
I had Lyme when I was in my early 20's before there were a lot of studies, and doctors didn't have an understanding on how to treat it. It ruined 8 years of my life, the panic attacks, my nervous system was destroyed, spams, fevers.I felt like I was crazy and dying. I'm in my early 40's now, and that period of my life will forever haunt me. I learned a real lot though, and I can tell you that it will get better. Today we have studies, and doctors who have a deeper understanding. All the best Dan. I won't give you unsolicited health advice, though I do have some tips if you ever were seeking some from someone who has experience. The best tip though is to advocate for yourself, and if you are not getting anywhere move on as fast as you can. All the best man
I’ve had LD since 92 and it kicked my ass mentally and physically. I still have heart issues but I’m used to it and listen to my body more than ever. Hang in there and kick ass.
Hey, don't get too down on that diagnosis, Dan. I've read a bunch of stuff on Lyme Disease, and it seems the prognosis for even later-diagnosed cases is positive. The recovery is longer, but the antibiotics course should work. Corrigans FTW! ( I'm a Canuck Corrigan ;) )
I pretty much never comment, but I just want to say that I'm with you Dan!!! (By with you i mean liking and watching your vids haha). I've been watching pretty much since the beginning, and you changed my whole attitude to skating, and helped me learn to enjoy it a lot more than i have, (which in turn motivated me to skate more often ) which I am incredibly thankful for! The health thing really sucks, and I can't even begin to imagine how much. But I am just super excited to see you rolling around again, even if not as often or intense as before! And I am sure that whatever the case, you'll still be able to enjoy doing it! (Though i hope and wish that the health stuff is not going to be as serious as it may) Love and wish you the best, Dan!
I feel you man. I've been struggling with panic attacks and SI this last year and a half, and what's been a massive help has been this channel. Just watching people doing something they love with their friends is so cathartically relaxing for me. Whenever I'm having a bad day and I think I'm going nuts, seeing a new video from you in my feed immediately helps sooth the pain.
Sorry to hear, Dan. Be aware, that testing for Lyme is extremely controversial tho. I know it's great to have something on paper, but yea, it might actually be long covid or ME/cfs, which is what I've had for the last 22 years. I'm one of those you talked about who completely had their lives ruined by it.. only got worse and worse since then for me. Hope you'll have more luck and figure out how to deal with it or even improve. All the best!
Big props to you for talking about your health issues. You're not alone, bro. Your head seems to be in the right place, that's half the battle won right there.
So sorry to hear that dude. You're one of the most strategic skaters of all time who thinks about tricks like a puzzle. This is just a new part of the puzzle. Can't just throw tons of attempts at a trick anymore hoping to get lucky, you gotta try a handful, think about what you need to change while taking a break to let your heart chill, and then go at it again. Now that you know what the problem is I'm sure you can thrive.
We appreciate you being so open and letting us know. I’m a newer person too your channel only been about a few months but I love your content and I hope the absolute best for you.
damn. I'm glad it's not lupus or worse. Lyme disease is as bad as it gets for long term disability. Thank you for being so brave and sharing. Good luck in Tampa. The footage you get will be top tier anyway. Cuz that's the kind of pro you are.
So brave of you to out yourself out there and talk about your health issues. I hope it helps as part of your journey to better physical and mental health. Praying for a full recovery.
As a fellow Dan, fellow dude, and just fellow human being I am so proud of you for talking about your mental health publicly like this! I just had a daughter 3 months ago and with fatherhood has come some anxiety that I've never felt before. It's hard sometimes to talk to friends about it, let alone 100k strangers on the internet! Props to you my guy! (Btw my daughter loves when I put your videos or Nyjah on TV for bottle time. Both calm her right down!) Lymes is no joke man, but we're all behind you, there's no one here that would blame you a bit if things slow! Rest and heal the best you can! Glad you have answers and genuinely stoked to watch your journey and follow you through this!
Lyme disease came to mind cause of the fog and fatigue. Get better my man! Edit: just finished. I have a friend with Lyme disease and it's no joke. Best of luck with getting treatment
Man I’m glad that Lyme disease doesn’t exist in Australia. I’ve removed half a dozen or so ticks from myself after camping trips throughout my life. Also glad I never caught that mammalian meat allergy that some of em carry. I like seafood and stuff but life would be pretty bleak without steak lol
I feel ya, lung condition here and only getting worse, and gets worse each time I get the vid (I think that's what's gonna get me in the end). No idea how Lime Desease effects you but know a thing or two about exaustion and it's a bummer for sure. Makes you feel happy for what you have and what you can still do and very much that the time is now, do things now and not wait. Anyhow it's the things that you can do that make you not the things you can't. keep posting these videos keep finding things to be happy about and all the best. Not plugging this guy at all but have a look and Ren on youtube and a song called "Hi Ren" by Ren. He has Limes Desease and is getting treatment that seems to be going well, he is very truthfull about his troubles as well...Be safe.
Hey I’m an old skater rat surfer who loves your videos. I’m gonna start praying for you to return to complete health and be healed to your original awesomeness. I am a boardsporter with city, state & national wins in skating, snowboarding and surfing. You can never under estimate the power & impact of having people sending you good vibes! Good luck on your health and keep up all the great vids. God Bless 🛹🏂🏄🏽♂️🇺🇸🙏✝️
Around 2016 i started to make real changes in my diet and cleaned up my living ; around 2022 i had a serious set back that really made me minimize my diet to necessity. You are your best advocate at your own dinner table and in your own kitchen. I went protein and healthy fats and low carb , no sugar , no grill , no smoke. I am not a doctor. love your video's
Can you list your daily regimen and routine and whatever you do to be healthy and the changes that you made and how much better that you are now and stuff like that tbh as well tho too?? Like exactly what you pretty much eat and drink everyday.....and also any of any supplements and any vitamins and then anything else that you do everyday too.
Love your channel Dan. Wanted to send you a couple bucks for whatever but maybe to help towards treatment. 38yr old skater from Maine living in Tahoe for 12 yrs. Btw, your ability to self reflect and your self awareness is really amazing, particularly fighting through anxiety disorder. I've been there A LOT myself, it's not easy to freak out and then reset and come out clearer and stronger. Love ya dude 👊🏼👊🏼
Commenting on the panic attack portion of the video: spot on. My partner has had and continues to have panic-anxiety due to PTSD/several trauma. I was always one of those people who was like 'bullshit, mind over matter, cmon you got this, push through'... until I had my first actual panic attack. My partner, bless their soul, guided me through that terrible, life-changing experience with love and grace. I spent the next three hours apologizing to my partner for minimizing their attacks due to my own ignorance and i'll never make that mistake with ANY ailment again.
Love you dude. Your channel got me through a really hard time in 2021 when I was going through some health issues. All better now, and I hope to hear the same from you soon dude. Stay positive.
Thanks for the health update man, I really appreciate it. Take it easy for sure and you should by no means feel pressured to skate or upload if you're pushing your limits. I wish you the best Dan
Thanks for sharing Dan. Sorry you’re going through all this. I personally have long covid and there’s a few studies and a lot of cases of people who got covid and covid reignited Lyme. So it could be both. Not trying to diagnose especially since you are doing all the steps you can do and under good medical care.
Lyme disease is what I've been thinking the past couple times I've heard you talk about it. Im commenting this at the 1:30 mark. 14 min, I wish I had commented this to you earlier. You should look up Ren, he is a UK musician that had it, they misdiagnosed him for years which lead to a lot of bad things. He talks alot about it and has tried really hard to bring more knowledge to the world about the disease and treatments, ect.
😢 feel so bad for you my dude. I feel like talking about all of this is helping you and so many people. I've shared your video with my sister and few times now cause she has some of the same symptoms. Love you and keep your head up. Stay strong and remember alot of us need you to help our own mental health and your helping so many.
Get well soon ! I hope that you'll recover and be able to skate to your full capacity as soon as possible. Your videos helped me through some rough times and I want to thank you for that. Take care
Good luck man. For what it's worth, I had long "vid" for a while, and was tested for lymes (negative). I had pretty much the same symptoms. Racing heart, anxiety, fatigue, derealization, auditory hallucinations, etc. I was basically stuck in fight or flight 24/7. Having a previous panic disorder or health anxiety is definitely a factor in all of it. Part of recovering is learning to trust that your body will be okay. Fear of the disease itself kept the symptoms going on longer for me. The symptom/anxiety feedback loop. Hopefully this is somewhat helpful. This just sounds so much like what I went through and all of the "mystery illnesses" I've gone through. The loop of anxiety, getting weird feelings in my heart, getting more anxious because those feelings, having my heart feel worse because I'm even more anxious, etc. Not saying this is for sure what's going on with you. Just something to be aware of. Most of all, even if things take a turn for the worse, don't lose hope. There were many times I thought I was going to ☠ or that I would never get better. Best of luck.
You've been a big inspiration for me, just watching your videos; I've seen the course your life has taken, through youtube, over the past couple of years and its been this linear progression which is so positive to witness. Now this health situation you've been dealing with has the quality of almost cosmic comedy, like fate has taken the string of your life and plucked it, just to see how the vibrations will play out. It certainly doesn't seem fair. But hopefully the same perseverance and temerity you've used to fight through any hardships you've already faced will serve you here. Skate when you can, rest when you have to, and make videos as long as it makes sense for you. And thanks for your work. Hope you beat this.
lyme sucks man, I'm sorry to hear. on the antibiotics.. you should only take antibiotics for bacterial infections. antibiotics destroy the gut biome and that's why you are having stomach issues following taking it. try adding kombucha or yoghurt AFTER you finish the full cycle of taking them if you plan on taking it again. use caution and ask your doctor if it is even needed because from what you described it does not sound like it.
Doctors always prescribe antibiotics.. That's all they know how to do. My sis is a vet and every "solution" is antibiotics. If your dealing with mental struggles, antibiotics will only make them worse. Gut health is everything. It's shocking how much it affects your mood and body
Really sorry to hear this Dan. Been a fan of your videos and skating for years. I know of two people that have had Lymes, one recovered and the other was wiped out big time, messed their school time up etc. I hope you get the support and info you need. Stay healthy and sending good vibes 👊
Aww man I had Lyme for years and it crossed my mind that it might be that the other day. I didn't have exhaustion but it infected my knee for a year and caused chronic swelling leading to major knee surgery. Best of luck ❤
Love you bro dont be afraid to slow down and even cut back on the videos. I know theres stuff you want to do and keep skating but theres no point oetting your pride get in the way when it can literally kill you. Focus on your health over everything.
So sorry to hear, but I guess it's good to finally know what you have. I actually thought Lime disease was quite possible, I live in Idaho, which we (jokingly) refer to as "the tick fever state" Also I have recently been watching a lot of Ren videos. Not sure if you're familiar with him, but he went through about 10 years of trying to figure out what was ailing him, and finally realized it was Lime. His story is crazy, basically bed ridden for years, doctors told him it was all in his head. Eventually experienced complete psychosis. (before the diagnosis, he's doing very well now) Good luck to you, you got this.
Hey man, keep a positive outlook. I know some folks who had a rough time with Lyme for a while but are feeling better now. I know they did some radical naturopathic IV treatments and stuff, but whatever works!
Glad you found out what was up Dan.. makes me want to get tested for lymes disease now.. I live in a forested property and sometimes feel like you describe.. thanks for sharing bro. Appreciated and always look forward to your videos.. keep on doing what you love, just don't push yourself to much.👍👊
I miss seeing you flow! ! ! I'm sorry you're struggling with your health, i wish we could help more, but please know we are all sending our own versions of positivity and support
I had panic attacks for years. I have a multiple sclerosis diagnosed in 2015. It could be associated with a neurologic disease. What all of these autoimmune diseases have in common is a need for vitamin D and magnesium. Get good quality supplements of those and take it regularly. It really helps long term
Im glad you are feeling better. Getting bit by a tick is surprising. Take care of yourself with good food and water and get off their medicines ASAP. You can now relax your body isn't as big of a mess as you think
Had an idea it was Lyme. I’m in Pa. I got it last summer. Never saw the tick. Had a rash, but not the bulls eye. Went to the ER and they misdiagnosed it, gave me the wrong antibiotics. Went to the Dr. he found it was Lyme. Took doxycycline. That worked a lot better. I still get some of the brain fog. Drinking electrolytes seems to help. I ride 25 miles or more on my bike almost every day, so eventually you can still push yourself hard. Lyme was horrible the first month. Didn’t eat, fever, way worse than Covid.
oh no 😧 I'm so sorry, brother. Do what you can and keep calm. it's awesome what you do and best of wishes on future content. Dan will still crush it! 💪🙏❤
when you find yourself dying, but you survive everytime. the way through is to embrace those feelings. let them in. you might find something cool within.
The technique that helped me was imagining the attack as a wave. And you are a surfer and you need to jump on it and surf it! Let it go, like on a rollercoaster. It works! And it gets easier over time
You want to talk about fatigue? Try having terminal cancer like me. Liver, lungs and bone cancer. Some days I'm okay. Not normal, but okay. Other days I can't hardly make it to the bathroom in time. Back in late January, 3 doctors gave me 6 to 12 months to live. I've done chemo and I would never wish that on anyone. Cancer spread during chemo. Now I just live day to day. Enjoy the good days and deal with the bad. I smoke weed for depression and that helps alot. I wish you the very best of luck dealing with or beating limes disease. Try to stay positive. For me, that is the hardest part. Not to end it with the pull of a trigger.
@@balljar7546 so sorry your dealing with any of this! Sending many thoughts and prayers your way! You're a true warrior for battling on like you have. A lady I see in one of the stores i work in on my sales route literally just threw the towel in and said she's done fighting and just going to spend the time she had left with her family. Mad me so sad to hear because she's an amazing person. But I'm not in her shoes so I can't even begin to understand her thought process with that.
Dan the man, I Love you dude. I have been wanting to comment since I first heard you say that you were searching for a diagnosis. Consider going to a couple hypnosis sessions, I never comment on videos but I have quite a lot of experience with the mind healing the body and I know you will be surprised with the results. Keep up the great videos, I dig your style on a board and your commitment to skating.
You’re smart and paying good attention to your body bro. Glad to know that. My old man was fit and healthy or seemed to be and keeled over at 42. I think you’re doing great, taking this seriously. You already quit smoking and are very active. Get your diet and hydration dialed as much as you can and you’ll do yourself a huge service. Looking forward to you feeling better and watching you skate for many many years to come.
Dan, I’ve been watching your stuff for about 2 years. I’m 50, on and off skating since 34-36 bimonthly, skated like a mofo before that since before bonite, early 1984. What I encountered was lack of nutrients. You got this. Eat what your mother fed you. Real rad food from scratch.
You need to have a look at Welsh 🏴 singer - songwriter "Ren" he has it also and had to travel to Canada for treatment. And for years didnt know he had it but described all the Psychosis and other symptoms you described,he's wrote and sang some hard hitting songs about his struggles with it,worth checking out Dan.Get well soon bud.🙏
Sorry to hear what you have gone through. My wife suffers from lymes disease and has done for over 10 years. She got well and went back to work but suffered a huge set back when covid broke out. She's on the mend slowly, but only due to her preservence and relentless researching for alternative medicines and protocols. Feel free to get in touch if you wanna chat with her. It's a tough road but stay strong and you will get through it
I know this is a bad news bears video, but i wish you the best. I'll send as many positive thought your way as i can. You're a good dude, and you do a lot for the sport and the culture.
Holy grail man, do you know the story of this singer dude Ren? This did him rally bad too but he thankfully got the diagnosis too! You tha man, bro! Lots of love...
Sorry to hear this mate, I hope any treatment forthcoming helps you. There is a UK music artist called Ren, who has limes disease and has been suffering, for a long time, but it has been a gift and a curse for him, definitely worth checking him out and maybe even reaching out to him, as he has been on a very long journey figuring things out. He is really down with you tubers and a super kind person...I know he can help you!

Hope you get better Dan 🙏🏻 have faith keep a positive mindset
Thank you for updating us with your health. I hope it's the better of the situation. I'm pulling for you!
So sorry to hear!!
I’ve got friends with lymes- I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy!
I’m crossing all my fingers and toes for you dude ❤
Damn sorry to hear man, I hope you recover well! 🙏
Really sorry to hear about your diagnosis Dan. Hope everything works out for you. We're all cheering for you man🤙🏻💪🏻🛹
Really sorry to hear this Dan. Been a fan of your videos and skating for years. I know of two people that have had Lymes, one recovered and the other was wiped out big time, messed their school time up etc. I hope you get the support and info you need. Stay healthy and sending good vibes 👊
i love you dan, i hope everything turns out ok :( your videos are a really big part of my life! im here every damn day!
Bro thinks hes to cool for lemon disease and go's straight to Lyme what a show off
I feel for you....we're here to support you Dan!!! Keep the good spirit it's all gonna be ok soon ,stay positive!!
Shi man sorry to hear that, Hope you are one of the good cases, fingers crossed. Stay positive.
He was back East a few months ago.
Lyme disease is all over out here.
Not taking the full course of antibiotics is not advisable.
You never get rid of Lyme, it only goes into remission.
you opening up will help others fo shure!!!❤take care we need you in full shape and energy🤗
Deer ticks are almost impossible to see, they're so small.
Literally the size of a printed period in a book.
I’m so sorry bro. I wish you the best. Stay strong. You might beat this in a way no one else has yet.
Much love Daniel!
Listen to your body, stay healthy and we will see you in the next vid!
oh no 😧 I'm so sorry, brother. Do what you can and keep calm. it's awesome what you do and best of wishes on future content. Dan will still crush it! 💪🙏❤
when you find yourself dying, but you survive everytime. the way through is to embrace those feelings. let them in. you might find something cool within.
dont think.... feeeeeeeel
The technique that helped me was imagining the attack as a wave. And you are a surfer and you need to jump on it and surf it! Let it go, like on a rollercoaster. It works! And it gets easier over time
This mindset helped me through panic attacks tbh
Hope the best for you bud. Good to see you in good spirits. Keep that attitude and you will handle this the best you can
ur my hero bro! ur strength is amazing!! g shit! god bless and sending you healing vibes!!!
Feel like youre everyones best mate hope youre able to get through it with good spirits we love ya mate 🇦🇺👌
sorry to hear man... tough news. I hope you recover quickly and fully dude
Not to end it with the pull of a trigger.
hope your good dude but its not a competition
❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@balljar7546 so sorry your dealing with any of this! Sending many thoughts and prayers your way! You're a true warrior for battling on like you have. A lady I see in one of the stores i work in on my sales route literally just threw the towel in and said she's done fighting and just going to spend the time she had left with her family. Mad me so sad to hear because she's an amazing person. But I'm not in her shoes so I can't even begin to understand her thought process with that.
I wish you peace, brother.
Ummmmmm.................🫤
Dan, you are awesome! Keep charging forward!
get well soon Dan take your health into your hands and do not give up
damn brother... Take it easy, we all love you. Keep pushing ❤️
Damn dude, hoping for the best as far as recovery. At least it's not a mystery anymore, but it sucks that there aren't really treatment options.
Good luck on your condition my guy, all hopes an wishes to you.
Wishing you a favourable outcome man. Big love
Good luck dude. I hope it works out as well as possible.
I feel ya. I have a blood cancer and a lot of the same issues.
Praying for a miracle of healing ! Keep your head up ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Sorry to hear Dan, Use the positive energy around you with all the great skaters.
It's a tough road but stay strong and you will get through it
Sorry to hear the news, hoping it was caught early. Take care.👊🏼
Big up, Dan. Lymes is a really challenging one. I'd been thinking pituitary issue from what you were listing. Stay strong man.
Take this as a reason to become one of those crazy diet and health nuts.
He is really down with you tubers and a super kind person...I know he can help you!
hope ya feel better, Dan!💪🏾
Low in iron
- I was way off. Sorry to hear that man keep positive and I hope you heal up
stay positive, listen to your body, and love your life regardless. your'e an inspiration to many.
